She must have known that it all ended in 1956 for the British as it had ended in 1948 for the Dutch, in 1960 for the Belgians, in 1962 for the French and in 1975 for the Portuguese. With regards to the Dutch and Portuguese, these ceased to be important world powers at the end of the 18th century. Belgium was never important. Britain and France are in a different league altogether.
