  • ed r+ optical - the benchmark for d+b . steppa neuro-funk. see our video response for another classic :jonny l's "lets roll" as a tasty soundtrack to our our video project..

  • DARK AND HAUNTING MUSIC TO CRIPPLE YOUR BRAIN

  • I still have this on vinyl. My fav DnB album ever.

  • If I didnt know this was from 1998, Id've put this at about the last couple of years, production wise is way ahead of there time. there's a reason I love ed rush and optical and this track is why. it just hands you an imagination into a world beyond, this stuff is as unearthly as it gets.

  • 7:43-7:45 - WTF NICE SAMPLE

  • I remember instantly falling in love with this when i heard Andy C play it on his Kiss 100 show back in 98! What a intro! and this tune is just bad bad bad!

  • 4 people don't know what real D&B is...

  • love this album. good stuff

  • devilish ! massive tunee n massive respect to the rush

  • A huge inspiration. I can't believe this was from 1998. Why doesn't current d&b have this much creativity?

  • raw to the core!!!!! i know thats a cheesy thing to say but this tune is!!

  • TUNE!

  • Ahaha, so dark and sinister, just takes me away.....

  • can anyone tell me the difference between techstep and neurofunk?

  • @Voitzify I can't really remember what techstep is, but if Ed Rush and Optical are meant to be like it then I'd say that Neurofunk uses punchier, less clicky-clacky drums and not necessarily harder but more growling and "hairy" bass. If you want pretty much the typical Neurofunk sound then look no further than Phace and Misanthrop's "From Deep Space" album, but also check out Noisia, Spor, Black Sun Empire etc. :D

  • @jaMMerZzz764 hm ok i think i see what you mean. thanks : D

  • The surround sub just can't handle it. Sick bass!!!!!

  • best intro to any DNB tune in my opinion. this was the peak of drum n bass, from around 97 to 2001...there were so many big tunes.

  • old DnB was the best! takes me back...

  • this track still owns

  • goosebumps from the intro, says something about this one

  • wormhole stood out even back in the day. now it looks truly inspired. minimalism in all its glory AND NO FUCKIN SHITTY SYNTHS

  • and Ed Rush & Optical said: Let there be neurofunk. And neurofunk was made.

  • The should teach these newcomers how to do DNB....

    UK 4LYFE!!

  • MY SECOND FAV ALBUM OF ALL TIME(WORMHOLE)...ONLY BEHIND MODUS OPERANDI BY PHOTEK.....

  • Wormhole.... setting standards since 98

  • This whole album is INCREDIBLE.

  • @Drewmachine

    Yeah it is, bro.

I've never been more ready for an army of machines to take over my life, lol.

ER & O ruled the genre. So dirty!

  • @

the scene isn't worth supporting any more, fuckers deserve to be stolen from for the shit they make now.

  • FOOOUUUL . Remember this bad mutha fucka

  • These days simplicity like this wont get signed this easy, sadly ...

Except, of course, if it's from big artists.

  • what a rolller .. check contact by conflict . on hardware armageddon album . .. big up no u turn crew .. renegade soldiers 4ever

  • optical was a drummer

  • gr8 stuff...

  • That dark bass and that high pitch sound at the beginning sound like a wicked interstellar virus on it's way to earth

    GREAT TRACK!!!!!

  • Ahhhhhh gotta love the beehive

  • the good 'ol days

  • Epic!

  • im lovin this disc xx

  • Yes, yes, yes... This is pretty much as good as it gets.

  • WORMHOLE is for me one of the best drum'n'bass album of all the times,I have it in double cd and I love to listen it every week!Rezpekt!

  • SICK TUNE

    Flight fmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • this tune here made me a fan of the ed rush and the optical. uniqueness. nobody can imitate ther sound. nobody

  • i've been having this track stuck in my head for years... awesome!

  • Man, just think how the simplicity of the drums can produce such a MAD beat. This IS music.

Just as 'MrWillsim' stated, the drums sound exactly like a live kit.

  • @megabacon23 .. i actually used to sit on my drums and play to all my dnb stuff . neighbors werent happy , so had to use metal coathangers as sticks and that killed it lol . often the neurofink dnb has a live kit feel i find

  • WORMHOLE was a benchmark in Drum and Bass progression

  • its what made me realize how bad ass dnb can be

  • @sheatye WORMHOLE is a nice n easy way to travel in space n time :)) :)

  • @sheatye .. damn right , dark , funky , raging tunes .. so good i bought the vinyl twice .. albiet at over twice the price second time round !

  • Amazing - only word for it!

  • Pioneers

  • ed rush & optical are the autentic drum & bass

  • The drums are like a live kit! Top tune one of the best on Wormhole, mind they are all class

  • beats on this are frightening, so ruff.

  • such a dope track. the tunes these guys were pointing out at the time and the stuff Matrix was doing then too is still so much better than stuff now a days.

ed rush + optical - wormhole and matrix - sleepwalk the two best dnb albums of all time IMO.

  • what about Concussion? From decoder.

Because while i think Ed, Optical and Matrix were hot and that wormhole was a big album, it seems to me that Wormhole was a bit repetitive. The beats and atmosphere,

a bit short and heavily looped. not much variation going on.

    JMO.

  • I have to revisit concussion. I really dig Decoder's earlier stuff on hardleaders like fog and some other joints I can't remember the names now and his kosheen work but if memory serves the concussion album sounded pretty samey like your comment but I will go back through my vinyl and pull that album to listen too again.

  • I agree that fog and that stuff, the earlier stuff was hot.

But def revisit Concussion. I only mention it, because it was one of the few albums that drew me into Drum N Bass in the first place.

Even back in those days, Concussion was a classic, just like Wormhole and Source Direct's Stuff.

  • @mrdrastic you would have to be more precise with your observation cause d&b in itself is supposed to be repetitive, as most dance music is. I think that this album was ahead of its time.

  • My got. This old tunes are so beatifull. I wish to born earlier to feel this good times on my own skin...

  • The goosebumps that came over me...fucking takes me back...such a tune!!

  • absolutly oldskool !!! come in Ed & OP !!! very n1 tune !!!

  • worm hole is the bench mark in my opinion.

It has so much weight to its self,

yet it leaves enough room for a dj to mix and run other tracks over it!

These days it seems drum and bass is so full of (fat sounds) there is no room for mixing thus killing the art of the live set.

    ie pendullum

  • A full sounding track means it's well produced, unlike those "mixable" tracks that are missing something and seem to be done in two hours for party people who have no clue about music production.

  • god i love this fucking track, soooooooo good. that twitchy sound is bomb.

  • yes boys big tune now and for ever good tunes never die

  • future cut made a track called 20/20 which sounds a lot like this

  • 20/20 is a fantastic tune! one of the best

  • Great tune and such a good memories from this 1. Really good vibes and groove. Good tune to listen for a change to this modern DnB overdrived reese bass madness. I am forced to give 5 stars for an ol´ times sakes.

  • there should be a remix of this one.

sounds pretty sweet, but cant remember the remixer.-_-

  • remixed by gridlok, both are classic

  • not the best ed rush tune ive heard but i can jam to it heard compound a long time ago now

  • that intro is discusting. massive tune

  • this got style!

  • 2:28 Drop oh yes!!!!!!!!!

  • great drum and bass pack! lucky i bought this when it 1st came out hard 2 get it now. can drop some sweet mixes into this tune :D

  • fuckin crazy

  • 1998 those were the times. Ed Rush n Optical has not been surpassed since.

  • When the beat goes off at 2:05, it means business.

  • Pretty Cool :D .. Did this really came out in 1998 ?! Should've been quite a revolution for Dark DnB or am I too young to get that ?! :P

  • very true, space funk is what i think OPtical coined it. A very different groove from the dnb before it,with his techno glitch influences and tight punchy acoustic drums.Interestingly enough it is always Optical that is blamed/credited for the influx of big dirty distorted bass sounds, however when u listen back to them now you realise they were tame by todays standards.I would say it was more the copycat producers who jumped on his style afterwards, that misinterpreted 'dark' for 'noise'.

  • im talking Renegade hardware, Bad company,Ram etc

  • Awesome :) thanks for the info and your opinion ;)

  • blah blah blah

    stop

    listen

    enjoy

  • This is actually the begining of "Neurofunk" Drum & Bass. That's what it was called when this stuff first dropped.

  • yeh, k, thanks :)

  • Love this fucking track wormhole was the first DnB album i ever bought =D

    Check out my channel guys

  • BIG TUNE reminds me of 20/20
