i know soldiers who have come back from Afghanistan, PERSONALLY, who now go through every day of the week eating pills by the handful to make it through the day. not from physical pain, but from emotional hell. most people who come back from war have emotional trauma for the rest of their life. i cant blame these people for being scared and maybe wanting to walk away from it all into the darkness, and YES, I spent 11 years active duty US Army. I know what a soldier is

Both are right, both are somehow wrong. The kid got scared (like much of them), and instead of showing a way to deal with the fear, they will be treated like criminals. LTC Peters asked Thom how many soldiers did he know? At least one; ME! I have written to Thom from time to time on various topics and a couple of times Thom gave a short reply. I was in the Army from 1989 - 1996, I was in Desert Storm, I didn't agree with it, I knew it was about oil, I saw how our troops talked about and treated Arab civilians and it was criminal, and if I had opened my mouth about it I would have been a "friendly fire" casualty.
