Fantastic video. I was able to follow these instructions easily and replaced my main piston, seals and brine valve using a rebuild kit. Not my water softener no longer gets stuck mid-way through the regeneration cycle. Thanks for the great video!
This is very helpful video, I did this job in just a little more time than you did in your video. Had to remove some rust build up from the bore of the cylinder. Also, found that the brine valve snap ring clip had rusted and lost off. Ordered a rebuild kit and did it myself! Thank you!
Hey Waterman - thanks for these helpful videos. The guy that installed my system 3 years ago now wants to do a maintenance for $75. I'd like to do it myself, but don't know where to get parts. Can you advise? Also which of your videos is best for such a routine maintenance? Thanks!
Point # 1 makes sense and will apply to many valves on well water. Point # 2 is not valid. Applying silicone grease to the piston is not necessary, as the Teflon coating of the Piston and the water are the only lubricant needed. The grease will wipe off the first time the valve cycles and if too much is applied it may trap sediments, causing "drag", so I do not recommend applying to the piston.

1.
Clean out the hard water build-up and or iron within the valve body prior to inserting the new seals and spacers.
2.
You must lubricate the new piston with
o-ring grease. Remember, your control valve will be used, unlike this new one here.
