For me, the difference between Stevie's 70's and 80's material is that the 70's were obviously genius songs and albums, but they were also instantly attention-grabbing. How could you not be instantly awed at the opening lines of Superstition, Too High, Higher Ground, Love's In Need Of Love Today, As, etc.?
Whereas the 80's material is a bit more synthetic and pop-like, but man, are there some amazing gems there. I Love You Too Much, My Eyes Don't Cry, Skeletons, You Will Know, Free, etc.
@cutandpaste1 Well, for me his best period is the 70's of course, but I've always had a soft spot for 'Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants'. Highly misunderstood in my view. And although most crap all over his 80's output, there are some gems to be found on 'In Square Circle' and 'Characters' ('Never In Your Sun', 'You Will Know', 'Free').
Cool track. Definitely could have been on 1987's 'Characters' album. I wish one day he would release an entire box set of unreleased songs. I'm sure he has some gems in his vaults.
@cutandpaste1 It was rumored to have been recorded in 1988, which is obvious by the dated 80's production. And it's also OBVIOUS that this is Stevie Wonder.
amazing! even stevie wonder's throw-away songs sound 50 million times better than most of this garbage being played on commercial music radio today....
@akamizzT .stevie does channel a little michael jackson in some of his songs....especially towards the end of this song. stevie sings that "cha-che-che" scat that michael made famous on his "human nature" song...
Dunno if anyone said on here or not but this was premiered on MTV's "Characters" special to promote album of same name of his! :)

So cool!!!
So much sorrow to think that some unreleased material in some cases is even better than some released material...

@ThoughtfulMind yeah and you think to yourself? why they didn't put this song instead of that of other song?

@UTubeViwer84 you're right, the question comes to mind.

Cool!
Being the 80's is often pictured as sort of a slump period for Stevie, this is the kind of stuff he should have been releasing then.
