After others have heard it and wondered about the "other parts", I knew it must be some kind of medley, but I did not know the names of the other tunes. I will have to check that out. Thanks.
i hear "johnny cope" in there! part of the medley from your lp? look it up, "hey johnny cope are you walkin' yet, are your drums a beatin' yet, if you were walking iwould wait, tae gang tae the coles in the morning"
Nice and tuneful. More variation than I have previously heard ...you can get thet in a purely aural tradition or in a mixed aural/ manuscript/ published version milieu.
Thanks for the comment of the music and the facial expression advice. Such double observations seem to be the norm with most who seem me playing here on this site. I have to admit I am not looking too "friendly" here (I may be giving one the wrong impression of myself) I often think it would have been better to have posted the works without video. It seems that people are often more prone to be influenced by visuals than they are by the music itself. It is interesting how peoples' minds think.
There is a slight smile, at the very end, that may not be enough to get some people through the day, but it should be sufficient to say that I am not a complete sad-sack. I also could use a mild hair transplant, as well. Usually I am able to cover that up, but it was about 90 degrees in the place I was recording so I am starting to look haggard. Perhaps that is why I am not smiling? Listen to the music (without) the visuals, and see if you can not hear smiles all over the place!
NIce job! You are including some parts I have never heard in the song before -- are these your embellishments or is the original version of the song more varied than we usually hear? That is a simple A & B part song? Anyway great video!
You have asked a most important questions when it comes to the art of fiddle playing. There are many "versions" available of the tune and some are considered as the "right" one (Buddy MacMaster's version is a prime example ) The version I present is one I learned by ear from an old LP many years ago. It would seem, after hearing the LP again, that time (and some bad habits) have crept into the tune. This is how "oral tradition" works regionally and many tunes evolve through additional strains.
Indeed and that is the beauty of it. I like the parts and might just try to steal a bit of it and then pass that on -- and so it goes........thanks for the comment. I agree also about the "old" sound and as well lighting you have gives the feeling of a Dutch masters painting of another time -- nice touch.
Nicely done. Your playing is great - on all of your videos. To learn from an LP - did you transcribe the tune first, or learn by ear ? Thanks for posting !
I just started violin and your playing is just what I was looking for. Very nice! Now if I can just get you to play every single note as a half note, I've got a chance of keeping up! lol
Sorry i didnt mean to be rude.Just saying you really do like terrifying at the start.I mean you didnt smile or anything and your eyes ook scary.Nice job though.Lol.
Apology accepted. I did remove the original comment you made due to the nature of the opening sentence. It was very vulgar, but as you are young (but of the age of reason) you will hopefully learn what should be said and what should not. Think of how you would feel if someone did it to you and I can guarantee you will think twice about commiting the error again. One can take back ill comments, but one cannot help how one looks. YT is overrun with posters who are rude. Be better than that.
Well, you're right. Johnny Gimble is one fiddler who always seems to be having fun. I myself look as though I am undergoing a simultaneous colonoscopy when I play.
*shrug* It's hard to remember to smile when you're concentrating really hard on the sound. My mother and all my teachers tell me (and come to that, everyone else) 'Smile! It's not that hard!' Of course, you don't notice you're not smiling until someone tells you because you're busy concentrating. :D Whoops, speechified there...
I'd agree with that. I play the flute but my eyebrows still knit together when I'm trying to concentrate on what I'm doing (so I look a little angry at my sheet music). People have all sorts of 'default' expressions when they're into the music.
Splendid music! I must say you are a very handsome man. :)

I've seen photographs of fiddlers smiling, but none of them taken while they were actually playing. I think they generally look intent.
