  • AT cured my back pain too, Tai Chi made it abit worse to be honest. I found it easily the best therapy. You're the first person who Ive heard didnt feel fantastic after a session- maybe you're teacher wasnt fully qualified. I guess with any therapy its the one most likely to locate (& release) your fears/tight habits which will be best to cure pain which is why I love AT.

  • I've been taking Alexander Technique lessons for nearly 3 years and it has been a wonderful experience. I'm now training to be an instructor. I think the work is fabulous, and all the instructors I have met in conjunction with this work have been lovely human beings.

  • Alexander Technique is a fucking joke. Most of the people who teach it are perverts.

guydecervens is correct, except for when he started pissing on about "energy flow" and "Tai Chi." He's just as bad as any Alexander teaching cunt.

  • "Most of the people" is a dangerous generalization, probably based on prejudice.

  • Nope, it's a simple truth. Why would you want to put your hands all over people.

  • Where from did you get such idea?

  • Tyler, touch does not equate with sex. You know that, right?

  • You have got to be joking. That really is for the worried well

  • What a scam! FM Alexander was a profound liar and charlatan, see his birth chart.Born Wynyard, Australia, January 20 1869. I have practiced Tai-Chi and martial arts for 31 years and this rigid-body style kills the energy flow. It will constrict the mind and emotions. You will probably realise this when you have spent thousands on 'teaching'. Beware! This is the creation of a very deceptive character who was the product of a British Empire mentality.

  • absolutely wrong. dont knock it till you try it, coming from somebody who has tasted the east as wellas the west.

  • This is entirely false. If you understand physiology you can see that he is trying to get the teacher to use his hands and forearms to lift the person out of the chair while releasing the shoulders. He's activating the hands before he needs to - 'end-gaining'

'End gaining' is pre-emptive use of the body - it gives away moves in martial arts!

Remember this is a teacher training a teacher - when you are dealing with prone limbs you have to be very careful.

  • He is NOT trying anything and especially not to get the teacher to lift the person out of the chair. As the trainer says, the teacher should do nothing. By doing nothing and observing, change can happen. The person ends up out of the chair, but there should be no effort at all on the teacher's part!

  • I think you've misunderstood the term 'end-gaining'. It has a particular meaning in the Alexander Technique. What you're describing is not what's happening the video. Martial arts references don't help, I'm afraid; the Alexander Technique is unique and needs to be approached on its own terms, otherwise preconceived ideas will cloud learning.

  • The Alexander Technique also requires a flow, just like Tai Chi. Obviously you had a bad teacher, there are plenty of those. You should only have somebody certified by either STAT or AmSAT and who continues their own training under their teacher.

It's not a scam, it allowed me to play guitar better than ever before.

  • That couldn't be more misconceived. 1stly, a birth chart cannot tell you who is telling the truth & who is lying. 2ndly, the 'rigid-body style' you refer to is about as far away from the AlexTech experience as it's possible to get. 3rdly, it doesn't cost 'thousands'. 4thly, linking FM Alexander with a British Empire mentality has nothing to do with the body-state the AlexTech rekindles: they're natural body states possessed by all well-functioning animals, incl. young humans until misuse sets in

  • @guydecervens

profound liar?? rigid body style?? you understand very little about alexander tech obvs

  • More videos need to be posted like this. Thank you! 3 years without a lesson, and this is much more advanced than what I experienced. I think videos like this can help us all learn, particularly those of us who cannot find an instructor near us.

  • jam, i notice that you are from italy, are you saying there are no AT teachers in italy? or just not near you?
