doesnt matter which was the B side...this song is badass and am so glad it was posted here...oh the kiss so alcoholic and slow, arranging me for saturday i thought you would know that i always sleep alone
@SterilizeThePopulace I love "The Walk" :) I think both songs are awesome, but I don't speak as a fan when I say that was a good decision to make The Walk a single, and making this a B-side was just the best to make honor to this very good song :) I mean, Robert might have tought that there were many new-wave songs that look alike xP Saludos!
@InvincibleIronyMan I remember thinking the same thing when I bought the 12" the cover implied that this was the title track, I was amazed to see them on TOTP performing The Walk, which to me was the weakest track on the record.
This is a great song, yes! It wasn't a mini lp just the 12" single of the walk with the fly on the cover. Noticed in the pop up bubbles one of Robert Smith's recurring middle class memes (at least from that period - lost interest in the band not too long after this): if I had a pond for every time he claomed to have had "a breakdown of sorts"... becoming knackered from months on the piss whilst writing the occassional song and applying makeup does not a "breakdown" make!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGM OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! IIIII LOOOOOOVE HIM TO DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
Had this tune in 1983 in a mini lp ,along with the walk, let's go to bed, lament...the cover was black with an ugly fly on it IIRC. still in love with this song.
Production by Steve Nye a la Japan and Tin Drum.....a great song that was on their album The Cure Singles which was like a six track mini LP.....Yes the days of vinyl...the days of hanging around as a Goth....then I grew up....got a job....brought a house etc....BUT hey I still have thick hair...even after years of using masses of hair gel/hair product!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its for me one of the rare The Cure's songs that nobody listen too much but for me is great to listen it LOUD in a boring day! It makes me feel happy!!!
As usual an awesome cure's song. It's unbeliveably good. When I listen to it, I can't stop jumping and singing foolishly in my room. I just feel as if I was climbing in the sky touching the stars through my fingers. Lyrics are sober, pure and deep. Great stuff.
This is one of the very best songs Robert and The Cure ever wrote and recorded.
I never get tired of listening to it. Very beautifully put together. I got this record back in 88 on vinyl and in 91 on cd. This is one of the essential records to have in your collection. All the songs are very good. Too bad the cure got away frome playing such a pure sound.
ah, the memories. 1984, 24 years old, making out with the love of my life...

What, The Upstairs Room was a b-side to The Walk? Why, in heaven's name, wasn't it the other way around?
InvincibleIronyMan 2 months ago 2
@InvincibleIronyMan Good question. I think "The Walk" is terrible. Plus it sounds like a total ripoff of New Order.

@spankymacfarlan Hilariously put. But hey, his LSD- and booze-induced "breakdowns" created some catchy tunes.

Steve Nye's production ala Japan is a good addition to the Cure's sound at this stage

Hands up if you think this great B-Side should have been released as an A-side instead of the Walk!

Also i like this song becouse it reflects Robert no need´s anybody to do Music:
No bass; keyboard bass (Simon Gallup no needed)
No drums; drum machine (Lol Tholurst no needed)
Only Robert Smith with his guitar and keyboard... ALONE!!!

This is simplicity becoming excellence... try to find these lyrics anywhere in the world today, impossible
