They look similar... But they're far from the same.

The set is called City Commander because they don't own the trademark of "Ultra Magnus". Hasbro/Takara could sue them if they did.

did you see where the licence plate is supposed to go? well it flips up so that the licence plate is hidden and the back white parts flip down to show an opening for the bottom the BFG is in the way but bumblebee can fit in the bottom

I like it, I really do.

But... If Nemesis Prime being a direct repaint of Prime wasn't bad enough we now get a repaint of Magnus that goes into Nemesis Prime. Which I guess is kind of Ironic to me.

I've always loved the color scheme of RiD Scourge/Nemesis Prime so of course the armor set looks nice, but I don't want two Ultra Magnuses walking around.

Question: Would you recommend this only for collectors who love Ultra Magnus, or also for folks who intend on transforming the whole set say, 2 times per game session, 3-4 game sessions per week?

In other words, given the price tag, is the City Commander Set able to stand up to the rigors of (careful) use during a homebrew RPG game? Or is it best left as a display piece? Because if something breaks or paint chips I tend to cry inside, but I do love Ultra Magnus.

I do think it'll hold out to frequent transformation. The only real "iffy" point is the feet armor. It does get easier to transform as you do it, but it still has that moment of "You're not going to break are you?"

I think it would stand up though. The plastic feels good and the paint seems durable.

Great review. In my opinion, the gun should've either been a jet pack (but that wouldn't have been Ultra Magnus) or a giant, extended arm, with movable fingers/claws (but that wouldn't have been Ultra Magnus). The rocket launcher version of the gun looked cool. It has to be a way to get that arm to be a bit stronger, but I wouldn't want to tamper with him.

Only thing I can think of is to take the arm completely apart and add some nail polish/ glue to the connecting parts. Possibly after it dried and the arm was reassembled it might cause enough friction to keep the arm more stable.

But really, I doubt I'll pose it with the BFG, so I'm not worried about it.

Just keep trying, man. I lost about five auctions then found the Magnus/Skywarp two pack for cheap. Still sealed.

You'll find him eventually, or at least make due with Prime. You can barely tell he's in there.

Since it might be harder to get Magnus and the armor, try going for the Shadow Commander Armor. Finding a Magnus on eBay is hard enough as it is, but finding the armor to go along with him is going to be very difficult.

Basically do whatever you want. If you want to cover the transformation, then do so. You can talk about the alternate modes, what you like or dislike about it, etc.

Just a random thought- I really don't know of any Transmetals outside the ones from the Beast Wars cast besides Transmetal Terrosaur, Transmetal Rhinox, and Transmetal Airrazor. Most of the characters/figures outside the cast are Transmetal 2's or basics. By the way, could you review Transmetal Terrosaur please?
