not sure if this was installed in the united states or not but for starters he did not torgue the lugs and the line side pipe looks like it is inside the house and thats a code violation oh and 1000 dollars for a 200 amp service he must of stole the material
@ggonz003 yeah, count how many outlets you have for each breaker, same thing with lights, then figure what size wire and what size breakers there is, then add extra circuits if needed as required
@poweredbydodge ...you might be right, I will check that point with the inspector as soon as we get final electrical inspection by the end of January 2011
And as far as torquing... I've worked with some older guys that have turned a wrench enough times to KNOW what 20 pounds or 40 pounds or 50 pounds feels like. This guy isn't one of them. And there's no way in hell that an allen wrench held backwards and turned by fingers is sufficient to achieve 20 pounds, and I would venture that meter can isn't going to call for less than 20 pounds.
@buenahomes I was referring to the connections on the meter enclosure. Local codes may say differently but I was taught to torque the lugs to manufacturer specifications. Doing so helps prevent loose connections later on. Although I don't see many taking the time to do it these days.
Because we are in California, which means that we really don't have those issues due to the weather beign very nice, we never get snow, rain is very rare and the breakers to trip-off will be rare to occur . When service panel get properly wired, those issues will never occur.
Why would/do you put the panel outside?? doesn't it make more sense to have it somewhere inside the home?? I really wouldn't want to go outside during a storm/winter/anything, just to reset a breaker.
Yeah! you charged the homeowner $2500.00...and hired Juan for $1,000 labor and material to install..not bad for a days work.

@ggonz003 maybe its over loaded, you need to add more circuits to compenate for the extra load.

"Should not cost you more than $1,000.00"? No way, Jose.
My 200 amp services cost $2500.00 and we sell a lot of them.
Not everyone wants to settle for Taco Bell dinner, some of us want to eat at the Outback Steakhouse. Hmmm steaks!

@ClassicElectricNJ Dude you can get a 220a. combo panel for $79 + brkrs. The damn riser costs almost as much, but $2500 is steep.
