I assume you mean my bracing structure behind the board. I would actually attach the bracing first before attaching the paper. I glue 1x2 (or 1x4) using standard wood glue.
Thanks so much for your series on preparation for Encaustic painting. You've explained everything very clearly and I'm more confident now about starting out. Your videos are just what I needed!
Thank you for making these encaustic videos. They are very well done and helpful. I took an encaustic class in college a few years ago, and I've been wanting to get back into it. This is the method I was taught for making a white ground, but I was just wondering if it works to paint directly onto wood. I would like to see the wood grain through the painting in some areas. Thanks!
You don't have to have a ground, they are often used when you want a solid white background to start. Some people also like the way layering of transparent wax over a white ground provides an unusual depth to the painting. This is especially effective with collage techniques. I often don't use a ground and paint on 1/2 inch russian birch plywood.
You are correct, but you have to mix it and cook it, it's a bit of a hassle, so I'm assuming people will just skip to the new paintable ground from RF.
Can you please tell me the name of the glue you are using. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I believe you can use rabbit skin glue for a ground and can buy this from art shop. I read this in joanne mattera's 'the art of encaustic painting'.
