does this song has a name to it? or is it just random traditional music? we're gonna present this in a celebration and I would like to get the same melody.. or something like it..
This called Rom Kos Angray in Khmer. It is called Ram Anray in Thai. Angray is the name of the long stick that was used to pound rice from its shell. This Thai's dance was originated from Buriam, Sisaket, and Surin where Khmer ethnic still live, speak Khmer and practice the culture. This is the fact. They also have their own music genre called "Kantreum." which is very popular in Cambodia. I still have family members in the area.
This resembled a dance similar to those found in Cambodia while i made i trip there a couple of years ago. Although there were more distinctive routine in the Khmer version
thai, khmer, laotion, filipino.. i see a lot of similarities. the only difference is the languages, yet that still have a bit of similarities. so basically, they're all the same. only wish we spoke 1 language, then we wont have to set people apart.
Very true KhmerRepublicanz, most Thai culture is borrowed for Khmer and Lao culture, exspecially the dance. The girls in the sleeveless shirts are Issan/Lao, Khmer Culture has about 1,000 years more history than Thailand/Siam, and about 1/3 of thailand was Cambodian durring the Ankor kingdom. I love how White people try to be so Polictically correct, I don't know why whites have so much guilt.
Such a dance with different/similar music, costumes and so forth can be found throughout many Southeast Asian countries. I don't think it would be right to settle one specific country as the sole "creator" of the dance. Each country's version has its own uniqueness for sure, though.
No need to get annoyed, victir. This dance was part of the cultural experience showed by the Government of Thailand. As you can imagine, dances share ideas and concepts from a particular geographic area.

Hi KhmerRepublicanz,
I am sure the Khmer have a similar dance too. All cultures borrow from other cultures. No harm, no foul. May all cultures thrive and prosper.

These dancers are really cool! But somebody please settle the question: It this dance originally Thai, Isaan, Filipino, or what? And how old is it?

I'm alittle annoyed, this dance is a lao dance not traditional thai at all. It's called Lao gatop mai and found in Northeastern Thai and Laos ok.
