@DharoksPimp Have to disagree. The emotion the music seems to convey -- to me, at least -- doesn't match that idea. It seems more like a song about realizing that today is a great day just because you're alive. Billy Corgan has never been subtle when it comes to lyrics about life sucking.

@portlyculver No, he's being subtle and sarcastic in this one. He wrote this on a day when he was feeling depressed and contemplating suicide. Some of the lyrics refer to self harm as well. But he purposely was ironic about it, making it sound happy.

@lightinthedusk I know the story behind the song. The point that I think people often miss is that Billy Corgan isn't dead. Everyone hurts themselves from time to time, whether physically, or not. Everyone considers suicide, too, but at some point, most of us realize that there is still something left to live for, and pull back before we go all the way. What I think this song is about is choosing to persevere, even if you have to do so bitterly. "Pink ribbon scars" isn't too subtle, anyway.

It wasn't subtle to me either, but to some people it is. Not everyone gets what he is talking about when he says that phrase. Anyway, the song as a whole is subtle in that the tune is happy, and he's saying 'today is the greatest day'. A lot of people have said they thought it was supposed to be a happy song...so the subtlety (or sarcasm, irony etc) seemed to have worked in his favour. If he was to be totally UNsubtle, he could made an angry tune and sang 'today is the worst day' lol!
