In this case the abrupt and unexplained jumps in 1 star ratings of youtube video's is being attributed to a bot, a program which was designed to give specific video's a 1 star rating in an effort to decrease their popularity.

With time and a little intelligence you can probably find a free votebot out there and customize it for your nefarious deeds. With intelligence you can make your own. Meanwhile, take heart, it grows increasingly harder to make these bots as the captcha and verification technologies evolve. Hmm... I guess it provides hope for people in hard times, and I don't think it matters that it's false hope, just so long as it keeps you happy until something good happens to you.
Oh, and individual churches sometimes provide humanitarian support under the banner of religion, but I guess that's just people being nice, not a direct effect of religion itself.
And finally, a reason for people to be at least somewhat decent in life: Heaven. Kinda sucks that they need a reason to be nice, but hey.

That is actually a common misconception. "Bot" is a term applied to any and all programs designed to preform an automated task. In this case the abrupt and unexplained jumps in 1 star ratings of youtube video's is being attributed to a bot, a program which was designed to give specific video's a 1 star rating in an effort to decrease their popularity.
