I'm insipied, I have one or two EyeToy games but not this. I going to the shop in few minutes to hunt this down. I bought a dance mat earlier today, by chrismas I should be in good shape.

watching this makes me become totally discusted with microsoft xbox. They are not innovate at all. @trombonekingdom The reason I say the boomerang controller is dumb is because of its design.Teiyu Goto(the man who designed the controller) said it himself that they set aside the ergonomic aspect when creating the controller. They just wanted to present an avant-garde model for the show...In other words, they set aside the players comfort for originality. To me that is dumb. And I know Nintendo didn't invent everything under the sun; but neither did Sony.

LOL the psp even today could not even come close to the sales.its a poor system. Nobody is saying that the Eyetoy is better or even comparable to the Kinect. As a gadgets enthusiast and given its retail price i'd be very disappointed if it wasn't much better. What we don't want to hear are fanboys touting controllerless motion tracking as original technology, while calling the PS Move and similar products rip-offs of the Wii!

that being said, the kinect is both controller-less and offers 3D tracking of your full skeleton. That is something compleatly different from what wii and move offer. Wii and move both offer the same thing, just with different technologies. They track your hands.
good for games? maybe not. but cool, and maybe useful outside games.
@isays One thing you're leaving out is the fact that motion capture is extremely buggy. Animation studios don't just slap skins over skeletons and leave it at that. It takes an immense amount of cleanup work after the motion capture acting is done. So to expect inferior tech to do it better is naive.
Also, move makes use of the eyetoy for body tracking, so you forgot that part. But the kinect is still an upgrade over the eyetoy though not by alot since they striped of its dedicated processor.
This is a pretty novel use of a web cam, but it doesn't really have anything to do with Kinect. Eye toy never worked very well, you needed a ton of light, lots of contrast, and dumb luck. And there is only so much you can do with just a web cam, there was no potential to go beyond simple toys.
Kinect is closer to a full-blown Hollywood-style motion capture studio where they map the actor's skeletons onto CG characters in a 3D space, but without the goofy body suits.
@digitaldud Thanks for the additional info on Kinect. I figured there was more to it than what I was hearing. I just won't be surprised if the common trend of something 'more advanced' being underappreciated due to it's slight complexity. I know we have all probably liked a video game for example that was way before it's time as far as gameplay, but was eclipsed by something that was the trend of the season.
@digitaldud incorrect, the Kinect IS NOT closer to being a full-blown Hollywood-style motion capture studio. Even full blown motion capture with the suits requires plenty of animation clean up after the motion capture is done.
The upgrades the kinect has over the eyetoy are the infrared camera and the fact that it has depth perception(multiple cameras). But since they removed the dedicated processor, it can't detect subtle movements. So it really only solves the light problem you mentioned.

The Kinect, while in fact being better somewhat in overall picture quality, (specifically due to the fact that camera qualities even on cell phones in this day and age are better than digital cameras were 4 years ago.) is still the same basic concept. but we all must remember that the only reason things of this nature are even popular is because gaming is now very main stream. @itOtakustudios: That's true, and not only that. Wii Fit and Wii Play sort of emulate Eyetoy: Play and Eyetoy: Kinect. That reminds me, I wonder when will we ever get a Eyetoy: Kinect for the PS3 with maybe Move Support, Sony needs that for PS owners that needs excercise. Sport Champions was good, and I need something along the line with EA Active 2.

Man... Microsoft copied even the name of that thing... Why can't they be more creative?? >8O I know that the PS move is a rip off of the Wii but at least they've managed to put a different name that isn't creative but still different.. Microsoft's business is about making generic products since it was founded, copying is something very common when talking about business but Microsoft just copies all the time. Nobody is saying that the Eyetoy is better or even comparable to the Kinect. As a gadgets enthusiast and given its retail price i'd be very disappointed if it wasn't much better. What we don't want to hear are fanboys touting controllerless motion tracking as original technology, while calling the PS Move and similar products rip-offs of the Wii!

that being said, the kinect is both controller-less and offers 3D tracking of your full skeleton. That is something compleatly different from what wii and move offer. Wii and move both offer the same thing, just with different technologies. They track your hands.
good for games? maybe not. but cool, and maybe useful outside games.

@isays One thing you're leaving out is the fact that motion capture is extremely buggy. Animation studios don't just slap skins over skeletons and leave it at that. It takes an immense amount of cleanup work after the motion capture acting is done. So to expect inferior tech to do it better is naive.
Also, move makes use of the eyetoy for body tracking, so you forgot that part. But the kinect is still an upgrade over the eyetoy though not by alot since they striped of its dedicated processor.

This is a pretty novel use of a web cam, but it doesn't really have anything to do with Kinect. Eye toy never worked very well, you needed a ton of light, lots of contrast, and dumb luck. And there is only so much you can do with just a web cam, there was no potential to go beyond simple toys.
Kinect is closer to a full-blown Hollywood-style motion capture studio where they map the actor's skeletons onto CG characters in a 3D space, but without the goofy body suits.

@digitaldud Thanks for the additional info on Kinect. I figured there was more to it than what I was hearing. I just won't be surprised if the common trend of something 'more advanced' being underappreciated due to it's slight complexity. I know we have all probably liked a video game for example that was way before it's time as far as gameplay, but was eclipsed by something that was the trend of the season.

@digitaldud incorrect, the Kinect IS NOT closer to being a full-blown Hollywood-style motion capture studio. Even full blown motion capture with the suits requires plenty of animation clean up after the motion capture is done.
The upgrades the kinect has over the eyetoy are the infrared camera and the fact that it has depth perception(multiple cameras). But since they removed the dedicated processor, it can't detect subtle movements. So it really only solves the light problem you mentioned.
