Tragedy all that metal is no recylced. The bikes, chairs, washing machine, water tank, etc. It all could have been scrapped. Instead, iron ore will be dug up an processed.
When I'm older and I have my own place, I'm going to build a shed and on garbage day, will go about harvesting items.
So far I've recovered a 2.5 HP working electric motor, a bike with ball bearings that are in perfect condition... although the bike itself is in a questionable condition, and tons of other small motors, axels, gears, PVC tubing, copper tubing, all in pretty good condition.
My mom has stopped me from doing this anymore lol, theres a huge pile of motors in our basement :P
If you're so concerned about the environment, then why did you take all the metal instead of telling the folks go and take it to a scrap yard? Looks like a bunch of people throwing stuff away. I fail to see what was wrong with the metal garbage can or even the bikes? Goodwill will have taken the bikes; they were in decent shape. Oh well, I've always said people were wasteful and stupid. This video keeps that fact alive.
I am paid to provide a service, I am not paid to tell customers what to do. I encourage them to be more responsible, but I do as they wish.
There are people that will go around and scavenge alot of the metal on their own, but people simply accumulate too much worthless crap over the years that nobody wants. Even Goodwills throw away tons of stuff all the time, I've seen it myself.
The fact is, we continue to flood the world with useless crap that doesnt even need to exist in the first place.
I have yet to see Goodwill throw away lots of good stuff. I have been there after donating good stuff to them and it's sorted. In fact, just donated yesterday and watched it get sorted. Now, you give them broken or soiled, etc items...you can bet it will get pitched. They can't and/or won't sell it. I really can't blame them. I think all waste providers should prohibit picking up items that can be recycled (like scrap metal) or disposed of properly (like TVs).
But you didnt hang around to see what they do later!...when they have reached their limit or have too much of anything it gets trashed, regardless of whether or not its good stuff.
I totally agree that waste providers should prohibit certain items, but it all depends on the market and the location. If a waste provider doesnt have the support of the local government they cannot prohibit these items without risking losing to the competition.
Basicly I'm agreeing with you, not arguing. In most of my videos you see many examples of extreme wastefullness, which has been typical of this city.
BUT...to be fair...the company I work for is the leader in the movement for change in how we handle our waste around here, and they are investing much money and effort in this.
For example, our new Recycle Bank program, which has revolutionized recycling in our city, and its only just begun...
I have read that it is possible to do recycling after everything has been collected together. One crushes the trash to very small pieces, it's called a "trash mill", and then you can recycle the components separately. - Here in Germany, it is seldom done, we as citizens have to sort the trash ourselves, we have - depending on your city - from 4 to 7 different trash bins: organic, plastics, metal, light glass, dark glass, paper, general refuse.
Maybe your Goodwill discards things but if it's in good condition, ours keeps it. It can always go a neighboring Goodwill store that may be running low on items. Just because one store is stocked, doesn't mean all of them are.
Nicely done. How many drivers does your company have and do you consider yourself the best one? Out here in Little Rock, Ark we have about 25 drivers and some guy named Russell makes about $23 an hour in a RL. He knocks out about 500 stops a day. How many stops do you have and about how much do you make?
We have around 40 (rough estimate, never actually counted them all) residential drivers here in the Wichita area at Waste Connections. I don't like to be cocky and say I'm the best, but I'm definately near the top of the list.
In ten years I've seen many drivers come and go, and there are a very small handfull that can keep up with me.
To be totally honest, I think there is only one driver here that I would consider better (faster) than me.
We face a real dilemma: People wants Hi-Tech, the freshest things, the late fashion, either the cheapest price! - It's the same thing for professionals and the industrial ans commercial sector! - Whenever people should abandon the capitalism, the SYSTEM itself, create anything with used material as electronics, furniture, white goods instead throwing it away, use valuable apparatuses, the problem would be over!
Great Vid!!! You statements are so true. It's amazing how trash people generate,6 to 8 40 gallon cans a week WTF are they stealing it from the next town over LOL
I knew you would appreciate the music more than anyone else on here!
I love this song so much I had to use it for something, and soon after making this vid I remembered that MR. "Trashmonkey22" would appreciate it just as much as me, and I was not wrong-
The "Symphonies Of Sickness" album had some pretty good stuff on it...you had this intro to "Ruptured In Purulence" (the rest of the song was ok, but the intro was the best), and "Reek Of Putrefaction" and "Exhume To Consume" were by far the best songs on the album in my opinion...
This is actually a live version from the album "Wake up and Smell the Carcass", they play this intro and go straight into "No love lost" from Heartwork, pretty damn cool.
Yeah, I have the "Wake Up and Smell" album too, and was pretty sure that that's what version this was, but since you just had the intro, I thought I'd play it safe and say it was Ruptured In Purulence...but now that I listen to the two versions, there is a bit of difference I notice...
