  • I ripped the ribbon wire, any suggestions on how to fix the wire or an alternative to use the scanner

  • I pull one of these out the other day. IT IS SO COOL!!! I wired it to a usb and now I can plug it in anywhere.

  • im not trying to be mean or anything but your acting like kipkay but with a worse camera

  • @yourmom232x The only difference is that kipkay sold out and doesn't make anything cool anymore, hes the worst youtube failure in my book at the moment.

  • FYI: that is a Dip switch you are using.

  • @brainfarth Yep a DIP or Dual Inline Package switch. Used to be common on motherboards back 25 yrs ago.

  • You can run 12v to these tye lights you simply need to use a 330 ohm 1watt resistor with to keep from roasting it ;D

  • --' led.

  • i try with a HP multifunctional, no works, 9 or 12 V kill the lamp :-(, maybe next time try with celular charger 3.2.v, :-(

  • The light is produced by red, blue, and green LEDs fixed at the end of the fixture. On top of the LEDs is a long piece of rectangular clear plastic, painted white alone an edge and gets thinner as it moves away from the LEDs. This reflects, disperses and mixes the different coloured lights evenly so that when 2 or more LEDs light up, we get different colours, by mixing the colours. White light is produced when all three primary coloured LEDs light up.

  • can be this dangerous?

  • @Hibbel1 YES THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR YOUR EYES, IT PUTS OUT HARMFUL UV !!!!!!!

  • @Hibbel1 it's not electrically dangerous if working with low voltage as recommended. The LEDs do not produce harmful UV radiation. Because of the way the light is dispersed, it is not dangerous as it would be if looking directly into a lit LED from a short distance. With this type of scanner light, the LED light is dispersed by a special long plastic lens, so it is not concentrated. Please see my other post.

  • the one i have will operate on 3V

  • Cool, hey, I have a lamp like this but I am a bit clumsy: D and disarmed

but not if it works. I have fear that something explodes or something haha

    What should I do?

Thanks in advance for the video and greetings from Honduras: D

  • More info:

red is pin 2 on the strip, green is pin 3 and blue is pin 4. pin 5 is the ground.

to solder onto the thin wire i used a craft knife to peel the wire off of the ribbon and soldered it onto a 5 way rotary switch. it's neat :)

  • @Drewmeikleham see and people e-mailed us saying that it was impossible!

  • @HMInnovations Nothing is impossible with science!

  • @Drewmeikleham for some reason this worked with the inverse polarity , i would put the pos + in the fifth pin and when i touched pother pins with the ground - ligths will go on.

I tried with a dimmer from a PWM made with a 555 chip and did work ! this is my drawing class project , thank you

  • YAY!!!!!! i just scavenged mine from a Canon pixma printer/scanner, now its soldering time

  • This innt innovation.. this is going backwards ... your turning a scanning device in to a cancer causing flashlight. you turned a 100 dollar scanner into a 3 dollar walmart desk lamp

  • @fawkUtube i used a broken scanner that my dad gave me. why would you use a working colour scanner?

  • @Drewmeikleham why would you want a 6th finger? Advantages on the x-box? UV light is dangerous to skin and eyes. Lemme know how it works out.

  • @fawkUtube It's not UV light, it's a tri colour LED with a plastic diffuser strip. s'workin good.

  • it rell bad...kool..

  • It's patched

  • how did you change the colors before you connected the lamp to the switch

  • hi ive got packard bell scanner and ive taken the scanner light out. on the ribbon cable there is 12 lines/wires on it but on yours there seems to be 9. How do i figure out what each one is for so i can wire up the battery to it? thanks

  • I may do this with my 3 in 1 printer b/c it eats ink carts like crazy and they are expensive and hard to find. it a canon which is a shame b/c canon makes great products. i've seen an all in 1 that has carts that are dirt cheap. I may either save the connector from the mainboard to this lightbar or tap directly to inside the bar and bypass the ribbon cable b/c it looks hard to solder to.

  • awesome iv got a lexmark scanner :P and what voltage can u use for the lamp? just 9V or 12v?

  • @JnNmusic 9v. a 12 will blow it up :P

  • @HMInnovations i tried a PWM and didn't work, but i will try it again with this new info, thanks

  • nice hack, better than kipkay's scanner light hack!

  • i have the same all in 1

  • What percentage of scanners use these bulbs do you think. I have pulled many a bulb out of old scanners and never seen a tri color bulb.

I REALLY WANT ONE OF THOSE.

What brand was the scanner and was it an older or newer model?

  • i dont know what percentage of scanners, but we opened a Kodak and a Lexmark and both had this lightbulb in it.

  • @HMInnovations Some are CCFL lamps and some are LED bars.

  • @sensoryhouse most new scanners (or all new ones?) has this type. Old ones doesn't.

  • @sensoryhouse Any color scanner should have a bulb like this. The black & white scanners will not.

  • @Midnight6971

I pulled out three from Richon grey scale copiers with only green but they look great

  • Thats cool, my printer/scanner only has a white light.
