For Wile E.'s first appearance in a Bugs cartoon (1952), Chuck Jones decided he HAD to talk, 'mil'. So Mel Blanc, I believe, suggested the coyote sound like a "sophisticated talkative braggart", who of course, fares no better with the rabbit than dealing with the bird...

Interesting fact! Also, GENIUS on Mel's part, since it wouldn't have come across so well if Wile remained a completely "Silent" Toon. He's just pretty awesome...

Except for the sheepdog Sam guarding sheep from threats like Ralph the coyote. He's a wolf in this story, but still identical to Wile E. Coyote, but with a different name, voice, and personality. Before and after work, they are pals. Even if the whistle blows during a fight, they move on and are pals again until after they punch in the next day. lol After work, they're replaced by another dog and wolf. In 1 episode, all 4 have the same schedule. Ralph, Fred the Sheepdogs; George, Sam the wolves.

I forgot- all 4 didn't have the same schedule. 1 Sheepdog and wolf were punching out and on their way home in the beginning, while the other 2 were punching in. And in 1 episode, the sheepdog was holding the wolf off a cliff by his neck, then the whistle blew and it was lunch time. They stop what they're doing and go and eat. When lunch ends, they go back to where they left off at as friends on the way. Even the wolf is happy. Then they continue and the wolf's eyes are popped out once again. lol
