  • that's very cool and interesting..

  • how do name progrram

  • Wheres it at, let me download!

  • No no no, if he was high he would have gotten the concept right away

  • Is this possible to get? Where would I find this? I assume since this was made in 2006, they have made many updates and probably released the product.

  • i want to have this

  • I wish that guy filming can learn to speak.

  • what came first?

  • and people say Microsoft doesn't innovate *rolls eyes*

  • ms surface was the only innovative product, and they didn't invent the surface itself they just invented some of the software ideas on it

  • you are watching the technology that we saw in the movie Minority report and was responsible for inspiring multitouch, etc. Considering that it is set some 50 years from now, this software is quite cool

  • MINKIA

  • This guy asking questions is totally tech clueless and waay to excited.

He sounds like my 55 year old mom ten years ago asking me how I sent an email.

    He's got to be high...

  • Agreed

  • he's asking questions from the perspective of you or I.

  • No he's genuinely retarded excited.

  • Speak for yourself. I kinda already knew there wasn't a guy under the table, and no I don't see anyone doing surgery using only two points of reference.

  • but it would be cool if surgery could be done remotely, by a surgeon using hand tracking to operate robotics, this would mean that if there was emergency need for a surgeon but there wasn't one, a surgeon on the other side of the world could do it.

although this is wishful thinking it is possible.

  • Oh telepresence is no joke, don't get me wrong, but that's not what this is. Already we can enable a surgeon to be far more dexterous with a pair of robot hands by scaling up vision while scaling down have movement.

Imagine goggles and gloves that make the flea look and feel like a basketball.

But that's not what this is. Telepresence must be 3d and tactile. This is more document, and data sorting.

  • this is great but is that the last word M$ has to offer in terms of a reliable OS?

this is a feature you can add to any platform regardless of the OS in use, which buys great credit for this gentleman who's done this project and surely some credit for M$ to sponsor the project but it barely helps the problems related the Windows OS and its variants.

  • An INFOCOM shirt! I want that shirt! Where do I get one?

  • Very kool microsoft/~awilson. It is very impressive the things that you folks are able to do with Java these days! ;^)

  • Can you do this with a regular white keyboard instead of a black one you used for the demonstration?

  • That dude sounds like George Lucas.

  • top that mac

  • notice how a little box pops up. It is google desktop making a email alert. Even microsoft employees use google desktop instead of microsoft search. kind of funny

  • this guy is a genius.. check out some of his other work:

research dot microsoft dot com /~awilson/

  • excellent work! looking forward to seeing the software available as a download soon - i'd pay $30 - $50 for it.

  • Wow that guy is seriously a d-bag i wish he would have edited his voice out

  • This is really interesting... but the mouse is a very effective way to control your interaction with the computer. I can't imagine using that method to play FPS.

Now, it could become very useful when the software interaction is *also* upgraded.

  • Yeah, like a 3D desktop! Like you have to reach to get some icon. That'd be so cool!

  • The Microsoft natural ergonomic 4000... amazing keyboard... im lost without it.

  • coolio, want to buy

question to you: what keyboard is that? and trackball?

    thanks for your responds =)

  • it ll be a great work ;)

how could we do the process of clicking on the icons just by pushing our forefinger on the screenso that we wouldn't need a mouse anylonger!

  • a SURGER?!? cool software, though.

  • The guy asking the questions is a douche

  • BIG TIME. Sounds like a dumbass.

  • To recognize shapes and count them determine their orientation, etc maybe takes about 30 lines of OpenCV code. This is neat but this is not exactly mindblowing by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Hard to see how this is better than a mouse most of the time. Better to just wear a small wireless ring on your finger that is pinched and tracked my a sensor and get mouse quality movement and reliability.

  • It differentiates from the foreground and background. You have to have something as a dedicated background which is why he is using the keyboard. Though this is cool, you are basically creating a virtual mouse with your hands. This is not like pointing the camera toward you and manipulating the stuff directly on the screen. It more of a vicarious movement.

  • the commentator's fuckin retard

  • Yeah - it is the dawn of the gestural interface. I wonder how badly M$ will screw it up. True what the guy above said. At least it isn't Apple - they would charge triple the price regardless.

  • hack? i doubt it. is this a couple lines of nasty code? no, it more like a very complex algorithm that has been tweak to do this demo very nicely.

this is NOT a hack, except for maybe in this guy's eyes.

  • I think he's calling it a hack because it's not coded in a "clean" way--as he briefly mentioned, some factors ignored, whereas for a commercial implementation the code would be carefully written and thoroughly tested to eliminate any possible glitches or inaccuracies.

  • Whoa now, wait a minute. This is Microsoft we're talking about. Glitches and bugs are often called "undocumented features."

  • Yo genius, link to a site where its for sale, time for a new millionaire to retire before age 30.

this is HUGE, it will be on the news within 2 weeks!!

  • Like he said, it is a brilliant hack. If he hooks up with Jeff Han they could do some crazy shit.

  • 30$ + Software. Period.

If they were Apple inc. they would make it work only with branded cameras for 500$. And charge you 100$ for every upgrade.

  • fuck yes

  • Wow, that's awesome!! I want the software!

  • cool, I wonder if we will be able to play some games like FPS with this software :P

  • That's beautiful.
