I am from South Carolina. As usual he takes a bit of of a bill and uses misinformation to expand on it. I'm tired of his ill informed arguments that take up valuable time on the floor. Hes bought and paid for by the insurance industry and the insurance industry service companies.
Obama has scheduled a major speech on healthcare for Wednesday night. The Republicans will get a chance to respond. I have written a few suggestions on how the Republicans should respond in an Open Letter to My Congressman. My Facebook page is roncram1. Please take a look and support these proposals to your own Republican Congressmen.
3 days ago, I heard DeMint advocate his "alternate" plan where the government gives every family $5000 to buy their own health care...either through tax credits for those that pay tax or vouchers for those that don't.
$5K times 70 million families times ten years is 3.5 trillion dollars. Or double what those "free spending" dems are proposing.
On top of that..a family can't buy a decent policy for $5k so many would still go without insurance.
I live in SC and I thank God that he is my rep in the senate! He seems the only one in all of congress with any sense. He debates and always has a plan to back up his debates. There is someone out there looking out for the people and Mr Jim DeMint is the one. YES HE CAN!!
DeMint .. like Ron Paul is ON THE FUCKIN MONEY! This country has been made dependant on Medicaid and Medicare thanks to the "Corporatist Health Care" system and it's all by design.. Now the insiders are using that trap to get people to turn to "Socialist Health Care".. "Rationed" health care .. equally a horrible thing.
DeMint And Ron Paul GOT IT RIGHT -
LET THE FREE MARKET DECIDE!
And nobody can say it doesn't work needs remember-Once upon a time we didn't have Medicaid and MC..
Well one of the biggest reasons that health insurance is so costly is because the *ahem* government has over 2500 requirements of the insurers. There is no longer just "freak accident" insurance. Plans are required to have such things as insurance against regular prescriptions and regular checkups. (Why don't we have auto insurance for oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad replacement etc.)
And yes Medicaid/care do pay way below cost to doctors. (See TORT lawyers and malpractice insurance)
It is not true that medicare and medicaid pay below cost. Most private clinic procedures outside the United States cost between 5 and 10 times less than in the USA. Medicaid and medicare actually absorb most of the risk in the population (older and less healthy) while the health insurance companies get to cherry-pick from the healthy. I do NOT trust my health insurance company anymore.
If I have caused two accidents in the last year with three speeding tickets and a DUI in the last five years, I would be higher risk to insure. Should the federal government provide me with auto insurance?
cfbama32, No. But you don't have to be reckless to fall into disease or turn old, right?
Actually, people that pay for individual insurance rather not find out they have some disease, so forgo going to primary care. The reason is because insurance companies punish them if they fall ill, creating a situation where diseases which could have been prevented don't.
If you lose your job and don't pay COBRA, you would never be able to get individual insurance, is that fair?
thank you sir for all you do!

I would like to think that a relatively minor reform such as this one would work, yet I think he is sadly mistaken.
First:
Average annual premium for an employer health plan covering a family of four: $12,700.
Average annual premium for single coverage: $4,700.2
Source: National Coalition on Health Care
Second:
We have to stop the practice of doctors receiving bonuses for not referring someone to a specialist.
Third:
Although he mentioned it, Pre-existing conditions MUST be a priority.
