The Philippines was a major reason why the Japs were slowed down in their advance towards Australia. What was supposed to be a 1 month operation turned into 5. The amount of shelling Corregidor received was astounding, and the soldiers held out despite being practically starved. Without that valiant resistance the war in the Pacific would not have turned in favor of the Allies.

Imperial Japanese govt.allied with Philippine govt. which get independence in 1943. But many Filipino citizens were killed by indiscriminate bombing and indiscriminate bombardment of land by U.S.Navy's warships. It was a pity that Imperial Japanese Army could not repulse brute U.S. Army's attack to Filipino people and could not protected them. Philippine was recolonized by U.S. Army again. The result was same as U.S. -Philippine War (a revolt to U.S.). from 1899

The proposal received a majority vote on 28 April 1919. 11 out of the 17 delegates present voted in favor to its amendment to the charter, and no negative vote was taken.

The chairman, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, overturned it saying that although the proposal had been approved by a clear majority, that in this particular matter, strong opposition had manifested itself, and that on this issue a unanimous vote would be required. This strong opposition came from the British delegation. Though the proposal itself was compatible with British stance of equality for all subjects as a principle for maintaining imperial unity,

...it is curious how all the foreigners[sic] perpetually harp on principle and right and other abstractions, whereas the Americans and still more the British are only considering what will give the best chance to the League of working properly. Though in a diary entry by House it says that President Wilson was at least tacitly in favor of accepting the proposal, but in the end he felt that British support for the League of Nations was a more crucial goal.

There is not much evidence to show that Wilson agreed strongly enough with the proposal to risk alienating the British delegation over it. The Japanese media fully covered the progress of the conference, leading to an alienation of Japanese public opinion towards the United States of America, leading to broader conflicts later on.

The fact; Imperial Japanese Army supported Burmese independence campaigner Aung San who asked for political asylum to Japan before Pacific War began, and trained military affairs for his friends. When the Pacific War began, they, Burma National Army, fought for liberation for Burma with Imperial Japanese Army against British Army.

Japanese govt. invited an Indian independence campaigner Shubosh Chondro Boshu to Japan and supported his provisional govt. of Free India. It had a military power which organized and recruited volunteers from India soldier of former British Indian Army that IJN captured after the fall of Singapore. The Army was Indian National Army. They fought against British troops with their slogan “march to Delhi" with Imperial Japanese Army. INA and IJA were equal partner.

Netherlands Army and British Army returned to Indonesia after the end of Pacific War, Japanese Army had already surrendered, but many Japanese officers and soldiers fought for independence of Indonesia as volunteer with the Indonesian independent group soldiers.

Our US history books skimmed over the war and called it the Philippine Insurrection. My Illocano grandfather fought the Americans as did the Visayans, Tagalogs, and other groups. Indeed at least 500,000 Filipino's died of everything from mass murder to starvation.
The first US war crime trial was held in Manila, the Commander of the Army unit was found guilty of murdering Visayans. Still, my father only spoke of the good that came from US occupation.

I don't think the Philippine guerillas defeated the Japanese troops. They are in the mountains most of the time just like the NPAs of today. The guerillas were in contact with the forces of Gen. MacArthur giving them valuable information necessary in retaking the Philippines.

@MrEriesal Filipinos won tactically because out of 48 provinces of the Philippines at that time,only 12 is controlled by the Japanese.
They are MORE ACTIVE than the NPA of today because millions of Filipino supported the resistance against the Japanese and it was so effective because Japs in Phil. didn't able to send reinforcement to their priority locations abroad. The resistance to Japanese occupation is successful mainly because of strong support from the citizens.
