  • If you really want to test preparedness, don't pay the light bill, and one day they will just turn all of those cool things off without any warning... That would be a real test for the family :) you could take the money you saved and buy a new scope for your AR-15! Just Kidding :)

  • Really enjoy your history of life videos. Thank you a lot for your posted and future videos and ideas.

  • Cody,

I've thought some about what to do when the power goes out with a well water system.

Lehman's sells a manual pump that can be set up on wells 200 feet deep, there maybe manual pumps that will go deeper but I would imagine windmills come into play there..

I think you can drop this pump right along side your existing set up.

Glad to see you have it handled with the gen.

    God Bless

  • Cody, what items do ship? Do you make them yourself? Can you make a video about what you do? So many of us may be able to use what your shipping... Please tell us about it. We would GLADLY be customers!!! Best of luck to you, I watch ALL your vids as soon as you post them, you have a great family and way of life. Please keep on posting!

  • We are praying for you and yours, Cody. We hope everything works out for all your stuff and the weather up there! Take care and God Bless!

  • A fantastic idea for us all to try a weekend without power! You'll be fine as I know you're more prepared than you think you are. You like to maintain a certain level of supplies that you just don't have right now because of moving. You'll be well set up for next winter. Still better than living in the city!

  • Yes Cody, many people out there aught to try that experiment, and shut off all utilites, pretend the trucks out of gas, and the station closed etc. and open up there eyes & minds, as to what it would be like without all those modern convieniances, and who's really going help them, and there familes situation in need, during times like that. And just maybe, they would learn and think about it, and be better prepared for what could come thier way, the next time something happens.

  • Murphy's Law and Murphy never sleeps. Bad things never seem to happen when you are prepared... it always seems to happen at the worst possible time. Had you moved in 6 mons ago, I am sure you would have had the chance to get everything set up. This is a great life lesson. I will be reevaluating my situation and trying to learn from this.

Hang in there. My best to you and your family!!!

    God Bless!

  • I had the fun of 2011 with two storms Irene and the Halloween snow storm that both knocked my power for several days on both occasions. It was a blessing and I learned a great deal. I chronicled both storms on my channel. Hang in there and learn, learn, learn. It is always a good dry run, good luck and God bless.

  • Like many others i enjoy your videos and listen and learn from them hang in there

  • is that f250 a diesel?

  • Great point Cody. Running a simulation or two can really show the holes in the prepping reality.

Each day is a learning opportunity.

Hope the weather eases up for you the family pretty soon.

Looking forward to more future vids from you.

  • Isn't it fun to learn? Ha Ha, not making fun of you bro, just been there and done that and quickly realized I was not ready!

  • hmmmm.....really does make you think of how prepared we actually are. Thanks Cody.

  • Sounds like your need'n a solar off the grid system for times like this.

  • Cody, back home (Detroit, Michigan) We call winter weather, "The Hawk" - Old Man Winter took out his extension cord and laid a good whipping on ya as many others! Hang in there bro! Love your videos!

  • Thank the Lord that you got your fireplace in and that you have a snow blower. Good luck and look forward to seeing your struggles w/ nature.

  • Glad to see more videos . . . I have always been a fan and appreciate your view on things.

Great prepping test suggestion to shut of power & water for a weekend.

    Be safe!

  • Good advice. I have tried to live 1 or 2 days without power or water. (not voluntarily, lol) Like every prepper knows, water is the most important resource that you CANNOT live without. I would live the rest of my life without power (commercial, like from the electric co) if it meant I would always have water. It opens your eyes to stuff you thought you had, and what you need.

  • I really enjoy hearing you talk about your faith! It's nice to see someone on youtube spea of God as a driving force in their lives. I love all your video's God Bless your family!

  • i still dont get it..what's your job again?

  • Thanks for the update, friend. I'll fire off a prayer for you and the family. Stay safe.

  • That test is a very good suggestion. I, here in Maine, get to experience this quite a bit, ice storms snap tree limbs like toothpicks. Water and backup heat are key. You can fill the toilet tank with used dish water to flush. I have a backup high BTU propane stove that does not need electric to fire, with a huge tank of fuel out back. It provides enough heat for comfort and is set to fire with a thermostat set below the oil heat thermostat so it does not need attention in case we are away.

  • You are doing awesome, Cody! Just having moved, and not being ready for this winter, you are still doing good. Imagine how most people are, when that happens - they travel far and wide, to stay with someone that has power, cable tv, and microwaves.

I suggested here in our home, a month ago, or so, to cut the power for a weekend, but there was a unanimous vote against my idea, lol. I think you are right, people take it for granted, and fear the thought of not having it. Gotta stay prepared :))

  • Great idea about trying a weekend without power as a little test. Good luck with the power!

  • Experience IS the best teacher. Hang in there. We're pulling for ya' ;) c

  • @SoulSurvivorX2 Cool, you follow Cody too.. =) Great Guy!

  • power? we don't need no stinkin power!!

  • Cody, I grew up in Maine so these days without power were common, a metal 5 gallon bucket of snow next to the wood stove makes flushing the toilet less of a hassle than lugging water. Nice to see your vids are getting more frequent. really enjoy them . God bless

  • Your doing amazing cody. 100 percent prepared or not. Your doing what you need to take care of your family and thats all that matters. family first.

  • thank you it's nice to see how you are doing

  • Greetings from Ireland, Love your videos, Keep safe and warm.

  • cody- if you're ever interested in a back up off grid RE system, hit me up. my ranch is fully off grid (solar/wind). there's a lot of junk out there claiming to be good... most of it isn't. i live kinda close, so could even consult. hope you and the family do well through the power outage! adam

  • If you are not ready MOTHER NATURE DOES NOT CARE and WILL still kick your arse .

But your home does look amazing though , and once you get properly organized it will be an amazing place for to bring up you son at ......

  • Cody, glad to see that you and your family made it through the winter storm safely. You raise some excellent points that we should all take into consideration when we prep. There is nothing like an actual experience to determine what works, what doesn't and what needs to be refined. Thanks for doing this video!

  • here in WA i was out of power for 2 days... brings ya down a level. no heat, power for cell phones, no stoves to heat food... had to bundle up, split wood and stay dry. got cold enough last night to see my breath in my bedroom. all bad.... you are right, it pointed out my downfalls of prep too. need more batteries and fuel.

  • you can see the prevailing wind during the storm

hits that telephone pole ,probably on the north side because of the northerly outflow wind during the snow storm

  • Moving is very disruptive in the best of situations, much less the middle of winter. Stay warm and stay safe my friend.

  • The Global Warming Business is really taking it's toll! -- Stay safe!

  • Cody, any plans for off grid power? Wind or solar? Would love to see it done

  • still jealous of you, you guys be safe, Im sure Jack is loving it

  • you make a good point. We get alot of power cuts and it's just part of our life. So for us it's no big deal. Your quite right though, for anyone that has not gone through it, give it a try so you can run your systems. Good video.

  • The power being out can be a bummer. My Dad has his place with a hardwired genny that runs off LPG,never worry about the dark or lack of water.. At least you have the wood stove in the house. You will end up doing what a lot of rural people do and convert heating and cooking to gas.Stay safe,

  • what kind of company do you have ? what type of parts do you ship ?

  • Thanks for the update Cody, moving really messes up everything for a while. Good luck

  • you arent prepared ideally because you just spent most of the year fixing that other location... you just got into this new one recent man... next year you will be prepared better

  • I know how you fell brother!!!!!!! We are in the same shape on our new homestead :(

  • Would like to see more of the beautiful wood stove in action.

Srry to hear that weather has you socked in. Texas has been unseasonably warm for this time of year. We're in the high 70's with lots of sun. I'm sure you guys could use a little of the sun and warmth.

Thks for keeping us apprised of your adventures.

    God Bless

  • Sounds like you need a visit from Engineer775.

Phone video looks fine, keep using it. We'll probably get more videos that way.

    Show the new Wranglerbarn.

    Peace!

  • thanks for the wake-up Cody. Love all your vids.

  • cody looks allot like nutn especially in this video. great idea for a challenge series of vids for your channel if you market it im sure it will deliver good vids. the weekend survivor challenge! lol best of luck and happy newyear dude.

  • One of the most genuine videos i have seen on youtube. Real life situation. It is amazing how easy it is to take daily amenities for granted.. Great video.

  • Great advice about trying a weekend with no utilities. Keep up the great work Cody!

  • Thanks for the update Cody. I was only saying to my wife last night that even getting the weekly shopping out of the back of the minivan was much hard than it needed to be in the dark at -15C! To be without power and water for 48 hrs would put us on our backs right at this time and we have been in our rental for near 7 months now... Oh how we do not value that which is easy...until it is not there...

  • snow....nice.

  • We were hit really hard on Halloween weekend when we lost power for 3 days. My parents had come up for their vacation down from NC and thought it was a hoot for sure! I had plenty of water storage socked away as our well went down (no gen yet...being remedied!) and we had plenty of food (LP stove and grill!) and also had grey water to use for the toilets as needed. Heat was an issue all to it's own though... THAT is something I need to think more on.

    Thanks Cody!

  • Hang in there Cody and family. I'm not as prepared as I would like to be either. Nice to know that although we are not a prepared as we would like to be, God has made sure we are a prepared as we need to be. Before long, it will be summer, and you will be trying to figure out how to deal with the mosquitoes! The quality of your short reports via your phone are actually pretty good.

  • we had a hurricane and were w/o power for 3 days in Maine last fall. It was good to see how prepared we were or weren't in some areas. Thanks for the vids. It would be interesting to see your food storage and h2o ideas sometime. Take care.

  • Let's all pray that the preps we make are needed only for some snow. We've had less than an inch this year and after the last few years it's a relief. Of course, we've still got a few months to go...

  • It seems that when we are prepared for anything then along comes a whole new jar of whoop-azz

to send us back to the planning board.I feel for u but I bet it is an adventure that you can journal for your children...GBU and he has

  • The quality really isn't to bad for a phone!

  • Power outages where I live are common it has gotten better in years past the power could be out for 3-4 days. We have municiple water so that isn't a problem some people have a well water they can't flush their toilet or wash. Gotta keep couple cords of firewood on hand, lots of propane for the coleman stove, batteries for flashlights. Most people have generators around here. Need a couple fiver cans full of gas. Lots of fun especially when the power comes back on then off again.

  • God bless, and stay safe..

  • Great insights and thanks for sharing your experience.

  • stay safe and warm

  • Stay safe!

  • you can get a small generator converted to propane for those times when you need it. The good thing about propane is that it will never go bad unlike gasoline or diesel! As long as it's above -44 the liquid will still boil.

  • Hey my friend, ill be praying for you and your family, you take care, thanks for the video,be safe my friend.

  • Cody I will be really interested in hearing some of the issues you face and some of the preps you rethink. God Bless you and your family

  • agree with others, video quality is very good w/ phone.

yes we are very dependent on electricity. broke down and bought a port. gen. after numerous power failures.

  • I guess this qualifies as y'alls annual preparedness exercise, the positive thing is that this will make all of your unknowns know and provide you the opportunity to mitigate. Moving during the winter is tough even with all of your stuff, so I really feel for you! Good thing you and your old lady have that strong backed boy to rely on!

  • I have been through a similar situation a few years ago. We were without power for 5 days, and that was before I was a prepper. Luckily, I was raised on a farm and always had extra food & supplies on hand. But you are right, it is an eye opening experience. I am glad that you & your family are safe.

  • Great video and idea! Keep them coming! Hope every one is dealing with the new lifestyle good if not great. Next year all your worries this year will be just a thing of the past, keep living the life!!

  • and your video is excellent with the phone

  • Did they tell you when your getting your power back on???

  • cody , dont forget a roof rake very good for getting snow off the roof i use em and there great

  • If only you had a CAT to move all that snow, those machines are very reliable and never have problems =)

  • Snowmobile Cody. Good friend of mine lives in Couer D'Laine ID and come winter time, all you see is snowmobiles. At the grocery store, at the mall, in the drive up at the bank. That's it, that's all you see. Something to think about Bro. Best of luck to ya. If I was closer I'd help ya with getting that wood piled up.

  • Hey man when are you starting on your hill project?

  • I thought I was prepared. Then I spent 18 months unemployed and 6 months completely off-grid. In that time we had a new born. If it wasn't for the time I had taken in my preparedness especially my food and water storage, we wouldn't have made it. We learn by doing, by experience. I have learned more from failure than success. I am just thankful I came across some of your videos back then and was inspired to be more prepared, more self sufficient.

  • I still would love to live there despite the harsh conditions.

  • I understand how you feel My wife and I are about to move into our new property. This has come about a year earlier than expected. Circumstances both good and bad made it possible, but we will be moving at the worst time of year. I could heat my house with wood if I had the wood stove installed, a chainsaw, a splitter, and time. These things will have wait till spring now. Also we don't have an emergency generator yet. We are still excited. You will persevere, as will we.

  • whatever happened to neither rain, sleet, or snow for the post office?

  • the news warned people to be prepared, told them to to get gas to get food etc... not talking to you Cody. The people in Tacoma and surrounding area. now some of them are on day/night 3 w/o power Be PREPARED PEOPLE

    thx Wranglestar btw best wishes...

PS If i remember you are around rainier some where ?

  • The dog is getting big, looking good.

  • At least you can still get to town. You will have a long list of things to do for next winter.

  • looks like ya got some work ahead ... "water first!" :P

  • Well at least you don't have to worry about the stuff in your freezer going bad......
