This was one of the very first late movies i was allowed to stay up and watch with my parents (i was probably around 8yrs old) a classic along with The Boy In The Plastic Bubble
I'll never forget the first time I saw this in a theatre. A girl in the row behind me BURST into loud tears when the scene went from the father getting the news of the boyfriends death to Marilyn Hassett weeping.
This is one of the best songs Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel ever wrote. I'll never forget the first time I saw this in a theater. The girl behind me burst into tears at the moment when the camera cuts to Marilyn Hassett's reaction to the news of Dick Bueks death. An incredibly uplifting and beautiful film and score.
Heartbreaking. The love of her life killed in a plane crash! it's the all time tear jerker alright. I looked up her bio to see where she'd be today. There's a school named in her honor. what a remarkable woman!! her life is a tribute to courage and vision in the face of tragedy
I really wish this movie was out on DVD, I haven't seen it in years but I'll never forget it. My favorite quote "How lucky I am to have known someone and something that saying goodbye to is so damn awful".
This was such a great picture. So sad! I remember as a little kid crying my eyes out when she was able to pick up the little portion of the potato chip. Remember that?
oh my gosh, I hadn't thought of this movie in ages. When I was 12 years old in 1976, I remember seeing this at our local small town theater. It was especially powerful for my friends and I, as a girl in our school had just suffered a cheerleading accident that left her a quadraplegic. I think this should get the award for the all time tear jerker. Who could watch this without shedding a tear. Oh, anyone know if Jill Kinmont is still alive?
She still teaches grade school, she's approx. fifty-one, and is married to John Boothe. Just go to "Google," type in "Jill Kinnmont," it should bring-up her biography.

I just saw this movie for the first time two days ago...beautiful! It gives people like me who're in wheelchairs hope and the strength to go on living life! Defnitely one of my favorite movies now!
It was actually a theatrical release, as was the sequel, but they both play like made-for-tv movies. I saw it the weekend it opened and it was one of the first times I cried in a movie theatre.
This movie is my all time favorite movie. No movie has ever matched what it did to me emotionally. I was 10 the first time I watched this movie. I love reading all the posts of people this movie touched.
Not long ago I ran into Marilyn Hassett in the grocery store and we spoke of this film. She still stays in touch withl Jill Kinmont and was as beautiful as ever. I told her that THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN was the greatest movie made on the subject of quadriplegics. It is a movie too important to be forgotten.
Magnifique!
I saw this movie in 1975 when I was ten years old and I boo hooed! It touched my heart so its a classic to me. I learned from this film what love is. I still find it impossible not to cry during this film today. Its very heart warming. It's been a favorite of mine for years. She endured much pain in her life and I assume it has made her a stong person. I have much admoration for her courage. What a lovely lady.
This movie was about my cousin(jill)...I still think this clip is the most tear-jerking moment in cenima history(everyone in the theater was audibly crying...i have never seen anything like that since)
I saw this movie 30 years ago and I am looking for the DVD. If someone finds it please please please infor me too - love to get my hands on it. Performance unlimited

She would have to be older than 51, she had the accident in 1956, which was 52 years ago. I am guessing near 70 if she is still alive.

As of February 2008, Jill is 72 and still alive and well.

Exceptionally done made-for-tv movie. The story gets me every time.
My Mother's family is from the same area.. She skiied with Jill once, shortly before the accident..
Such a powerful story.
Thank you for this!

I remember watching this movie on TV many years ago and crying like a baby... But, can someone remind me what it was about?
313pookie313 4 years ago
It's the true story of an Olympic caliber skier Jill Kinmont, who was paralyzed in a skiing accident and her struggle to adjust to life afterwards.
