oh the 351w is definitely a more desireable motor, the 400m isnt very good for any high rpm anything. Its a torque monster though. The fords driveshaft lasted 2 of 3 pulls, so the driveshaft wasnt much of a factor. But you are right about the 400m, terrible motor in my eyes, Its only a torque monster because of the cranks inertia, thats all.
A 400M is not a desirable motor. I think it has huge crankshaft journals and a really long stroke.
Makes a nice powerplant for a station wagon, but I'd much prefer a 351C or even a Windsor over a 400. You can do so much more with it.
Was this a better powerplant for Chevy, or just a really pathetic drive shaft for Ford? Seems like Ford drive shafts always do this in these tug-of-wars. Different story with a suitable driveshaft?
we thought about trying that, but the coil went bad at the end of the pull, so not only could he not start it, but with all of the cranking he did he put quite a bit of fuel in the oil. He did change the oil before he got it running again though.
i liked the 400m's but i would've never bothered rebuilding it, he would've been better off going to a 351w-especially the early ones. i've had both (still have my '73 351w and it is far superior to any of those 335-series. no offence to 351-400m owners
All i have for a toy hauler is a 1990 dodge ram 150. 5.2l v8. My dad said he is planning on getting a welder engine lift. And hopefully some time soon he is gonna help me drop the 318 magnum in thats from his 1992 dodge dakoto he totaled when it was snowing
