just goes to show that older cars are built better than new cars. any new car would just fall apart and quit working right. those were the good ol days.
@skatepunkzero lol, what???wouldthis commercial really assure you?most of the stunts won't do anything to a car.look at the high jump.the speed and distance between the ramps were perfect for a smooth landing.same as it is in moto cross races or smth like that.and these little bumps they were driving over with one side of the car were so low that any car could take it easily.no doubt, these cars are cool but you won't stand a chance to survive in a 40mph frontal crash.
Actually, the 56 Chevy had a rather serious defect in the front suspension. Where the lower A frames (or control arms) bolt to the frame. The bolts where mounted into thin sheet metal. In 1977, my 55 Chevy totalled itself when the bolts ripped right through the sheet metal. I have seen this happen a few times on the tri 5's. In fact, Chevy knew they had a problem and on their taxi models the sheet metal was reinforced with extra steel. It's a disaster if the sheetmetal rips. Have yours modified
My dad took us back in the early 70's to see The Joe Chitwood show in Waynesboro,Va.They were in the camaro then.they put on one great show! Will never forget it.Also saw the little red wagon doing the wheelie the 1/4 mile.
Just goes to show those who think anything old is junk. Equipped right, with heavy duty components, these cars handled amazingly well. I have a '65 Impala 4 dr. ht. with factory h.d. springs/shocks (replaced as needed) and larger, non-original (B.F. Goodrich) tires & a quicker steering ratio (but original steering set-up). With no other mods, she is incredibly tight & responsive, & has no doubt surprised many an owner of a newer car.
@FURY1958 sorry to hear that man. As for the gas it's because we screw everybody over by having the dollar as the world's reserve currency along with the inherent devaluation of fiat currencies. Look up fiat currency on youtube for what I mean
@tommy35ss I'll look up for that you say. Anyway, I promised to the Gods that one day, I'll have a car like those. By the way, Happy New Year 2012!! :)
@FURY1958 Yeah happy new year to you too. When you look that up I think you will find monetary policy very interesting, it's one half of every transaction anyway. I got interested due to a very honest politician a while back, as ironic as that sounds
That was totally b****in.Those guys never even lost a hubcap!!Born and raised on tri-five Chevys,I especially enjoyed the fact that most of the cars used were the 150 or 210 series.Even with four doors,I wouldn't mind having one!!
I'd love one now ! Can you tell me what the 150 and 210 series refers to ? I'm in the UK so my knowledge on these beauties is not as good as yours. Thanks.
The 150 is the base, plain model. The 210 has more options and chrome- the middle model, then the Bel-air is the top of the line model. More options, power, chrome.
Chevrolet stopped sponsoring Joie Chitwood a few years back. That's why they stopped the show. I have some old video of Chitwood in Maine at the Winsdor Fair. Evel Knievel was insprired by Chitwood to start his career. Evel toured with Chitwood around 1979 in Mexico.
Good old days, lol.
