@011y89 They need action or they get bored. A house full of kids should do it. Grew up with sweetest beagle mix with German shepherd. Never tired of kid action & was always sweet. Grew old into a mellow, good-natured dog who loved greeting new people. He'd only bark when he sensed serious trouble (had a formidable bark like a mastiff, would send miscreants running not knowing what a total sweetheart he was.)

@011y89 Yes, I know. Just saying that they may not necessarily be naughty if they aren't allowed to become bored. Even though our old Beagle was a mix with German Shepherd, aside from his coloration & being slightly larger than a Beagle, he looked & acted like a Beagle. Never bit anyone in his 14 years & never did "naughty stuff" but he was kept in constant motion by 4 kids.

gywsgab - Beagles can very easily get overweight if their food intake is not watch closely or do not get enough activity. Its not hard to keep them from getting overweight but you can't go around giving them table scrapes all the time. Same goes for most dogs though.

Also, in rare cases Beagles may develop immune mediated polygenic arthritis (where the immune system attacks the joints) even at a young age, which is what happened to my beagle at only age 2

@gywsgab they're prone to weight gain if you overfeed them. They can't regulate weight, because they love food. So just make sure you properly feed your beagle during set times of the day (NO FREE FEEDING!) and you won't have weight issues. As for sickness, it's pretty rare, as the breed is incredibly old. Like all breeds though, there are bad breeders who only care about money, and not the line, so buyer beware.
