man that cummins sounds tuff, but i just love the way that old w model is presented, really good to see, dont ever sell it cause i promise you that you will cry when you put your foot down on one of these new egr cummins...
The smaller more effecient, elctronic motor comment is not perfectly true. The motor that makes 900hp is under less load almost all of the time while the smaller electric motors are strugling almost all the time. If your making boost your burning fuel. Although the parts are uh well outrageous, b-model cat or well just about any mechanical motor. Even the early E-models. Check out Pittsburg Power turn a 550 into 850 easy.
I see your point, but a motor juiced up to 900hp often still has internals designed for 500-600hp, or a 550 turned up to 850. To make noticeably more power with a diesel you must have more fuel. This translates to more stress on the often still stock parts, premature failure, and higher fuel bills. To someone trying to feed a family, the extra parts and fuel bills just to be able to pass everyone on a hill (when it isn't broke!) is a bad idea...
In my opinion, not if you want to earn a living. Parts are expensive and there are much more efficient electronic engines out there. (N14, ISX, etc.) It would pass anything but a diesel station, but I think you would be hard pressed to turn a profit.
A K can get just as good of mileage as an NTC series, N14, and ISX. There is an article on diesel injections website that tells about a guy in TX with a KTTA-HVT @ +1000hp that gets around 5.5mpg...the same as the 450 hp ISX I drive . It has more to do with the gearing(trans and diff) and how well disciplined the driver is. If it was left at stock specs, i wouldn't be suprised to see 6.5+ mpg, with the right gearing, out of a K. But, who can afford one?

850 is too much fuel... If you wanna melt your pistons while climbing jackass mountain or some damn hill be my guest.

With propper tuning and airflow would a kta600 still be a good on-road motor today?
