I can say I have been touched by many, from robert johnson to frank Zappa. I just thank God for all of them and all the ones I dont care for to show me the difference.Rory was dynamite.

@manakamar Don't believe everything the "Lamestream media" tells ya, Fritz: People who don't support Tea Party principles enjoy the big, greasy thumb of the government stuck up their brainwashed asses 24/7, telling them what's good for them - much like the Nazification of the Fatherland from 1933-1939, no? Goddamn right, son. Carry on; case closed.
@hansboofer The principles may be good, but what do they do with them?
Typical for Tea-Party-candidates is an unbelievable ignorance about things, that are not directly connected with church,NRA and taxes.(See Palin or that Republican sowannabe-candidate that didn't even know about the US-activities in Libya.)
For all other topics they use some well-sounding slogans and common places,
that please their voters.
And THAT is very like what went on in Germany 80 years ago.
@manakamar Uh, you mean slogans like "Hope," Change," Change," Hope?" Sheesh, son, we have a doofus who has added a trillion dollars to the deficit every year he's been in office. Unbelievable ignorance ?He's the Commander-in-Chief and he pronounces "Corpsman" as "Corpseman" 3 fuckin' times in the same teleprompter speech? And that the USA consists of 57 states? Gingrich would beat this poser like a stepchild in a debate, easy. Smaller government, son - not the Obamian thumb up your pink ass.
@hansboofer Sure buddy, don't controll anything,Let them brokers ruin another million common people, who really work to make a living and do not gamble around with money that's not their's.And maybe Gingich would beat Obama in a debate ,but that's not the criterion for a president.I doubt that Gingrich would be better. It's pretty easy to criticize,if you're not in charge and even more easy,if you don't know what you're talking about.
@manakamar Son, Wall Street brokers and financiers cannot imprison you, cannot pass laws, cannot tax you, and cannot impose fiscal policies. Only the government can. Got it? Case closed, son. Happy T-DAY to you in Germany...
@hansboofer - would you 2 dudes who like political feuds-please piss off outside so I can ENJOY RORY !!!!
And as for "who is the greatest guitarist in the world" thing- all I can say is they may not have been born yet-but I do know that ALL the greats that have left us are still alive through their music .........RIP Rory , Jimi.......& whoever made you feel good when you needed it.
@PurpleAndZeppelin don't ask that question, ever again... rory is great.. but jimi... jimi said that because he was humble and all... he never did think of himself as the best
@fouryniners that's total bullshit Jesus freaks come up with to try and play up Phil Keaggy (a fine guitarist - but certainly no Jimi Henrix). why don't you dopes check snopes at least where it's rightfully refuted?
I think that, as well as the Hendrix quote, there's one more quote that shows just how great Gallagher was; Peter Green (the original guitarist of Fleetwood Mac) was once told at a show that he was the greatest guitarist to have ever come out of Britain. His response?
'You wouldn't be saying that if Rory Gallagher was still alive.'
@irishgandalf757 I am aware that he was born in Ballyshannon, but I'm also fairly sure that Ballyshannon is in the part of Northern Ireland that is in the U.K..
@Vanguard448 Are you suggesting that County Donegal is in the UK? Because you are very much mistaken, I have family there who would be very much offended to be confused as British. Look it up on wikipedia, i would link but youtube doesn't allow it.
@irishgandalf757 Well, I just looked it up and it appears that Ballyshannon is indeed in Southern Ireland, so I apologize. I am not aware as to what comprises North and South Ireland other than the two halves of the map because frankly I never really took any interest in it. Obviously if I visited an area of Ireland I would first check if it was in the North or the South, but other than that I have no real knowledge on the subject.
@Vanguard448 If you have little of no subject on a subject please don't make statements like "I'm also fairly sure that Ballyshannon is in the part of Northern Ireland that is in the U.K.." because you come across like an idiot. When someone corrects you please have the humility to admit your lack of knowledge and recognise that some people (namely citizens of the Republic of Ireland, such as myself) may have more knowledge on the subject then yourself. Also there is no "Southern Ireland".
@Vanguard448 could you include jeff beck in that? its a bummer as i love jeff and rory both....two different styles, true, but such bloody talent and energy from 'really nice blokes'
Rory's way of playing was full of energy and very personnal. I've always loved what he played and sang. He wasn't a great technical guitar player, he was spontaneous and generous. He all the time gave the best of himself. Nevertheless, I think each musician has his own playing and comparing one to another has just no sense. It's a kid game.
@PurpleAndZeppelin First be polite ! I think you don't know what a guitar is. Are you a guitar player ? Have you ever really worked that instrument, hours and days along ? What I wrote isn't rough at all and I like playing boogies, even playing slide and I can recognize a great technical player. Though this not the point, I like Rory's music.
@PurpleAndZeppelin Rory was possibly the most advanced technical guitarist of the 70's. I appreciate you are trying to say that technique isn't everything but the fact that his passion dominates his music doesn't change the fact that...... wow!!!!
When Rory was playing like this, Sirs Vai, Satriani, and Malmsteen were still strumming their dicks with one finger. To say that Rory wasn't technical is to say the likes of Hendrix, Blackmore & Paige were also not technical. Do you believe that too?
@PurpleAndZeppelin You're right! Rory isn't fantastic technically by any means....to today's standards, of course. But back in his day he was doing stuff no-one else was doing.
@jp6l6 Just to quote the great Jimi Hendrix who I think took the guitar to a whole new level with a technique still very difficult to pull off even for modern guitarists. When asked how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world, he answered "I don't know, ask Rory". I think that says it all right???
@jp6l6 Quite right as all guitarists who ever played at any level will tell you. Not great technically, but gave everything all the time and recognised as one of the greats. Played from his soul like Kossoff played from his.
@TennisUK11 Man I love that comparison! Paul is one of my favourites though I'm first to admit he was not so great technically. IMO Rory was much better but it doesn't matter much since they both gave out their heart on the stage. Sometimes technique just is overrated and too often it's mixed up with speed (someone mentioned Steve Vai).
@GleBanana Jmi never talked about his own playing and technic, he talked about his trio and and about its evolution. Jimi didn't know himself HE WAS THE ONE AND A GENIOUS. In 66 or 67 (I don't remember) , in an interview he was asked who was the best guitarist and answerd "Ask Rory". I think they were friends and it was a way to avoid talking about himself.
Now, at Berkley, they're still studying Jimi's playing because at this time his music came from nowhere, he was the first in that way.
@jp6l6 Not technical? I have to agree with Purple Zep. If it had strings Rory played it. He played flamenco, celtic, delta blues, chicago blues, Rory blues, bluegrass, jazz and any other style you can imagine. He could make it scream and howl, or he could coax the sweetest sounds from a variety of instuments. Not technical? You are kidding me. Please tell me who is, if Rory isnt?
i never really listened this guy 'till today and shit what what a find! anyone know anymore like, blues rock kinda stuff? i got most the 'huge' ones like cream and the stones but i'm always looking for more :)
@el6caballo6oscuro6 try lookin' for Joe Bonamassa, B.B. Chungking & the Buddaheads, The Blindside Blues Band, The Texas Blues Runners....I could go on all day...
@ hansboofer. There is just too much wonderful stuff out there to even consider what the best is.I would have to listen to my ALBUMS all day for a month to even start to compile a list of the greatest guitarists in the world. @fouryniners I'm sorry, my memory failed. I'm a French speaker too and my brain mixed the ideas.

@fouryniners Bull, check snopes.com for Phil's name. It's an urban legend.
strat6911 11 months ago
@fouryniners that's total bullshit Jesus freaks come up with to try and play up Phil Keaggy (a fine guitarist - but certainly no Jimi Henrix). why don't you dopes check snopes at least where it's rightfully refuted?
carlgt1 8 months ago
@fouryniners Jimi has never been confirmed to have said it about Phil either, my knowledge. He's been reported to have said it about many guitarists.

Vanguard448 1 year ago
@Vanguard448 Except he's not British, Thin Lizzy had the same problem and it pissed them off no end
irishgandalf757 1 year ago
@irishgandalf757 Rory was born in Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom/British Isles.
Vanguard448 1 year ago
@Vanguard448 Correction, Rory was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland!
There's an annual festival in his name held there since it's his place of birth! You are thinking the whole of ulster is in the UK, not true!
irishgandalf757 1 year ago
@irishgandalf757 I am aware that he was born in Ballyshannon, but I'm also fairly sure that Ballyshannon is in the part of Northern Ireland that is in the U.K..
Vanguard448 1 year ago
@Vanguard448 Are you suggesting that County Donegal is in the UK? Because you are very much mistaken, I have family there who would be very much offended to be confused as British. Look it up on wikipedia, i would link but youtube doesn't allow it.
irishgandalf757 1 year ago
@irishgandalf757 Well, I just looked it up and it appears that Ballyshannon is indeed in Southern Ireland, so I apologize. I am not aware as to what comprises North and South Ireland other than the two halves of the map because frankly I never really took any interest in it. Obviously if I visited an area of Ireland I would first check if it was in the North or the South, but other than that I have no real knowledge on the subject.
Vanguard448 1 year ago
@Vanguard448 If you have little of no subject on a subject please don't make statements like "I'm also fairly sure that Ballyshannon is in the part of Northern Ireland that is in the U.K.." because you come across like an idiot. When someone corrects you please have the humility to admit your lack of knowledge and recognise that some people (namely citizens of the Republic of Ireland, such as myself) may have more knowledge on the subject then yourself. Also there is no "Southern Ireland".

Rory's way of playing was full of energy and very personnal. I've always loved what he played and sang. He wasn't a great technical guitar player, he was spontaneous and generous. He all the time gave the best of himself. Nevertheless, I think each musician has his own playing and comparing one to another has just no sense. It's a kid game.
jp6l6 1 year ago 14
@jp6l6 He wasn't a great technical guitar player?? Are you deaf? Do you know whats a guitar?? Have you seen a guitar in your fucking life??
PurpleAndZeppelin 1 year ago 23
@PurpleAndZeppelin First be polite ! I think you don't know what a guitar is. Are you a guitar player ? Have you ever really worked that instrument, hours and days along ? What I wrote isn't rough at all and I like playing boogies, even playing slide and I can recognize a great technical player. Though this not the point, I like Rory's music.
jp6l6 1 year ago 3
@jp6l6 I'm a drummer, Rory more than technique, that he's, Rory is magical, because he's best
PurpleAndZeppelin 1 year ago 2
@PurpleAndZeppelin Rory was possibly the most advanced technical guitarist of the 70's. I appreciate you are trying to say that technique isn't everything but the fact that his passion dominates his music doesn't change the fact that...... wow!!!!
When Rory was playing like this, Sirs Vai, Satriani, and Malmsteen were still strumming their dicks with one finger. To say that Rory wasn't technical is to say the likes of Hendrix, Blackmore & Paige were also not technical. Do you believe that too?
MightyRed5 1 year ago
@PurpleAndZeppelin You're right! Rory isn't fantastic technically by any means....to today's standards, of course. But back in his day he was doing stuff no-one else was doing.
HueyMaxSucks 1 year ago
@jp6l6 Haha... a drummer is smarter than you.
AmplifiedGoats 1 year ago
@jp6l6 Just to quote the great Jimi Hendrix who I think took the guitar to a whole new level with a technique still very difficult to pull off even for modern guitarists. When asked how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world, he answered "I don't know, ask Rory". I think that says it all right???
Rory LEGEND!!!

@jp6l6 i actually wanted to blame you to be narcistic, but now i only want to 'njoy the sound. the sound sounds like HANG THE RULES^^
Bananaspliff27 1 year ago
@jp6l6 Quite right as all guitarists who ever played at any level will tell you. Not great technically, but gave everything all the time and recognised as one of the greats. Played from his soul like Kossoff played from his.
TennisUK11 1 year ago
@TennisUK11 Man I love that comparison! Paul is one of my favourites though I'm first to admit he was not so great technically. IMO Rory was much better but it doesn't matter much since they both gave out their heart on the stage. Sometimes technique just is overrated and too often it's mixed up with speed (someone mentioned Steve Vai).

@irja1961 Thanks. Give me a soulful player than a speed freak anyday

@jp6l6 even Jimi SAYED RoRy ist the BEST! any complains ?
GleBanana 11 months ago
@GleBanana Jmi never talked about his own playing and technic, he talked about his trio and and about its evolution. Jimi didn't know himself HE WAS THE ONE AND A GENIOUS. In 66 or 67 (I don't remember) , in an interview he was asked who was the best guitarist and answerd "Ask Rory". I think they were friends and it was a way to avoid talking about himself.
Now, at Berkley, they're still studying Jimi's playing because at this time his music came from nowhere, he was the first in that way.

jp6l6 11 months ago
@jp6l6 Not technical? I have to agree with Purple Zep. If it had strings Rory played it. He played flamenco, celtic, delta blues, chicago blues, Rory blues, bluegrass, jazz and any other style you can imagine. He could make it scream and howl, or he could coax the sweetest sounds from a variety of instuments. Not technical? You are kidding me. Please tell me who is, if Rory isnt?
