HaHa awesome! i raised 2 eastern grey squirrels from 3 weeks old, a brother and sister. They are about 8 months old now and have been free for 3 months, they choose to stick around and make a nest 20 feet from my house. They come to me when i call em just like a dog and have turned out to be the koolest wild pets ever! the fact they stick around lets you know your loved... =)

what am i supposed to do with these very young squirrels that were sitting in my driveway helplessly??? I have them in a box. they are very small, eyes open though and alert, but seem to be very vulnerable.

@markbhoward Please contacts your local animal control or a Squirrel recsue center if there is one near you. Do not try to feed them anything as cow/ goat and such milk can greatly harm them and if fed wrong may cause fluid to go into their lungs. Contact someone who will be capable of caring for them and later releasing them. DO NOT do it your self. Although your kindness to the animals is greatly appreciate. Good luck.

@iggywasapiggy while i was gone.... the rest of the family called some animal people, who said they are weaned and we can feed them apples or whatever, I wasn't there for that part of the story. Anyway, we are keeping them in the garage where many squirrels run around our attic all the time (much to my annoyance). The kids are growing attached already.. so we will probably have our own squirrel as pet video soon enough.

@markbhoward i agree with iggwasapiggy. that is the best thing to do. however, is the mother alive? if so i would just put them close to where they live and she will most likely come back for them. animal mothers are SUPER reliable on returning to get their young. : )

We took care of a orphaned baby squirrel once; fell quite in love with it. It drank kitten formula, but it began to grow week. We called Ohio Squirrel Rescue (Sarah) and she was quite helpful. It needed a supplement (Calcium tablet I think) and then it just flourished. She also helped us to transition it to the wild. It had become quite fond of us too and did not want us to leave it. It would crawl up our legs or any other humans for that matter. Tipper ( his name) was very friendly.

it is kind of you to raise this little one, but If this squirrel is meant for release (and all healthy squirrels need to be back in the trees), it should not be used to domestic pets, because it will be its death sentence when it is released. A very lg number of sqs become injured or killed by cats and dogs. Squirrels should not be raised thinking that dogs and cats are friends. In fact, rehabbed squirrels that have no fear of dogs and cats are considered non-releasable.
