  • Don't they have a Billion dollars from charitable donations?? They should have whole new neighborhoods built leave that ugly place behind start NEW!

  • very informative

  • faultlines bullshit, most high wrath does this devistation...

  • Once you can not provide for yourself; if I went to the, to the store I brought you whatever I like. What can you do for haiti?

  • haiti doesnt need an earthquake to be destroyed haitians can do it just fine on thier own.

  • Haiti used to be a prosperous country. Papa Doc destroyed it.

  • Ive said it for years and years but noone is shocked but the haiti is awed by the power of the earth which is didnt care about. it sounds mean to say it is there own fault but life is all balances, like wheels, and it is there fault but they need the spirit to get them through it all

  • What people dont understand is that Haitians are Black Africans to...Why African Americans think Haitians,Jaimaicans, etc are not as African as the One from America....ALL BLACKS NEED TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER.

  • You know people ask for donations and then the people of haiti dont get it. They still have shit its pathetic I donate and donate to make a change. And it seems like it still looks like what it did before the quake happened. And its been almost a year and nothing? the government lies pure bullshitters. Its like we gotta go other there ourselves to make a change in the haitian lives. Which 1 will one of these days its my goal.

  • 3 dollars a day is taking the piss... somebody is getting rich but its not the working-class

  • LORD JESUS IS KING OF ALL WORLD!

  • Get the US and UN out of Haiti.and stop making decisions about Haiti with out Haitians being there and saying its OK.!!!

  • The video states that Haiti imports almost everything. That is true. But the Haitian people are not lazy. Haiti has the potential to grow its own food (e.g., rice, mangos, coffee, sugar). The problem is that multi-nationals lowered their tariffs and flooded the Haitian market with their goods. In effect, the Haitians growers could not compete and drove them out of business. What needs to be done is a regulation of those tariffs to allow Haiti to compete so that jobs can be created.

  • @GmanZouk the only way to explain how Haiti's trade regulations could be so weak is that it is done intentionally. I think government officials are being paid off to allow importers to dump the excess produce out there. The world has lots of greedy and "shortsighted" people.

  • @daniells71 I would not be surprised. But what really happened after Baby Doc fell post 1986, contracts were signed to allow produce (e.g., rice) to come in to the country much cheaper than us. In effect it killed our agriculture and put the farmers out of business. Then, most of the farmers went to Port-au-Prince to find work. This situation overcrowded PAP resulting in 300,000 deaths from the earthquake. Our government can reverse the agricultural policies but they do not want to.

  • 1000 trucks are needed to clean up Haiti. Out of billions of dollars that were received thanks to the world's generosity only 100 million was actually disbursed. If more money would be disbursed for specific projects 1000 trucks can be purchased for the cleanup. There are 8 million unemployed people in Haiti. They can be given work to cleanup the rubbles. Six months after the earthquake it is incredible to see millions of unemployed with crossed harms. We need the funds to be disbursed!

  • Great journalism. I've heard American interests have been crafting Haiti to become another second or third-world production nation like Malaysia, Taiwan or other 'silicon valley' places. I think we need to take on board what Ostenio Lious Jean [forgive me if my spellings off :)] had to say, Haiti is fertile and recieves half a year of rain - let it offer the world (and its people) what it has to offer agriculturally. US+ industries still operate with agriculture, lol, "bio..." this "bio" that

  • so sad -breaks my heart ... there is hope in their eyes. I pray for them-my kids and I do - we sponsor a child in haiti - Her name is Loudwidge .. I hope to meet her one day ..

  • Agriculture Agriculture Agriculture Agriculture Agriculture

  • They soldiers are not needed!!.

  • support should go to the peasant organization for permaculture training and planting that will have them sustainable in 2-3years. alongside this annual crops could be planted that produce rapidly. a warm country like haiti has all it requires, except maybe enough seed stock?[non-gmo]

  • unfortunately the us government doesn't want them to prosper

  • @ANDjjela The U.S. and other White Christian nations have done all the help over there. Where was all the North & South Black African leaders to help???? There sorry asses did not spend a penny to help & North Black African leaders starve their own people to death because of greed. It's Black leaders who do not want them to prosper dumb ass.

  • "Men make their own history," wrote Karl Marx. "But they do not make it just as they please; they do not make it under circumstances chosen by themselves, but under given circumstances directly encountered and inherited from the past." In this clip. a farmer calls out, "Decentralize the government's power TO the countryside!"

  • why the hell doesn't france or haiti's neighbors do a greater part in the rebuilding. its always america that pays for all the shit that happens in the world.

  • @0neofthem Sarkozy did give a million for the rebuilding of Haiti, and there are many french associations that also help for the rebuilding and the care of the population. Concerning the neighbors of Haiti, there is a racism between the domenicans and haitians, and the latinos countries.. Thanks to the Americans and other countries who gathered to help Haiti,Haitians are very grateful of it.

  • @0neofthem its bc the US wont let other countries get involved in the rebuilding bc they want to control haiti's resources. what 99% of americans dont know is that their is oil and other mineral resources in Haiti. I know this bc im haitian n ive seen and taken pics of these foreign mining companies in Haiti. Clinton n Bush DESTROYED haiti, overthrowing the former pres 2x amongst a whole bunch of other things

  • rebuilding haiti could be BIG business FOR OUTSIDERS! HAhahahaha jajajajajajaja

  • do we the u.s.a. get help when we are suffering as well?does the united states of america suffer while our goverment helps other countries?

  • do we the u.s.a. get help when we are suffering as well?does the united states of america suffer while our goverment helps other countries?

  • I don't the rebuilding of Haiti will have any value. The facts as I understand them the country 9 million people. Port O Prince 1.5 million and thats where all the damage was 200,000 dead and half the homes ruined.

The Haitians must lead there rebuilding efforts otherwise the outcome will be worthless. the aid agencies infantilize the people give them abilities to get small loans empower them to rebuild there country.

  • The so-called Haitian are the Israelites from the tribe of LEVI according to Deuteronomy 28:15-68. Now its time to repent as a Israelites and keep the Laws of Mosthigh God.

  • I loved that fact that the former prime minister stated" we are not going to accept another coup d eta!

There is a reason he said this, we all know, well most ppl know that the US overthrew Aristide in 2004, a democratic elected leader. the lavalas party was the strongest political party in Haiti. Dont you think its interesting that the lavalas have not be allowed to participate in any elections since aristide was overthrown?

  • The truth is starting to unravel and its time the truth be told. The US dont care about rebuilding haiti, they just want to turn it into a sweat shop factory bc to them that is our advantage to the world. Aristide was and is the only leader that truly cared about Haitians and refused to be a puppet of the US. Aristide wanting to raise the minimum wages, build hospitals, roads and invest in education were the crimes he committed.

  • @kpierre2003 No one wants Aristide back ! A priest who became a president, especially a bad president...no way.

  • @Didem92 my question to you is are you haitian? what makes you think that no one wants aristide back? bc if what you see on the news??? he was so baddd that ppl were having demonstrations a couple of weeks ago asking for his return. As a haitian, I know the TRUTH n im not going to let some outsider tell me otherwise. the US overthrew aristide both times and destroyed haiti even before the earthquake

  • @kpierre2003 Yes,I was born in Port-au-prince,and lived there during 9 years. A part of my family is haitian, and some of my members live there.Personally we don't want Aristide back..the only haitians who ask for him is " le sous peuple " ,pas guin moune ki mande pou li.

  • @Didem92 well ur PART haitian family doesnt speak for the true full blooded haitians. I would be willing to bet that ur family arent even originial descendants from haiti. Of course ur members dont want aristide to come back so your opinion is NON GRATA to me. even as i come from jacmel, those "le sous peuple" as your call them are still MON PEUPLE. put aristide or the lavalas party in the elections tommorrow and see who wins so save ur comments

  • @kpierre2003 As you want, you are free to have your opinion. But brush your mouth before you talk about people's family, don't "bet" on anything about this, you don't know anything about me. Second of all, I'll say it again, we don't want Aristide back, except those like you for x reasons..why Aristide back ? Dis-moi..

  • I believe the people when they describe the greedy factory owner standing over them, forcing them to stay. The factory site that few escaped from reminds me od the Triangle shirt factory fire before the women's movement. :(

And balls to your stupid security! Those people are hungry! I can just see some twat sitting in a chair "welll, we have to keep things orderlyyyy. *drawls*'

omfg, sometimes I love being american, but sometimes it's downright embarrassing.

  • We are not about to accept a coup de eta`!

  • Haven't you guys heard ?

    Haitian civilians always fight back!

  • US corporate imperialism is still controlling Haiti. If their government won't allow this forced slave labor then the US will take down the Haitian government.

  • the haitians or the government , i hate how people love saying "the" as in a group of people when clearly everyone know the government is to blame

  • I was naive enough to think an Obama-gov U.S foreign policy with respect to Ayiti would be different. Just a glimmer of HOPE I had. So far so wrong

  • Well said Mediaboxful!!

  • From - The Art of War

    22. If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.

    23. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them.

    24. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected

How many Coup Détat had we suffered with the aid of foreigners? .

  • I thought about how Haiti got to the point where it is. Its like we were in war for century and we finally got a big blow. Think about-:

    Water supply- low

Food supply low-Farmers paid not to produce

    Education-only for the elite

    Government- Non existence

Ngo- Foreigners make decision on people they dont know, culture they dont understand.

  • @gatorneck305 So with that thinking China should run the US?

  • This video forgot to mention the education problem in Haiti. Back in the 60's and 70's, Haiti was a rich country because the people were dictate what to do. It probably wasn't the best way but it worked. When the U.S. established democracy, things went downhill because the people are not educated and they only do as they please. Of course with no justice system and a very corrupted government, there was no way out. Rebuilding Haiti means building the people, educate them.

  • Great Job!!! Great comments also!! Except for the few comments from users that are cursing at each other! Now is a time to be positive!!

  • Alan Villiard his a liar his body language said the opposite of what his saying... the prime minister also is a liar... if we don`t get rid of those rats we won`t going nowhere. And NgO`s are rats too most of them cuz they ain`t in haiti to help us they are here most of them to profit from our situation. they ve been in haiti for over 50 years bs ! factories??? tssk another form of slavery we have 27000km2 of beaches we should invest in tourism and agriculture period!

  • very intresting rebuild it like japan all thos epeople on that little island but all complex and stuff.

  • Alan Villiard was lying though his freaking teeth, look at his eyes and the edges of his mouth, makes me sick!

  • I know right.

Hold them in those hot factories to make up the time if they had a blackout during the day, cause they need to meet their quotas no matter what and they work Haitians like machines. Now, the pig had the nerve to insinuate that they like it; Acting like they were being greedy for money and that's why they stay to work longer then he had set them to. These people pissed me off, man.

  • Question for tout les Haitiens-- Why are foreigners always telling what is good for Haiti? Why are they always making decision for Haiti? All the Haitians we need stand up for Haiti!!!

  • Yes, Haitians that left Haiti for a better life need to give back, not just monetary, but time, going to Haiti.

  • Isn't the answer for these questions clear? Our greedy politicians allow it to happen. Don't tell me you forgot that? Ah ma chere

  • At lefonceur26

But we have a voice now, there are more than 4 millionsHaitians diasporas all over the world. Imagine what will happen if we all come together for a better Haiti. Not for our own selfish reason, but for our brothers and sisters who are suffering in Haiti. I do not think any foreigner can love Haiti more than Haiti's own children. We cannot continue to just leave Haiti for the foreigners to dictate its future.

  • @manouchecamf you dumb cockroaches u should be thankful for all the aid you are getting and stop being so ignorant

  • @manouchecamf That's because us Haitians obviously haven't made the best choices ourselves since our country is in the situation that it's in. If we knew what was good for us we would've not elected some presidents in the past, and we would've conducted business in general differently. Because of our short sightedness of the past, we now don't even have the resources to help ourselves and 90% of the population would probably die of starvation if it wasn't for external aid.

  • So, you think that given the level of corruption in our country, the international community is just gonna give us billions of dollars and let us decide what to do with it? Of course not. So given a choice between their aid, and their decisions, as opposed to no aid and starvation, I think the choice is clear. And maybe if we would've been a bit more responsible in the past, we wouldn't be in this situation now.

  • @manouchecamf

'cause you haitians are always crying about haiti being shitty, bad, and poor.

And because your ...'leaders' have nothing better to do than steal all the money and give a rat's ass about the haitian people.

  • @manouchecamf So you do not want food, money or material support? Thats fine with me. I will call my congressman on monday and tell him Haiti doesn't need support or help. thanks for telling me:-)

  • @manouchecamf m dako ave w ke fok nou stand up but nan eta gouvenman an ye la m pa kwe li telman posib non

  • @manouchecamf I agree with your comment but my question is HOW? How do we Haitians stand up for Haiti?

  • mezanmi nou gen anpil travay devan nou!

  • Both Bushes and Clinton have destroyed that country completely even before the earthquake.

District 9 comes to mind, they are aliens on their own land ...

  • Great work, smart to take a small lens on this very big story...

  • 12:17 to 13:17 pretty weird. what allain villard said compare to what the workers had to say. Allain seems a big liar.

  • As they say; TEACH A MAN TO FISH.

If the Haitians can farm and get past their government, they will make it-- much better, too!

    Great report!

I hope this happens for all of these survivors.

  • Teaching a man to fish (or farm) isn't enough when free trade floods the economy with cheap foreign goods, making it impossible to sell the products of their labour. That's why so many people work in the apparel industry: they've been displaced from their rural economy. It's not their own government Haitian's need to overcome: it's "ours", in the United States and Canada. Listen again to Patrick Elie in this interview....

  • I agree, in toto, with you. We need to help, is what I meant, by allowing Haitians to do what will be best for them. I believe WE need to not allow for international business-men to BUY Haiti (and Haitians, themselves), but to either donate monies and the tools these people need, and/or loan to Haitians (interest-free loans, in particular).

One of Haiti's biggest problems came with our paying their govt to NOT grow rice! They need food; they need the ability to grow that food, though!

  • Brilliant Anne, we're totally on the same page. I love Avi's video on the politics of rice: it does such a good job of capturing this ongoing story. Keep sharing!

  • You know, there is a program that loans monies to those in need (kiva?), and I would love to see it implemented in Haiti. A program such as this could do a lot of good, while keeping the piggies (big biz) at bay; allowing those of us of fairly-limited means to actually help these people to become self-sufficient.

In my opinion, keeping big biz OUT OF Haiti would be most prudent, especially NOW! (Walmarts of the world, particularly). Big biz has damaged all of us recently; US econ, too!

  • btw; it's our govt (that was Clinton., sadly), as well as their govt, that is the problem.

  • Restoration and reconstruction of a desolated country will take decades. Even to clear the rubbles will take years. Why not the international community help them to build new quick-built settlements and gradually re-build the cities?

  • it's the foreigners who have been crippling the country. preval should resign. he drinks too much.he clearly doesn't care about the people, and foreigners are pimping the country for bigger profits. haitians are smart and hard workers. if the gov't really cares, the country will grow

  • I'm so sick and tired of uneducated asshole making stupid comments about Haitian politics!!! You don't know shit so shut the fuck up!!!!

  • Kolanget manmanw....Djolbokye!

Sa ou ka fe pou Ayiti? Motherfucker!!!

  • I rest my case; you are a true kokorat, wannabe, uneducated, pretentious bitch that probably get most of your education by watching FOX news and BET!!!!!

Do yourself a favor, and leave discussion about Haitis social, political, and economic current state to those who at LEASTE can read past the 4th grade level!!!

    :-)

  • most of these people are not, ,"city folk", and wold be better-off were they able to farm again, and for their goods to somehow be able to compete on the world market.

Sadly, this is only one country's people that the world has taken serious advantage of... it has not helped the USA, nor has it helped HAITI!

  • Wow, when they talking about factory conditions, it seems like they were reading from Das Kapital.

  • Great work Avi!

  • Альжазира мля, зачем ты всё время каменты запрещаешь.

  • hmm, I like that commenting has been allowed on this video, usually it's disabled. Nice to see Avi Lewis back again; I was worried the series had come to an end or been cancelled when it wasn't on last week. Keep up the good work Avi and AJE.

  • My utmost empathy goes out to the people of Haiti. May life bless them. I can't help but notice that if a tragedy of this scale happened in the United States, the outpouring of genuine aid would be far greater and armored vehicles with machine guns wouldn't be roaming the streets. I hope Haiti takes its own future into its own hands. A silver lining to this tragedy seems to be a new and better Haiti. Haitians: this is your opportunity Make of it the best you can..

  • i hate to point out the awful circumstances of Hurricane Katrina - but the military presence and delay of aid to people in New Orleans was unfortunately similar.

I sincerely hope that the people of Haiti can show the rest of the world what solidarity can accomplish in the face of mounting international economic pressures to rebuild in a manner which will add more insult to injury.

  • I hope not!

  • haiti will be under america's control soon.. there will be not restructuring just occupation.
