  • Man....THAT's the way an axe is supposed to sound when it feeds back, dammit!!! Any other way is just a tease. What could be sweeter than a fretted slab of quartersawn maple, a whammy bar and a hot tube amp set to Broil at 450 for two hours? Give me life, give me peace on Earth. Mercy!

  • sounds fucking awesome as hell

  • I like when it goes buzz buzz buzz. Sounds amazing.

  • What was the point of this video?

  • Man - get your guitar set up properly - your fret buzz ruins the whole demo.

  • sounds crapy.....but thanks for showing xD

  • HI, I am in the UK and am wanting a silverface deluxe reverb or Silverface Princeton reverb, deluxe reverb being my 1st choich, well I kind of want a deluxe reverb seen as the PR is no cheaper, and the DR has more to it, some say the PR has a better tremolo, anyway can U get me a silverface DR or PR, like I said DR 1st choice, if so please contact me asap at thementor@fsmail.net thanks guys.

  • Can you still hear??????

  • Wow - That was awesome!

  • amen to that.

  • This is why music nowadays suck...that amp had to be bloody loud but it sounded amazing and just squealed so musically....but now you get told by the PA guys to keep the amps at like 2 , and if you say "but my amp won't sing at that volume" they throw up some power soaks that just make it sound like ass....amps are supposed to be LOUD, rock music is supposed to be LOUD....hendrix didnt play with a Line 6 POD and monitors, he played with 3 or 4 full stacks on stage, when one died, go to the next.

  • @sundayuneedlove I agree with your point in principle but, there are some pretty good attenuators out there these days. I have a Weber and it works great. Only way I can get that sweet power tube overdrive from my JCM 2000 100 watt at home without having the cops knocking on my door. The only elements you are missing are the speaker distortion, which I am not huge on anyways, and the physical movement of air. I agree there is nothing like a tube amp cranked but, it isn't realistic sometimes

  • There is one of these for sale in the city i am moving to, i am wondering if i should trade my '83 marshall jcm 800 for it. I don't dig 80's tone, i want to go for a 70's psychedelic / sludge/ stoner metal tone, can i achieve that with this amp and a boost/fuzz etc. more so than the jcm?

  • @MorbidHumanity666 understand you're going to have to have this amp loud enough to peel the paint off the wall to get it to sound like this. JCM 800 will break up a lot earlier.

  • At about volume level 8-10 those things turn into a fucking feedback machine.

  • @rodbuoy fuck that those things crunched like a bastard

  • I used to own one of these amps in the 70's.

    Fender made these in 1973.

Have you tried pulling out the Master Volume ?

It gives the amp a slight more boost.

  • the guitar seemed kind of lacking

  • great captions too lol

  • haha that thing was squealing! killer fbk!

  • that does sound like ass

  • got one today just like this

  • That sounded dreadful, but it all the right ways. :P

  • you should mic that amp and do it again. it'ld sound so much better than the camera mic.

  • Haha, "please leave me alone, ive been sleeping for 20 years" hahahaha

  • WOW that thing roars with the X2N!!

  • just short out a rca footswitch and stick that sucka in the vibrato footpedal plug. my reverb tank is shot, but i was surprised how much i could remedy while waiting for new tubes. also what year is this, looks just like my '76! nice chops too.

  • GOSH!! I LOVE how fender amps scream with such Grunge

  • sounds like it needs a nice set of TAD tubes

  • TU VA LA CHIER TA MERDe

  • @dawebdisa yawn.....

  • What is a microphone verb tube? Is that like a big tube with a speaker on one end and a mic on the other?

  • thanks for the good demo. I recently acquired a 1973 twin, and pondering to restore it, I'm sold Bro !!!!!!!

  • This is odd fenders back then arent ment for drive how did you get a an old fender to distort

  • that x2n loaded JEM nuked that twin from orbit. and did it ever sound good. question of the day which I'm sure has been asked many times before would be: how's your hearing after that? LOL

  • awesome demo bro, just freaking exciting, also i just got it so i am like at the edge of mi sitt watching how you fucking bastard demos it...(: AWESOMEE!

  • You're bloody hilarious!

You're doing what we all really want to do!

    What legendary demos these are!!

Can you make something blow up!??

  • yyyyyyes!

this is my second fav, only to the bassman demo you guys did.

thatnks for demo-ing these great amps and actually pushing them to see what they will do!

  • a lot of frettbuzz from that guitar

  • they are rated at 85 watts. the x2n is a horrible pickup. you shouldn't be demoing anything with it. but learn to play first

  • Tried this once with a BF reissue twin, still waiting for my hearing to come back - that was in about 1988

  • sometimes my wife makes a similar buzzing sound. Try lifting the ground. or go shopping?

  • FILTER CAPS homie! Replace those filter caps!

  • jesus thats crazy!

  • if anyone can help, ive got a really old fender halfstack and it makes a really annoying buzzing sound i usually just mess with it till it goes away but some times it comes back if i dont know what causes it but if anyone can help please do!

  • @LTD746 Bad Filter capacitors.

  • dont mean to be a complete nubcake. but idk what a filter capacitor is xD aha.

i got a multi effect pedal and it fixed all the weird sounds. that and its been in a garage for years. hadnt been touched. im sure that wasnt good for it. but thanks anyway.

&&& boss me 70 multi effect.

just amazing. kinda confusing at first but i have sooo much fun with it.

  • @LTD746

These are the big high voltage rated capacitors which filter the Valves +ve supply rail. These are electrolytic and the capacitors can dry out and cause nasty thinness of sound and peculiar overtones. If an amp has been lying for some time unused, it is common for this to happen, especially after 20 yrs or so!

get a pro to do a cap job. Don't have a go yrself as the caps can store a whopping charge. BZZZZZZZZZ!

  • So it is true, a twin reverb split atoms.

  • sounds like ted nugent in bits, around 2:56 especially

  • my lead guitarists twin will actually rip ur face off on full volume on the 100 watt setting. its simply a beast

  • Excellent test..!!

Push those tubes to the MAX..!!

I love my 77 twin reverb..! (135 watts)

Try different tube sets to get that sweeeeeet tone.

    and of course... different guitars

  • Sounds awful to my 30+ years of playing live. It is very brittle and harsh sounding. I had to use one of these about 27 years ago when my Marshall JCM 800 was in the shop and it was longest 2 gigs of my life trying to get a good warm rock tone out of a silver face Twin. They can be made to sound good with some mods but are terrible stock.

  • .I just want the viewer to be aware that Fender drastically changed their circuitry in the "silverface" era creating a tone some may find brittleor harsh compared to blackface and tweed Fender tube amps. This is documented in detail in Tom Wheeler's book "The Soul of Tone" Just be careful with the idea that "it's old and has tubes so it must be good." Fender (and Gibson) made bad stuff years ago and they make some great stuff now. So before you buy, LISTEN AND COMPARE.

  • HOLY FUCK! i love loud amps and am the owner of a '68 Sunn 1x 15 cab and even to me the is fucking way loud as shit. I actually just put a down payment on a '73 silverface with two celestion G12-65's in it............................................after seeing this even im going to be afraid to the turn master vol past five

  • Nice amp

  • does any one use the "normal" channel on fenders?

  • only the one with the vibrato :D

  • I do. 1966 Fender Tremolux. Sometimes I use an A/B Box and run an overdrive/Distortion/FX on one side. My Grandfather purchased this amp new and used the Normal channel for the rhythm guitar in the band (His Wife) and the Vibrato Channel for his Lead Guitar. He ran it this way for 20 years in a working country band that played 3 nights a week until finally in 1988 He bought a 1966 Pro Reverb. I now have both amps. Lucky Me!

  • @mushroomscouser Yes, I used to have a 70s, 100watt Twin, no master vol, someone put a pair of Altecs in, that amp would NOT distort. So loud I had to remove 2 of the 4 power tubes and make it a 50watt. I find on old amps, the normal channel hasn't been used as much, usually sounds better, to me. I use delay over reverb(live anyways) and prefer having a tremelo pedal to having it built in the amp.

  • Holy fuck... how much do you hear today buddy? xD

  • fkn great feedback, great tone when u crank it up. pure greatness

  • my 60s twin cant have it past 3 if im just jammin or i shake the whole dam house haha, love fender twins best amps ever created, loudess fuckin amps,

  • Horrible sounding amp ! If you want a good sounding amp buy a Suhr or a Cornford amp!

  • no shit it wasn't turned on for over 20 years! believe me fender amps are the best out there but like any they need care and attention

  • If it hasn't been turned on for over 20 years i would have changed the filter caps immediately.

  • so would i but the people that made this vid obviously don't give a rat's ass about the condition of the amp this is just an experiment

  • You people are morons. They are trying to push the sound to its peak not produce a beautiful fat solo.

The video is to show that an old Fender amp can take all this and not blow up

  • Halalujah, that just scrached my tube over drive itch. I love to see old amps still able to reach warp 10 without flying apart. Can I get a witness?

  • well everyones a fucking critic. if you dont like the guys vids, dont watch them. i think theyre fine. but thats one thing about guitar players, they all think their better than everyone else, andthose arethe ones thatusually really sux.

  • Anyone have any videos of how this thing sounds really clean (With humbuckers). I've been told they're basically the best clean amp and I'm thinking of getting one for my cleans so I don't have to worry about anything affecting my Marshalls cleans.

  • LOVE IT!!! This is what you do with these Fenders. Crank them up. They can take it, and then some. Back in the day, we just left the volume on 10 and worked it off the guitar, get the tubes nice and hot and these babies SING!!!

  • Do you still have your hearing? haha

  • Luckily, yes. R&R was played much louder than it is now. No drive/master knobs or gain channels. Stomp boxes weren't that good, so, if you wanted overdrive, volume was the only way to get it.

  • I just love your demos. If I ever happen to be in New Hampshire, I'll definitely come your way.

  • lol at 3:37 "ah fuck this shit I am pumped baby oh yeah get this to the MAX" :P :P

  • fret buuuzzzzz!!!! haha, funny video!

  • this guys awesome at the demos.hes not a showoff.and obviously is a very good guitarist. thanks for the demos.

  • oh, he's good? which video did he play well in? i'd like to see it too.

  • Silver face CBS-era Twin, no wonder it blew up!!! ha just kidding. I have the new Pro Tube Twin and therefore my opinion is of no consequence ;) But this video does show one of the (costly) consequences of being a vintage gear hound...

  • Hello I have that amp its around 73 , 74 It used to play fine but not only makes a very loud squeal when I turn it on. All the tubes glow, the reverb channel does not wprk as well. any suggestions as the cause? Thanks

  • tubes can still glow but still not be in 100 percent order. i would have that checked first if not that then i would bet on something that came loose inside

  • possibly a microphonic tube. Look it up on google and follow the instructions.

  • Try changing tubes (rebias of course) and if that's not it, it could be a filter cap.

  • Man, once you get them tubes hot, you've got instant Pete Townshend!

  • I know this guy, live in the same town and trust me, he is a fantastic guitarist and plays in one of the best bands in the area. they play everything from classic rock to funk, r&b, blues etc...

  • what do you mean

  • Hey what are your amp settings at about 3:33 and what volume?

    plz

Hey do the new twin reverbs get that kind of overdrive

  • couldnt tell you for sure. close to the top.

the reissue ones do. i have never had a new one pumped like this though. i would be afraid the thing would burst at the seams and then id have to fix it! im sure a fender would deliver.

  • yeah i just tried mine and its not like the vintage. but im using a strat so the pups might not be as strong

  • if my neighbors are at work, or someone is mowing their yard, I RUn to switch my amp on and let it warm up 5 or 10 min. - crank it, then flip the standby, ohhhhh

nothing like pushing a good tube amp

  • wasn't this the amp steve jones used except he swapped in different speakers? It does have some pistols tone.

  • rw5791, Steve Jones switched to Gauss speakers so I´ve heard (read). Don´t know if he had a 60´s or 70´s twin though. Not all twins were 100W, if I recall correct.

Thanks for testing it this way, I´ve always wonderad how a twin sounds like cranked. This sounds so incredibly cool, I can´t understand how anyone would ask for more gain, or why they would rather go with a Marshall :)

  • Why would these idiots post negativity about this? You people are fucking retards. This dude just wanted to push a vintage amp to it's limit.

    Mission accomplished.

FUCK YOU, HATERS! Bunch of fucking Yngwie wannabes.

  • Yngwie wannabes! too funny. thanks dude.

  • Awesome man, I'd love to own one of these but I'd also love to just crank one like this. I get to crank my Princeton though which is ok.

  • princetons rock with a drummer that gets it. kind of under powered for live stuff for me (because my drummer dosnt get it) but a blast to record with. pump your princeton and post it!..yo mtv...pimp my princeton! thanks.

  • amp sounds good, but your axe sucks lol freakin Ibanez? LMAO

  • Have you ever even played a jem? Oh wait let me guess...you're one of those "If it's not a fender/gibson it has no tone" snobs.

  • I like gretch too.....lol but yeah you got me:)

  • shanejohnson2002 is a player. check him out. hes all major.....will shanejohnson ever go minor?..........lets hope not. he reminds me of robin ford.

  • are you making fun of my guitar?.....thats an insult to my manhood.....too funny. les pauls suck unless you replace the pickups which i see that you have done. good call. is that an epiphone firebird that you are playing or are you with the circus thats in town. big chuckle.....Darthloade rocks....please check out his channel.

  • Thanks man! its a Gibson:) and Dimarzio all the way, screw stock pickups lol (and to set all well, your guitar sounds good. but why not pickup something more vintage to match the amp?)

  • Why don't they make amps like this any more?

  • they still do. fender has reissued many of their "classic" amps. exact same specs. big $s.

  • Nice. Do you know if they are PTP? You are doing everyone a big favor by cranking these amps up, most of us never get to hear these beauties and you push them to ten! Good work man, and forget the haters who are just jealous.

  • yes on PTP. exact same amps. we love to read the negative comments and look at the posters channels. too funny. thanks. rock on young camper!

  • OMG. That thing is ripping. Do you have a distortion pedal?

  • That was really funny! That clip would fit nicely in the Spinal Tap film when he's showing that his amps go to no.11 Honestly though, Who ever you are, you're doing Fender more damage than good!

  • too funny! i just $%%^& my pants. "its a fine line between clever and stupid" big chuckle.

  • Misleading titles? It sounds like a twin melting down to me. I love these videos. If I tried that I would be evicted and in divorce court.

  • once, just once i wish i could read these negative comments and look at the posters channel and find that they had uploaded their own playing. msorensen54, if you grow some balls and post some videos please let me know. meow.

  • my amp actually is alot better then that thank god =] love my fullstack ^^

  • i dont like that amp i actually would never go for that... it kinda sucks...

  • i agree. not for me either, at least not when its wound up like this. you can get a good useable tone out of a twin but when you push them over the top (as some players do) they tend to get a bit loose in the bottom end. (thats what my wife says! big chuckle)

  • well i use a thunderverb orange amp 200w head all tube full stack pure vintage overdrive and clean sounds... with a gretsch white penguin and fender telecaster thinline as well as a mesa boogie road king series 2 full stack , on the side a marshall vintage modern 2466 fullstack =] i try to use the best of the best our most reasonable out there =] g'day

  • Trust me, twins sound AMAZING, it's just the crappy metal guitar that the guy is using, it needs some telecaster love! Listen to some white stripes, thats all twin. I understand what you mean though, it sounds terrible here.

  • you have embaresed us both

  • Actually my comment was directed at darthloadie's comment...just to be clear.

The amp is great, as is the guitar.

  • lol i didnt mean to in any way =] dont get me wrong i respect the clean sound on the amp just not my personal preference

  • @Morethanl1f3 YEah well congratulations... i have an old amp... just chasis... some ugly knobs, powered by 2 6l6, and 2 12ax7 on the preamp... umbranded and you know what... it sounds so pretty... it was handmade in somebody's basement... or probably reaconditioned from a keyboard amplification circuit... i'll upload some samples so people like you quit bragging about spending a lot of money on things they do not squeeze

  • i like my "crappy metal guitar". i like my tele's too. the white stripes? are you joking? too funny. you just lost all your credibility dude. i feel bad for you.

  • Do you take requests? I'll have a brownface Showman through a 2x15 on 10, please. With a side order of feedback (the non-microphonice variety).

  • is that for here or to go sir?

  • at 1:33 a microphonic reverb tube. did any one else catch that?

  • I am going to have to agree with some (though bot by calling the guy names like a bunch of immature assholes around here). How about getting someone who isn't "turning the knobs" and is showing us what this bad boy can do?? As mentioned elsewhere, with a store I am sure guitarists visit all day so you can get someone who WANTS to play and put this amp through it's paces!!

  • ahh there is intellegent life out there. i believe to "demo" an amp you have to manipulate the controls. i got this thing to go from 0 to 160 mph in 4 mins. believe it or not i can play. i am quite confident in my abilities. but its not about guitar chops its about tube distortion. i was just whipping open chords to get as much output out of the guitar as i could. this was done late night at the shop. if i did this during the day the people upstairs would &%$# thier pants. big chuckle. thanks.

  • Not a prob. I can understand where you are coming from. I have heard that these amps are amazing (never had first hand experience with one though) and just wanted someone to "open her up" and "WOW ME" with some crazy playing with such a legendary amp.

  • i just watched this vid again. your right. too much goofing around. it was more of an operational test to give to my amp tech. the poor thing had been sleeping for about 20 years. i would not want to be woken up like that! rock on.

  • aye daamon77 , those in glass houses shouldnt throw stones , cheshire music is right your casio video is pretty pish , sorry but your the new dick

  • hey cheshire music , your idea is good ,the amp does sound great but the guitar player is a diddy who cant play , surely there must be someone that comes into the store that is better that can really show this amp cooking . the only reason people are responding to this vid is because the guy that is on this vid is a dick

  • ahhhh... sdenny from the uk. do we have to come over there and bail you out again? you got big mouth for someone with no posted videos. im realy interested in what you have to offer other than negetive comments spit out form behind your computer keyboard. do you play guitar? or do you just whine on the violin? too funny......ding dong. you rang my bell.

  • Guys , why dont you agree that its a pretty pish demo . Ive played professionaly for over 30 years, many Gibsons , Fenders , Boogies, Marshall amps . I know my stuff . The video is pish but the objective is good ie let everyone hear the good valve amps . However you should just agree with all the comments of how pish the video is and improve the next one you do

  • pish?

  • Lol. This poor guy. He sure is taking a beating from everyone. Maybe we should cool out on him?

  • oh please dont stop on my account. we love to read these. its even funnier to check out your channels.

  • For you folks with no patience, instead of insulting and complaining just fast-forward to 3:45 as the knob-twisting (mostly) ends and it starts to get interesting at that point. It really is a cool video, just takes a while to get there.

  • thank you. thats where this thing opened up. the valves just got going. in another 5 or 10 mins you could back it off and still get the same tone.

  • Ok I know you think your helping sell these amps by doing this but trust me, your not

  • i agree , the guys a dick

  • i am a dick. if by dick you mean pushing a tube guitar amp to the brink.

  • this is the third comment you have made on this video. if its that bad just go away. your like herpes, you keep coming back.

  • A for effort but the guy does not have the chops to demo an amp.

  • i agree.

  • stop F***ing with the knobs and play already... christ

  • ted nugent would be proud

  • sweet feedback!

  • I'm speechless.................. I think your style, would be more suited to a Crate,Mesa Boogie,Gorilla etc. the fender amp thing doesn't seem to be working for you.

  • I am pretty sure he is just showing off the amp.... and I am pretty sure no ones style is suited to a crate, unless their style is just "bad". I have seen this guy play too, he plays a solid state.

  • unless their style is just "bad"

    hahaha, so true.

  • lol XD

  • >>recorded ... about 15 feet away.

15 feet? Good grief, a Twin on "10" could be recorded from 15 miles away. Incredibly, crazy-loud!

  • Great drive past 03:40. Thanks for posting.

  • Dude it might be your cord...

  • I cant see the point of this clip.

  • dont get me wrong fenders are nice but i think fender amp clean are just too overratted but thats just my opinion not my kinda sound particularily

  • if you go buy this video, youre right....but if theres nothing better than youre favorite gibson through a good fendertube amp (doesn't sound anything like this video)

  • i love this guy. a man after my own heart. i love "abusing" fender amps as well. i've seen twins rated at 85 and 100 watts with 4 6L6's. I think plate voltage/transformer is a factor as well as tube type. as far as turning one up to ten, they really stop getting louder at about 6 or so, so might as well get the rest of the grit out. YOU ROCK cheshire!!! more vids!!!!

  • TWins started out at 85 watts.

in the late 60's and early 70's that went up to 100, and for a time 115 watts. ( and 180 watt super twin)

Then they rolled it back to 100 .

Are those snare drums rattling or are the speakers going ?

I have never turned up a Twin to 10 indoors.

Except for the master there isn't anything that should go over 7. Yer just abusing it.

  • 115 watts is not exact, 135 watts is the right thing, I have 2 of those amplifiers. (Twin Reverb 135, silver face)

  • Ok 135. The one I had the longest was about a 1969.

It was loud as hell. A speaker shredder.

  • Just a heads-up, a silverface Twin Reverb running 4x6l6 power tubes is rated at 100 watts.

  • i thought that thig was loud for 60$.your right. thats the last time i listen to tom. this one had the master volume and a quartet of 6l6s (i think). around 1978 they put one out that was 85 watts? thanks for the heads up.will change post.ian.

  • you bought that for 60$?!

  • great name,by the way

  • would les paul with also sound that good when plugged to this amp?can you make a short movie with LP?;)
