  • Ruth Wilson and Benedict Cumberbatch kissing? Okay I'm just gonna die of happiness now, bye-bye...

  • RUTH AND BENEDICT AJAUDGAHKF

  • benedict cumberbatch <3

  • the show and book are so underrated!

  • One of the best books I've ever read! The book is a must read people!

  • Naomie Harris is so beautiful and she is such a wonderful actress, very versatile.

  • The author of the novel gave a speech at my University graduation, and alluded to some of the themes in Small Island. I haven't read the book yet, but I loved this BBC production. There was great chemistry amongst the cast and the acting was universally brilliant.

  • This is a beautiful series. I fell in love with it almost instantly. I plan on reading the books one day. :)

  • The best miniseries by masterpiece classic EVER!!! love it!!!!

  • @csno1

I can't help but feel you somehow missed the point of this series...

  • @csno1

It's a great pity that you probably don't realise how wrong you are

  • @farrog likewise.

  • Benedict!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) x

  • The book is rivetting and brilliant. I did not know it had been dramatized. I hope the dramatization lives up to the scenes my imagination creaated ( which it seldom does ! )..... but I will give it a go !

  • BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH!!!!!

  • @IsThisLife09

    are we youtube stalking benedict?

    may i join you? :D

  • @thicketwings05 You most certainly can! But where to start?! haha xD

  • @IsThisLife09 well all it comes down to is searching the suggestions bar on the right for anything with benedict in it isnt it? aha

  • @thicketwings05 Such a thing as that is a daily occupation for me! And it also NEVER gets boring.

    EVER :D

  • @thicketwings05 I too might join this little Cumberfest! :)

  • This film has me awwing already and I've only seen the trailer.

  • Good movie but AWFUL AWFUL Jamaican accents.

  • this was a good film or movie or something

    i watched it on thirteen

  • anybody know what is the music at the start of it??

  • @rma1276 "Somewhere Over the rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

  • does anybody know where to get the soundtrack..the theme music is lovely?

  • Im annoyed on bbc iplayer this show used to be up and now they've taken it down. so i can no longer watch it, so i've only seen half of it :(

  • for the first time i've seen jamaica on bbc and dont have to crinch .. plus my work mates didnt have to make negative comments the next day..loved it, want more

  • Can someone please tell me the name of the song that forms the background to the trailers for this series? I love it and i really want to find it!! Thank you!!! xxx

  • it was somewhere over the rainbow by israel kamakawiwo'ole!

  • @LaBeave44 It's 'Somewhere over the rainbow' but I don't know from who this version is. Original is from Judy Garland from 1939 from the movie 'The Wizard of Oz'.

  • It is Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole'

i like this song so much :)

  • Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

You may have heard it at the end of the film 50 First Dates.

  • @Blacknarcissa as much as i like the song and the message it represents, it has been a pretty much overused soundtrack: meet joe black, er (tv series) and yes, 50 first dates and a film with sean connery and this... i really appreciate and know why this song is used often. :)

  • I can't see this show because I live in America and I really want to see it!

  • I was thinking the same thing! Now Im sad :(

  • It will be shown on your local PBS station in April - on the 18th and the 25th... "Masterpiece Classics"

  • bbc certainly didn't disappoint! i fell completely in love with the series, it was so touching and bittersweet and i was so happy that bernard and queenie got their sort of happy ending, it made the whole story so realistic.

  • is it just 2 parts to it i mean is that it

  • I thoroughly enjoyed Small Island. A lot of it was reminiscent of the stories my parents told me about their settlement in England. They made the journey with high hopes and imagined open arms and they found that they were unwelcome but desperate to give it a go and not give up. Pity about the lack of authentic Jamaican actors or accents because I found the fraudulent patois very off-putting, but on the whole, a really good drama.

  • They could of been alot worse off. My granddad was in the Italian army and got captured by the british and sent off as a prisoner and got used as slave labour for nearly seven years. When he got released he had nothing to go home for and the Cammorra was retaliating against those who worked for the facists. Nobody would give him a decent job or rent him a decent place he had to build his own house in the end. All the while people here were calling him names and telling him to go home.

  • I don't watch drama on TV as a rule but this was well worth it!

  • Gibert: Hingland.

    Haaaaaaaaaa love him!

  • I just saw this...and I'm in love with it...reminds me of my own heritage and country's history. For me it's a reminder that one should be proud of their ancestry. Long story short: we never know the sacrifices our ancestors made. It's not fair to them or to us...to forget.

  • i loved this programme. really touched me. ruth wilson was fantastic in it :) it was all very bitter sweet. makes me look at my own mixed relationship and think how far things have come now and i hope only continue to improve and racial barriers can be totally diminished. Reading some peoples comments on here..goes to show how ignorant people can be, keep your opinions to yourself.

  • Piss off ninxoon30,take your prejudiced thoughts with you.

  • I loved this show, is the book any good?

  • the audio cd is the best, read the book too, but cd is better, you can make your own pictures without having to look

  • colonial discipline and bible whorshipping was crass back in the day.I prefer my lifetime.

what is up with those producers hiring ashely walters though.this dude cannot act to save his life. His skills have not improved one bit since that ghetto indie flick he was casted in a few years ago.

  • loved this drama, cant wait for next episode. was interesting for me cos i love this time in history and my grandparents experienced this kind of treatment when they came over from the west indies x

  • I am not a dog, so I have no race. I am a human and so is every human. I loved this book. made me cry and think a lot. I am gratefull that times have changed, but sad, that there are still ppl like

ninxoon30. welcome to the year 2009!!!!

  • An absolutely brilliant production. Excellent drama, exceptional actors. Cant wait for next week. Well done BBC. As to those comments on inter-races...look at history many in the carribean are decended from inter-race relationships, master - white, servantgirl black, resulting child - a mulato. Not necessarily a love match! Nowadays who cares? Roll on next Sunday

  • Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole 'IZ' 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'

  • I have just seen Part 1 and it is amazing! A wonderful drama, right up there with BBC's best. Hope it is uploaded on yt!

  • whats the name of the song in the background?

  • you have issues.

  • U neet to seek psychological help. U hae a disease

  • Can't wait for this. Read the book in English Lit in College.

  • If two people of different races want to marry who are you to say that it is wrong and there is nothing in the Bible that says two people of different races can not or should not marry and fyi Guess Whose Coming for dinner is from 1967. It's closed minded people like you who make it hard for interracial couples.

  • So u r using the Bible to make your arguement? lol Well, in the bible, slavely is condomed. There was no censure against slavery, so would u say the bible is reliable?I am not a racist, but i do feel we should not be so blind to reality. Birds of same feathers flock together.

  • You may want to widen out. It will help you see that we are not all that different no matter what the skin color. So who cares if we inter marry.

  • slavely is condomed?

  • ninxoon, you poor, blind fool. I do feel sorry for you; especially for any children you may have. You must be very proud.

  • im from a mixed race family and i understand where youre coming from but why should the colour of our skin hold us back in life? and i thought God created the two people and their appearances changed depending on where they lived in the world..

  • @ninxoon30 If you read the bible you would know that Moses married a black woman. Unfortunately, you don't that's why you are making ignorant statements.

  • @daveibukun mmmm, in both our book and our resources he married a daughter of another Prophet from the north..

  • @DomesticGoddess1

Thanks for the info.. Im an extra in it so gotta keep an eye out!

  • I'm the child from a interacial marriage mate

And yes my parents have gone through a lot but they pulled through

These days anyway it's a lot easier than it was then. if you love someone then it doesn't matter what they are.

You need to be a bit more tolerant

  • Shut up you racist.

It's a narrative which is ostensibly criticised as being too historically accurate by many, so your issue is that it reminds you too much of your own prejudiced concepts.

If i were you I'd deal with it, once you move has dogmatically adhered too concepts of race you'll find pretty much everyone outside of isolated undiscovered tribes the world over has an interracial as you put it past.

Biology will tell you Mammals breed.

    Deal.

  • @ninxoon30 Weirdo. Everyone's human, you realize?

  • Interesting...

  • Can someone tell me what the name of the song is??

  • Isreal Kamamawiwo'ole - Somewhere over the Rainbow

  • Just found it :D

Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole 'IZ' 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' played on the Ukulele.

  • i was came here to ask, cheers for posting who it was but......

what on earth part of that would i type into youtube to find it lol?

  • jeez, someone market that reply as spam lol, and thanks, i found it after a long search . but his "wonderfull world" is impossible to find agggggg lol.

  • Spam? Goodness me. I don't care for profile views, I thought it would just be the simplist way for you to find the song. Enjoy!

  • i guess people can be very cynical,

and thank you,i cant stop listening to it : )

  • Same here!

  • It's coming on 6th December I think. My mum produced it.

  • Written by my favourite author, looking out for it like mad! It looks well executed and waiting in anticipation for it.. make fast and show us nuh!

  • Does anyone know when the show will be aired? Website says coming soon but really want to know

  • Sunday 6th Dec 2009
