This is without a doubt, one of the toughest games in history. The developers obviously made the game this hard on purpose. Although I disagree with the unnecessary level of difficulty, I will agree that the game is addictive and fun once you learn that the jump kick is your best friend, despite the fact that it takes longer to kill enemies with it.

And oh yea, the music is sweet. Love that NES.

If people just spent more than 5 minutes with this game, they'd learn the tricks. Forget jumpkicking, forget the jump spinkick, just walk around and use the basic kicks. As long as you're not on the same horizontal plane as 2 enemies, you win...

No joke. I literally played the game for 10 minutes. and returned it back to the video store within 30 and told them the game wouldn't work on my NES...... LOL

I remember that you only had one life, or the game was otherwise ludicrously difficult.

yea it only takes 10 minutes to realize how bad this game is LOL. everything feels so stiff about the controls. plus they stripped u of so many useful moves, like the fact u could rise from the floor with an uppercut or flying knee in DD2. so now the enemies could just wait for u to get up and continue beating the shit outta u. having 1 life didnt help either, especially with the accursed pit jumping sections these DD games seem to all have. DD3 for gameboy is wack too, worse than this 1 LOL.

its really fun with 2 players.....but sadly they discontinued the double dragon series after double dragon 4 or super double dragon for super nes which was also good....double dragon 5 was really not good.....not fun without adventure mode

this game ruined my life. I was always considered a double dragon master...then this game came out. For some reason the fluid feel of the second and first game was gone. You literally had to do things in a certain way and that punch and kick beat em up feel, was gone. It is legendary non the less. But double dragon 2 revenge will never be beat.

My brothers and I used beat the heck out of the game. Though parts you I found you died was from the holes usually not the fighting itself, as in DD 1, the games engine wasnt built for platforming so jumps megaman and mario could do in their sleep you fumbled regularly heh.

This was actually the best Double Dragon ever (in response to the people claiming it sucked): Improved graphics, gameplay, storyline, and also difficulty, made it the mangum opus of the series. Kudos for bringing back the music of this masterpiece and thus the memories.

You're so right, man. DD3 has so many improved things from it's prequals: the things you mentioned, but also great music, awesome moves, no rediculous jumping scenes (the jumping scenes in this game are in 2D area's, making it clear) and more playable characters.

They also spent a lot of time and effort on the enemy AI. People always talk about the difficulty, but it's not nearly as bad when you know a little how it works.
