in all fairness the R1 did not get a nice launch and either way that GPz would have given it a run...those were sub-10 second bikes out of the box! great video tho
I've got a 750 turbo and can confirm that it sounds better and kicks the arse of most it come in contact with! But I must confess I once raced a modern fireblade and it literally left me standing!I still can't believe it because I was nailing every gear to the maximum and it just pulled away like I was actually standing still!I'm getting mine bored out and a modern turbo fitted it should take the bhp from the wheel up from 107 to 140-45!and thats enough to INSURE!I spank the arse off ANYTHING!!
I had one WITHOUT a turbo, and thought it was too much. 200hp; one can only imagine. I want a new R1,'tho. The new cross-plane 4cyl. 90 degree crank let's it hookup, and the new chassis gives feedback before limit of adhesion is reached in the turns. I think the R1 is insanely fast, as far as useable power and handling. See: youtube.com/watch?v=XihQeZpwqpE this guy is also insane (like me, LOL)
Turbo pilot got a much better start. Still, the R1 didn't appear to be making up much ground once it got going. A pipe, $40 boost controller, and several other minor mods will squeeze somewhere around 130 rear wheel HP from the old dinosaur.
I had an 06 R1 and an 84 kawi turbo, the kawi was a fast bike but the R1 was alot faster and handled better. but u can mod the 750 turbo to a 200hp bike
i wish i could show some of the smacked asses this video when they refuse to believe that my 20 yr old+ bikes can hang with their new shit and I don't need to buy a new one when it's funnier to beat you with my old kaws
gpz 750 turbo was the first bike released in australia to run a 10 second pass over the quarter so its performance is by no means lacking.this is probably r1 territory but you would want a good rider to crack a10.not bad for nearly thirty years apart.love old school muscle
i think the r1 one ridder could have done better the 750 turbo was fast i had one but its not going to walk an r1 like that most raceses depends on the ridder
ahh! brings back memories when i had my in 1990,hope to get kawaka turbo in the near future, to rekindle my thrills, great vid,it looks like the kawka won ,did it?
ITS ALL ABOUT THE START YOU GET...ops sorry... the R1 guy was asleep.....

Me gusta.
I've got one of these 750turbos.
Deactivated eight years ago and hope to get it back on the road next weeks.
But it's not possible to fight against modern bikes except on the dragstrip. ;)

That GPz is friggin' impressive, that's for sure. Curious to know what kind of work was done to it.

The guy with the R1 is accelerating wrong , i know that the R1 can easily beat the kawasaki if it is a stock gpz turbo !!

Both great bikes, but the GPZ 750 Turbo is really something special. A collector's item.

Whatever the outcome of the drag race, the GPz looks so much better than the somewhat generic R1.
