Regardless of the right or wrong that the Empress & Emperor were; such infighting, selfish motives, and treason by the Aristocracy created the atmosphere that destroyed the Empire from within. I cannot overlook, or forgive such machinations.
I know this sounds silly because admittedly I don't know who she is or anything about her but I don't think she was right. If she'd kidnapped Alexandra the monarchy might be there today but it would give future generations a precedence to behave inappropriately against their sovereign. The Tsar should have abdicated sooner before matters got out of hand but what she proposes was treason. She should have been arrested!
grand duchess pavlovna was wife to grand duke vladimir who was tasr alexander 3rds next brother in line for throne....they always felt they should have been handed the throne upon nikolai 2nds demise since he and his son and his only living brother had abdicated......
there was tension between nikolai 2nd wife empress alexandra and maria....maria was in controll of all the rest of the imperial family and the entire social scene.... world wide for imperial russia.......she really ruled......
@mcmlxvi Fall of Eagles is on DVD, just so you know. i got mine from barnes & noble, and if you wait for their dvd sales it can actually be cheaper than a typical season of a show, for example.
it was a worthy investment for me, but i guess that's a matter of perspective & interests. :-)
She was the first and only wife of a grand duke ever to refuse to convert to the Russian Orthodox Church and got away with it. As clever as she was she was blinded by the idea that a revolution would end up with her son Kirill sitting on the throne of russia. During the killings of the Romanovs most of them got out of the country with her help.
maybe she should have been arrested but she was dead on about the Emperess. In exile she was broke as hell and yet she managed to arrange royal marriages for her three daughters. Clever woman.
This is from a BBC drama called "Fall of Eagles" about the people and events leading to the collapse of the Russian, Austrian and German empires. Marie Pavlovna is played by a fine British actress, Rosalie Crutchley - perhaps best known for playing Katherine Parr in another BBC classic drama, 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII'. Physically she's not quite 'big' enough for MP - but she's caught the character.

lol, if she could kidnap alexandra & put her in a convent (presumably the tsar too), romanov would still rule now ^^
