@Priestshooby well I do it the oldschool way and just sample different pieces one at a time. you can sample a whole part and then chop it after on the asr. my way doesn't take long. you can peep the more popular way (chopping the whole sample in the ASR) in a vid by Vinroc called "ASR 10 Tutorial"
you are a true representative of the TRADITION OF HIPHOP production
fuck ! that complexity shit muthufukas is yappin bout that shit is over rated
go listen to some fuckin PROG ROCK OR APHEX TWIN if you want super duper complex shit or better yet DRUM N BASS which the true evolution of hiphop production if muthufukas know anything WORD UP yo shit is dope DIRT KEEP IT COMIN "D" HOLLA
i'm convinced dirt .... you r TIGHT! i love watchin yer videos super inspiring
ive been makin beats (of all kinds not jus hiphop) for too many years to mention
i'm 42yr and i know beats and hiphop and you got skills and yes its all about the art of the EAR! fuck what so n so says bout this that an the the 3rd ,JEL is coo
i respect his talent but really that shit he does is as of now jus NOVELTY
i rather watch you find a record make a phat ass beat an enjoying yer self doin it
Listening to how you choped those samples on the ASR-10,I'd swear it was done on an MPC with the note on function on if I didn't see it with my own 4 eyes!
Follow me on Twitter! So you can know whats crackin with ya homie Lil Deezy (aka DirtRevel on Twitter) Also I just signed up on USTREAM and will have a show called DIGITAL ORGANICS that I will be doin stuff on. Don't sleep!
Your right, its not very intricate. I believe there are 10 samples from 1 song. As far as Jel, he is hella dope but he focuses on playing the mpc like a traditional instrument during a live set. I play the record I use and show you what I did with it. Jel is "performing" his beats with his fingers on the mpc live. Maybe I should do that on the ASR!?
Re: South Ox's comment about "It's all about the ear" See most young producers don't understand the powerful display these older machines give.. ASR, EPS, and the MPC 60 are reallythe pioneers of sampling. Some major known producers still use them today... DONT underestimate the machine!! Depending on the operator some platinum ass shit can be made! Just cause you spent G's doesn't mean your a platinum producer!
man i had to momment on this vid again...listening to the record at first, then the chops that you had... you have a good ear. it takes talent to flip it the way you did. that bass is flawless and the drums came out knockin. great track dude, i straight up rhyme to this ish every time i watch it ha ha!
thanks man! Its nice to see some one recognize that its all about the ear! Thats the most important thing! Not the equipment, its the love for making music that makes you hear stuff other people might not catch at first ya know?
well there is bassline in the beat, in fact that was my main focus when I started puttin the sequences together,I wanted to funk up the sample. I might fatten it up though, I didn't add anything to the beat, its just the chopped record, the drums are already in the the record, I am gonna add more though
i like that piano roll that happens. what a groovy beat. good bass and piano. way to flip that sample dude. im feelin this big time. you, catacombkid and i are all alike i guess in that we are wannabe drummers "drumming" to the beats we hear. stay up
i hear wu tang all over that beat

How long does it take you to chop a beat in the ASR because of course you didn't chop it that fast in this video.

@SouthOx No don't do that. Your beats are great, please don't turn into some obnoxious showy finger drummer.
