The kit lens(18-55mm) is not "dinky", its a great lens for macro also, and if 240$ is half off of what u paid for that lens, u deffinitley got ripped off, i got the same lens when i bought my dslr and i only paid 200$
I'm thinking about buying my first DSLR and at Jessops they are doing a deal where you get the Canon 450D, 18-55mm lens and this lens all for £549. Normally it would cost you £749 and the deal saves you £200 but I don't know whether to go for it or not, do you have any suggestions?
@Tinewashere Well, it depends what you plan on doing. Are you taking the photos just for the sake of taking photos. Or, are you a serious photographer that plans on using them. It really depends, this lens is good for the average consumer not looking for anything spectacular, not for a serious photographer.
I have been using this lens for months now. I do not shoot sports but some wildlife. It seems to do ok and most of all i like the idea that i can upgrade my body with this lens. The 18-55 mm is not a POS. Its just as usefull or more usefull then the 300. those the kit gives you the ef-s not ef. anyways I have been happy with this 75-300 ef 1:4-5.6 III.
Dude, this is a great lens, though large in appearance it is light weight, and has always given me crisp images. It is almost as great as the L Series and our tanks the Omni Series. But this lens was not intended for sports... the F/ is to slow. I also suggest a better body (no offense to any 450D or Rebble/Xs/Xsi users) so you could take full advantage of the Full Frame Sensor with this Lens. Anyway, nice choice!
" It is almost as great as the L Series" no it isn´t. It has nothing to do with a L series lens. i have a 70 200 f2,8 is L and it is just a looooooooooot better, faster, and it is a L lens. If you have a full frame camera, you wouldn't like to use the slow poor image quality 70 300 f4 5,6....
You will be much much happier with a 70 200 f4 l...
dude i said "almost" i didn't say it was like. Also I have your 70-200 f/2.8 L series and yes i prefer my L series to my other lenses. Either way... back to the topic I actually get great images out of the 75-300 f/4-5.6...
no since it is a canon series lense you will have to use a nikon/nikkor lense because the mount used to hold the lense on is manufacturer specific unless you buy a third party lens
how does it do at night when pointing at direct light? do u get those lens burns or aversions? Please let me know. thx, good review by the way!

Do you live in Vancouver Brad? I'm looking for a store who sells used canon ef lenses.

mINE is IS version...anyway
if i don´t have the 70 200 i would take great images with a 70 300, but not as great as if was taken by the 70200f2,8is.
;D

this is not a fast lens , and it is not for sports , so if you intended to get some good sports glass , dont get this lens.
