I asume newer corvettes does less mpg thought. And as billybobjoe198 said if u don't leave it on neutral but on some gear downhill u will get 99.9mpg too.
If you're rolling down a hill in a n EFI car that's manual you need to leave it in gear to maximize gas mileage. 4:22 he says he was in neutral, if you have it in your highest gear you'll manage minimal engine braking while using the gearing to your advantage to have the wheels turn the engine over rather than the gasoline. You do not use fuel while coasting in gear, you do while in neutral.
@billybobjoe198 lol. if ur car is fully warmed up, you can shut the engine off, coast, and when u need to brake, turn on ignition, let goclutch and fired it up as u brake
Well... the Prius gets it's good mileage in the city because of regenerative braking. It gets better mileage in the city the the hwy. So not a good comparison.
When Prius came out it was all electric. People would turn away from buying them because they took a lot of time and effort to keep them charged up. The other thing I watched people turn away from Prius back then was the fact they costed around $100k and you were required to take time consuming courses to learn how to upkeep the power supply. Now they are hybrids getting fuel economy like GM v6 cars could get in the early 2000's. For example a Alero or Grandam can get 42mpg on the hway gov rated
So you proved that by shifting into neutral on a standard car on downhills you can save gas? You drove 43 miles, which proves so, so little because so many variables come into play. I agree, this is a crap experiment.
@TheAirsoftCorner how can you call this a crap experiment the car is well at least 4 years old so the engine is worn out and is not going to be running to the best it could be but it does have 4 times the amount of the prius and also 34 mpg in a v8 is amazing and well getting 39.4 mpg in a pretty much generated card thats pretty bad and i mean really bad because both cars went the same distance threw the same hills if they took different routes yes it would be a stupid experiment
Come on driving a Corvette and trying to save fuel, thats so not Rock n Roll. Wouldnt have either of these cars there both two extremes, nobody who drives a Corvette is going to buy it to drive at Low RPMs. Stupid and Pointless Video....
+++++GasHole full documentary is now available on youtube revealing oil companies conspiring against the 100mile per gallon car...and the disappearance of Tom Vogel inventor of the vapour engine++++
that 6th gear on high way. may dad has a c5 2002. love that fuckin car. range says 219 when we start can drive for an hour.. range is 215 to 210 when were done.
buy this data, the corvette's engine is actually more efficient, making 400 horsepower while getting 30 mpg, while the prius' engine makes 98 horsepower and gets 39mpg.
oh ya sure a car that will use NO gas at time uses more gas than a car thats a v8 using gas all the time,,,wow how dumb are you guyes for believing in this,,,
@camry01 Actually this video is right. They did a test on Top Gear when they compared a Prius to a BMW M3. They ran it around the track, the Prius would be ran around the track to its limits and the M3(which is a V8) had to just keep up. The M3 got 19 mpg and the Prius got 17. The engine doesn't have to work as hard as the Prius does. So you are the dumbass.
@rydawg64 wow never in the history of television have they ever lied to us and make it look like the way they wanted,,,so your the dumbass that belives everything you see on tv,,,,hay guess what did you see the movie independance day,,will smith is fight alians,,,thank god he saved us way back then,,now if we can get rid of all this monsters from shrek out,,scary stuff,,how about thse gremlins,,,,we need to watch out for them too,,,,see where im going with this dumbass, lil wayne real gangster
@camry01 Its actually more on mechanical knowledge then me believeing what i see on tv. The Corvette has a lot of torque which vs the Prius is a big difference. Plus Prius owners tend to offset their fuel efficiency by traveling 85-90mph on the highway, which i see all the time. A bigger engine has to work less to get its power than a smaller engine. You drive a Prius flat out you are going to get shit for gas mileage plus you can buy an eco car that just gets 40+ mpg on internal combustion only
@rydawg64 thats a smart comment your completely right it does take more for that fuel efficient car to run high speeds on the high way but no one understands that a prius is good for staying in the city
@camry01 And still come out saving money due to the price of both cars. About 15-17k for a small eco car and get a Prius for 23k. And for that extra saved cash you can spend on gas. And don't forget you will still save. Hybrids are a waste of money, especially the abomination to the auto industry which is know as the Prius.
Also the reason the prius has a lower drag coefficient is because the Corvette was designed to get major downforce. Heck, F1 cars have extremely high drag coefficients, around 1.4, but I hope no one would say they are actually bad aerodynamically.
most cars could get good mileage if you know how to drive them......i see so many race from one light to the next,I try to take it easy and judge the lights.......
Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, safe, and envelope, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some even say they hear, do it.
ok, but now you're using a corvette in a way that it wasnt intended to be used. If you're going to do that, why not just get a damn metro. I mean, if you buy a corvette its a MUST that you thrash it.
Gotta love them 1.5L motors.. hmm. how big was the corvette motor? lol yea im sure the corvette can get just as good as gas mileage as the prius with a little more "tricks"
HA! I knew this video was going to be a joke when I read it. I mean if that were true, we'd all be driving corvettes lol! And then the guy was like "I could of stopped you and been here a half hour sooner than you". Ok good observation there dumbass, but thats not what this test is about. Obviously you could beat a lot of cars with a corvette like that, but this is about gas mileage, not looks or speed. Way to be the douche bag there dude lol. But no all seriousness, the Prius is an awesome car
@alexancia5279 when time is money, power is better. the prius saved maybe 20 cents over the corvette there. if the corvette got there 14 mins faster and spent an extra bucj, thats less than $0.2 per minute
Mr. Shaved Head w/ Goatee should have shut off his engine when coasting downhill. True, you don't have power steering or power brakes, but it's not that big of a deal. That's what I do when coasting in my manual-equipped S15. Still, they did prove the Prius to be more efficient
At the very least we can all agree that the construction of the Prius is pretty harmful for the environment. The batteries alone from raw material to finished product circumnavigate the globe. When you factor in the manufacturing process on top of that you really have to wonder how the car can even be close to considered "green".
I am blaming it on those tool bags that were braking in the suburban!, ahaha America, lets drink and go driving FUCK YA!, and maybe some day the guy in the Prius will get laid.
@bigorangetrucker you ignorant POS redneck. you wish you ever went to school. you coulduv learnt more about america and american made. honda employs more americans than GM or ford. its trailer park trash like you who made world think that americans are stupid

@sky92x No, if he was in gear he would of been engine breaking and the RPM's would of been close to 3k or more depending on the hill. In neutral the engine is at idle around 1.5k. Using LESS gas.
@ajg366 In the proper gear, the wheels will turn the engine and it will consume far less fuel (none or nearly none) rather than idling the car in neutral. Not to mention in most states it's illegal to roll down hill in neutral.
i used to have 1990 corolla with a 5spd manual. I averaged 32 mpg in even the very hilly areas of my old town, The best part was a didnt drive slow at all, i pretty much drove like a dick most of the time. When i babied it just to see how high i could get it it was around 37 mpg, the highest i ever got was 39 mpg just like the hybrid. i also paid only 200 bucks for it, faaaar better deal then the hybrid lol

@razielaod And that's a valid reason to choose a Prius over a Corvette? The lamest, most pussy-avoiding car in the world, or a nice car, with some balls that gets surprisingly good mileage?
not only does the prius get better milage stock, but you can get hella aftermarket shit and fuck with the tuning/cpu and chips to get much better gas milage sometimes up to 2x as much better. not saying id rather drive a prius, because id much rather have a sleeker and quicker car. but saying the prius definitely does it's job for a fuel economy car. i know people who get on average 80 mpg on there prius's. im sold right there besides the lithium-ion rechargeable batteries life... lol.
I have a C6 and my buddy drives that same model Prius. Yes I can get 30 MPG cruising on a higway cruise controll at 75 MPH, but the moment you get off that freeway and go for a stop and to L.A traffic and face the "real word" combined MPG, its down to about 22 MPG. My buddy on the other hand, his real day to day MPG is about 45 on his Prius, and 50MPG on a very light foot stop and go traffic. To compare a Vette and Prius in MPG is purely for entertainment purposses.
They actually convinced the Americans - the nation that loves Vettes, Camaros and Mustangs, that an electric Toyota is a gadget. And that it is cool. Advertising masterpiece. And as for Prius - it is also a piece, a piece of something else. Why don't you just get a Jetta TDI and get some decent performance?!?
back in the 80's they imported little cars called daihatsu's into america, my grandpa had a 1980 mira, about the size of a old dodge omni hatchback. its was no looker, but it got 58mpg 58mpg. fifty fuckin eight miles per gallon. when this started to catch on, our government banned the importing of this car saying it was an unsafe vehicle. they still make these and they still get like 58-60 mpg. the government is getting some under the table cash from the fuel companies is whats happening.
if you buy into this vid then your a moron, there is no way a chevy corvette is better in gas than a hybrid, let them do a proper test, like go on a trip with the cars,,more hyp to try to sell gm,,,yes prius are not the nicest car buut dont tell me they use more gas than a vette, sorry i dont buy into this
@camry01 sorry camry, it is true. Large v8 engines with a standard transmission can get great gas mileage on the highway like small engine/hybrid cars. Big engines = tons of torque, which means it can cruise at ridiculously low rpm's at high speeds. Granted, as soon as you hit the city, that drops incredibly back down to low 20's and teens.
@torch2005 really,so 8 cyl fires will use more less than 4 and a 4 that stops and goes as well(hybriyd,)nope its impossable,i know cars and engines, dont buy into this,if you do,well im sorry then your guliable and belive in toothfairies, theres is NO way 8cyl will use less than a 4,makes no sence,a big engine dosnt mean tons of tourq, yes this vette is fast but not better in gas,i mean you really think you know more than forbes or car and driver?take a priuse from montreal to florida on 1 tank,,,
@camry01 well you must be a ford lover. because gm's 8cyl. cuts down to 4 cyl. when the peddle isn't mashed on, hows that for your car/engine intelligence? oh and by the way, the electronic parts of a corvette, may be made in japan, but @least its only made in 2 countries and not 5 like the prius, and most hybrids, plus on a side note a hybrid is not a car good on gas, a hybrid is a mix/ twisted creation, im soo sick of hearing hybrid when ppl only think its the def. of a high gas mileage car.
@rustypro98 no ford lover this way, just know my facts,it impossable, for 8 cyly(8 injecters)use less than 4cyl(4 injecters)so think what you want, its a free country but i really know whats going on ,,,,,,i mean comeone, you really think you no better than facts from major car mags and web sites and newspapers ,,how dumb do you have to be,4 is half of 8 ,,,,,,means 4 uses less gas than 8,,,ask any mechanic like i and they will tell you,,even a none hybryd 4 will use less,,bash hybryds all u want
@camry01 the corvettes engine cuts down to 4 cyl. when not mashing on the pedal, ok, it basically shuts down half the motor, like a 4cyl. do you understand? ok moving on...don't try to change the subject you yourself was burning ppl for believing in this. yes its also true that the prius takes more energy to even construct, because its made in 5 parts in 5 dif. countrys and then brought to 1 to be built, do you know that the prius would have polluted the earth more
@rustypro98 the only time this system really works is when you are going downhill for an extended amount of time...... for regular day to day driving the prius is unmatched the prius can get 80 miles to the gallon. everything effects gas mileage..breaking abrubt turning, inefficient air flow..
@camry01 no lie,my 01 camry 4cyl,gets 950km on a tank highway,,,,i do it many time when i travel from city to city ,now a priuse hybryd would get me more, you cant say that about any v8,even it it cuts down to 4 cyl on cruise,,,,being a most lickly a bigger heavyer car,no way..
@camry01 Not really if the 4 cylinder produces less power then it needs more fuel to pull it's weight. Adding turbos will increase fuel efficiency but at some point you cannot alter physics. 4 or 8 really makes little difference because to truly utilize the extra power from a turbo the 4 will need larger injectors which equals more fuel. The car companies are just fucking with your head. I can Build a 50+ MPG 200Hp 4 cylinder turbo using stop start & cylinder deactivation & so can they.
@camry01 You are correct. like you said, a hybrid (stop and go) will use less fuel than a v8. very true. My ONE and ONLY instance when a v8 will get better fuel economy is on a highway, on cruise, manual trans, 70mph. Great example is my 02' ls1. Yes, its a gas guzzler, but i can get 440-460miles to one tank if i only drive highway. 450/15gal tank is ~30mpg. Please feel free to look it up. By no means am i saying the v8 is better.. both get great fuel eco, but i like the fact a v8 gets 30mpg
@torch2005 how can a car that uses 4 cyl on highway(when it cuts out 4 cyl) than a car that uses no cyl on the highway?when cruising the priuse switch to electric,,how can a vette use less,it cant that how,,,
@iamtheomega Roomier? Are you kidding? Safer in a crash? I doubt it. The only true statement is that it is sexier and has better performance, everything else is crap water dribbling out of your mouth.
He said he was rolling in neutral.. It's better to leave a manual car in the highest gear possible while rolling. In neutral fuel is pumped to keep the engine in a set RPM range (idling), in gear no fuel is pumped.
In this particular case you are correct as the car has direct fuel injection, but were it a old fashioned carburetor run engine, then running in neutral would yield better consumption.
Nevertheless since running in neutral is hazardous, we have all benefited from direct injection in more ways than one.........except that guy that kinda forgot we're in the 21st century already...hehehe.
I love just rolling downhill in 5th and reading 0% fuel corruption on the OC.
The Prius may have won the mileage war, but talking about winning the battle but losing the war. The Prius may be fine if you live in Smug Francisco and you're dashing from Starbucks to Starbucks to giggle about the upcoming celebrity awards show, but if you're a man with an actual penis then you're going to want for something better. At least the Prius owner in this video seemed to like it for the gadget-ness of the car and not the big judgmental environmental lie its packaged with.
@toyotaprius79 That depends, I work with them a lot since I work at Avis car rental. They seem to get around 500-600km (341.11miles) per tank of gas, but that depends on the way a person drives it. If I'm not mistaken they have an 80litre tank (21.17gallon) so that's about 16-17 miles to the gallon. So no, it wont get 30mpg easily, but it's a v8 so it's not meant to be fuel efficient. I've heard better, but that's with good driving.
@themarkofpolo Why would the Corvette have a diesel engine? Its been a sports car since it was built in the 50's. The great gas mileage is just a side effect of having such a light body and a powerful engine plus the gear ratios.
I'd much sooner support more mainstream diesel engines than hybrids. Do you know how toxic batteries are? And a lot of hybrids are powered by a ton of laptop batteries...which only last about 2 years on average. Doesn't VW have a diesel that gets 70+ mpg?
Guys really, who cares about mpg? So long as its nothing ridiculous like single digits on the highway, its not a big deal. My RX8 averages 16 mpg sometimes and drinks about a quart of oil a month. And guess what? I love it. I'm not thinking about my mpg while I'm driving it cuz its so much fun. And when I do stop to refuel, I just consider it the cost of having such a nice ride. Have you ever seen a Prius owner smile while they're driving?
@themarkofpolo Sorry if I don't freak out and sell everything I own and buy a Prius so I can save the environment and bring back all the extinct animals.
@wasp010 I don't own a hybrid either. And at least an RX8 isn't a Hummer H2. Nonetheless, small aerodynamic modifications and better driving technique (see hypermiling) can improve almost any vehicle's fuel economy. It's a choice.
However, when you buy another quart of oil, consider its cost in dollars and cents; THEN consider its cost to the environment, the fishing industry, and the livelihood of of an entire region. Just sayin', its true cost doesn't merit a "who cares" characterization.
@themarkofpolo How do you think the majority of that electricity you use to power your "environment saving" car is created? You're not saving any environment by using an electric car, you're just pushing around the pollution created from powering it.
@Linkthe3rd That's very true. Plus the batteries require environment-damaging extraction and processing of sources. (Laptops, cameras, cellphones etc. are guilty, too).
However, for plug-in electrics, the pollution is transferred from non-point exhaust (see ozone and urban heat island effect) to point-source pollution by the local power plant (yes, probably coal). It would be easier to introduce new smokestack scrubbers at the power plant than attempt to capture tailpipe emissions.
I love the part when the Corvette driver is talking about carrying speed through the corners and saving fuel. Well buddy, when the Prius is coasting it's actually PRODUCING energy, not just saving it. Also getting 40 mpg in a Corvette like the Corvette driver claims he can is stupid, this guy was COASTING and got 30 mpg, that's a far fucking cry from 40 mpg. Also, the latest generation of the Prius can get up to 70 mpg under some driving conditions.
I'm a corvette owner (C5 Z06) but I will honestly say the average prius will get better gas milage than the average vette. But with the extra gas I'm wasting I have a faster, better looking car.
@i90east Both my '92 Civic Si Hatch& '91 Civic Dx hatch get 44 mpg, both have over 230,000 miles on the clock. My Honda '84 cb700sc Nighthawk gets 40 mpg with 63,000 on the clock, all w/ no coasting or keyoff BS. All 3 vehicles cost less than $5,000 total. All are lo-maintenance and are a blast to drive. Save beaucoup bux, save the earth, save a car, or older bike, and spend the savings on yer squeeze.
Prius is a fad....when it comes to replacing and desposing of the batteries we will see how green they really are.
Lots of cars are more fuel efficient than the prius...its more to do with how you drive not what you drive. Put a 17 year old new driver in a prius and id imagine it would be less effiecient than most cars...just an example
They are ugly, expensive and not green. If anything they are worse as they have 2 engines and loads of batteries.
its funny how people rig numbers just to sound better. it is surprising how many people do not actually know what gas/mileage they are actually getting so they guesstimate.
His Prius only got 39mpg? My base model 2010 Hyundai Accent matches that in city driving. It only cost $9,100, which is 36% of what a Prius costs. The Corvette driver mentioned that he rolls down hills in neutral. You're better off leaving the car in gear and taking advantage of the deceleration fuel cutoff. The momentum of the car keeps the engine spinning and you use no gas while this is active. All modern cars have this feature.
Man how did that prius guy fuck up his gas mileage so bad? I drive a regular 2010 Toyota Corolla, I drive like an idiot, and I still get about 40mpg on the highway.
Corvette guy's mileage sounds about right. In real world testing, I got about 33mpg highway in a V6 Honda Accord. Add an extra 100hp and yeah the mileage will drop to somewhere around 30.
Go diesel, the BMW 5 series sedan with a 3 liter straight six giving off 245 hp and all that massive diesel torque does according to the official mixed figures 39mpg* (37 with a manual). The number is 43 if you can make it with a manual 3 series with the same engine.
There the fun is also intact, but if you don't care for it go for a VW Polo BM 3 door, official figures say 71 mpg in mixed and 81 in extra urban. No hybrid stuff needed, just diesel.
My 95 miata with 56,000 miles gets 36mpg and I only paid $5,000 for it. Then I went out and bought a 2007 dodge 1500 with 38,000 miles and paid $20,000 for that. So I have the best of two worlds for only $25,000.
Just like the Vette guy said, keeping the RPMS down low. That's what's good about V8 cars, they have lots of torque and don't need high end gearing to get the cars moving.
he just said the prius is cool. automatic fag

Plus Prius owners tend to offset their fuel efficiency by traveling 85-90mph on the highway, which i see all the time. A bigger engine has to work less to get its power than a smaller engine. You drive a Prius flat out you are going to get shit for gas mileage plus you can buy an eco car that just gets 40+ mpg on internal combustion only
rydawg64 9 months ago
@rydawg64 Ok ok, we get it. You are a prius anti-fanboy.
CmdrTobs 9 months ago
@rydawg64 thats a smart comment your completely right it does take more for that fuel efficient car to run high speeds on the high way but no one understands that a prius is good for staying in the city
youngone190 8 months ago
@camry01 And still come out saving money due to the price of both cars. About 15-17k for a small eco car and get a Prius for 23k. And for that extra saved cash you can spend on gas. And don't forget you will still save. Hybrids are a waste of money, especially the abomination to the auto industry which is know as the Prius.

goodkill1 9 months ago
Also the reason the prius has a lower drag coefficient is because the Corvette was designed to get major downforce. Heck, F1 cars have extremely high drag coefficients, around 1.4, but I hope no one would say they are actually bad aerodynamically.
thekkl 9 months ago
It's because good gas mileage does not come from low power it comes from power efficiency and low weight.

But no all seriousness, the Prius is an awesome car
alexancia5279 10 months ago

@ajg366 In the proper gear, the wheels will turn the engine and it will consume far less fuel (none or nearly none) rather than idling the car in neutral. Not to mention in most states it's illegal to roll down hill in neutral.

not only does the prius get better milage stock, but you can get hella aftermarket shit and fuck with the tuning/cpu and chips to get much better gas milage sometimes up to 2x as much better. not saying id rather drive a prius, because id much rather have a sleeker and quicker car. but saying the prius definitely does it's job for a fuel economy car. i know people who get on average 80 mpg on there prius's. im sold right there besides the lithium-ion rechargeable batteries life...

Why don't you just get a Jetta TDI and get some decent performance?!?

camry01 1 year ago
@camry01 sorry camry, it is true. Large v8 engines with a standard transmission can get great gas mileage on the highway like small engine/hybrid cars. Big engines = tons of torque, which means it can cruise at ridiculously low rpm's at high speeds. Granted, as soon as you hit the city, that drops incredibly back down to low 20's and teens.
torch2005 1 year ago
@torch2005 really,so 8 cyl fires will use more less than 4 and a 4 that stops and goes as well(hybriyd,)nope its impossable,i know cars and engines, dont buy into this,if you do,well im sorry then your guliable and belive in toothfairies, theres is NO way 8cyl will use less than a 4,makes no sence,a big engine dosnt mean tons of tourq, yes this vette is fast but not better in gas,i mean you really think you know more than forbes or car and driver?take a priuse from montreal to florida on 1 tank,,,
camry01 1 year ago
@camry01 well you must be a ford lover. because gm's 8cyl. cuts down to 4 cyl. when the peddle isn't mashed on, hows that for your car/engine intelligence? oh and by the way, the electronic parts of a corvette, may be made in japan, but @least its only made in 2 countries and not 5 like the prius, and most hybrids, plus on a side note a hybrid is not a car good on gas, a hybrid is a mix/ twisted creation, im soo sick of hearing hybrid when ppl only think its the def. of a high gas mileage car.

@camry01 than making and driving 5 corvettes in their lifetime, just one, so do you understand now?
rustypro98 1 year ago
@camry01 the corvettes engine cuts down to 4 cyl. when not mashing on the pedal, ok, it basically shuts down half the motor, like a 4cyl. do you understand? ok moving on...don't try to change the subject you yourself was burning ppl for believing in this. yes its also true that the prius takes more energy to even construct, because its made in 5 parts in 5 dif. countrys and then brought to 1 to be built, do you know that the prius would have polluted the earth more
rustypro98 1 year ago
@rustypro98 the only time this system really works is when you are going downhill for an extended amount of time...... for regular day to day driving the prius is unmatched the prius can get 80 miles to the gallon. everything effects gas mileage..breaking abrubt turning, inefficient air flow..
ciaridah 1 year ago
@camry01 no lie,my 01 camry 4cyl,gets 950km on a tank highway,,,,i do it many time when i travel from city to city ,now a priuse hybryd would get me more, you cant say that about any v8,even it it cuts down to 4 cyl on cruise,,,,being a most lickly a bigger heavyer car,no way..
camry01 1 year ago
@camry01 Not really if the 4 cylinder produces less power then it needs more fuel to pull it's weight. Adding turbos will increase fuel efficiency but at some point you cannot alter physics. 4 or 8 really makes little difference because to truly utilize the extra power from a turbo the 4 will need larger injectors which equals more fuel. The car companies are just fucking with your head. I can Build a 50+ MPG 200Hp 4 cylinder turbo using stop start & cylinder deactivation & so can they.
bronxboyXXX 1 year ago
@camry01 You are correct. like you said, a hybrid (stop and go) will use less fuel than a v8. very true. My ONE and ONLY instance when a v8 will get better fuel economy is on a highway, on cruise, manual trans, 70mph. Great example is my 02' ls1. Yes, its a gas guzzler, but i can get 440-460miles to one tank if i only drive highway. 450/15gal tank is ~30mpg. Please feel free to look it up. By no means am i saying the v8 is better.. both get great fuel eco, but i like the fact a v8 gets 30mpg
torch2005 1 year ago
@torch2005 how can a car that uses 4 cyl on highway(when it cuts out 4 cyl) than a car that uses no cyl on the highway?when cruising the priuse switch to electric,,how can a vette use less,it cant that how,,,

He said he was rolling in neutral.. It's better to leave a manual car in the highest gear possible while rolling. In neutral fuel is pumped to keep the engine in a set RPM range (idling), in gear no fuel is pumped.
anoonymuse 1 year ago
@anoonymuse
Hmm...yes and no.

At least the Prius owner in this video seemed to like it for the gadget-ness of the car and not the big judgmental environmental lie its packaged with.

toyotaprius79 1 year ago
@toyotaprius79 That depends, I work with them a lot since I work at Avis car rental. They seem to get around 500-600km (341.11miles) per tank of gas, but that depends on the way a person drives it. If I'm not mistaken they have an 80litre tank (21.17gallon) so that's about 16-17 miles to the gallon. So no, it wont get 30mpg easily, but it's a v8 so it's not meant to be fuel efficient. I've heard better, but that's with good driving.

(see Ecomodder)
themarkofpolo 1 year ago
@themarkofpolo Why would the Corvette have a diesel engine? Its been a sports car since it was built in the 50's. The great gas mileage is just a side effect of having such a light body and a powerful engine plus the gear ratios.
I'd much sooner support more mainstream diesel engines than hybrids. Do you know how toxic batteries are? And a lot of hybrids are powered by a ton of laptop batteries...which only last about 2 years on average. Doesn't VW have a diesel that gets 70+ mpg?
wasp010 1 year ago
Guys really, who cares about mpg? So long as its nothing ridiculous like single digits on the highway, its not a big deal. My RX8 averages 16 mpg sometimes and drinks about a quart of oil a month. And guess what? I love it. I'm not thinking about my mpg while I'm driving it cuz its so much fun. And when I do stop to refuel, I just consider it the cost of having such a nice ride. Have you ever seen a Prius owner smile while they're driving?
wasp010 1 year ago
@wasp010 This is what I like to call the "BP Oil Spill" attitude. Thanks.
themarkofpolo 1 year ago
@themarkofpolo Sorry if I don't freak out and sell everything I own and buy a Prius so I can save the environment and bring back all the extinct animals.
wasp010 1 year ago
@wasp010 I don't own a hybrid either. And at least an RX8 isn't a Hummer H2. Nonetheless, small aerodynamic modifications and better driving technique (see hypermiling) can improve almost any vehicle's fuel economy. It's a choice.
However, when you buy another quart of oil, consider its cost in dollars and cents; THEN consider its cost to the environment, the fishing industry, and the livelihood of of an entire region. Just sayin', its true cost doesn't merit a "who cares" characterization.
themarkofpolo 1 year ago
@themarkofpolo How do you think the majority of that electricity you use to power your "environment saving" car is created? You're not saving any environment by using an electric car, you're just pushing around the pollution created from powering it.
Linkthe3rd 1 year ago
@Linkthe3rd That's very true. Plus the batteries require environment-damaging extraction and processing of sources. (Laptops, cameras, cellphones etc. are guilty, too).
However, for plug-in electrics, the pollution is transferred from non-point exhaust (see ozone and urban heat island effect) to point-source pollution by the local power plant (yes, probably coal). It would be easier to introduce new smokestack scrubbers at the power plant than attempt to capture tailpipe emissions.

If anything they are worse as they have 2 engines and loads of batteries.

its funny how people rig numbers just to sound better. it is surprising how many people do not actually know what gas/mileage they are actually getting so they guesstimate.
antonioscheel 1 year ago
His Prius only got 39mpg? My base model 2010 Hyundai Accent matches that in city driving. It only cost $9,100, which is 36% of what a Prius costs. The Corvette driver mentioned that he rolls down hills in neutral. You're better off leaving the car in gear and taking advantage of the deceleration fuel cutoff. The momentum of the car keeps the engine spinning and you use no gas while this is active. All modern cars have this feature.

Corvette guy's mileage sounds about right. In real world testing, I got about 33mpg highway in a V6 Honda Accord. Add an extra 100hp and yeah the mileage will drop to somewhere around 30.

@ShawnD1 your honda accord has 300 hp?

you should have used the z06 for this comparison , it is lighter and you can still find a 2002-2004 z06 for around 25,000

*The 5 series has got a new 8 speed automatic.

Drive more than 50 miles at speed on a highway and the prius's advantage starts to disappear.
