lol i remember i was in this car on a hill with snow i thought SHIT IMA GET FUKED then i rememberd wait i gotta 2001 2200cc car REV REV REVVVVV front whell slips (thinks shit) AWD KIKS IN VROOOM while everyone with 2wd carz suffer LOL
Wow.... to who is driving.... vehicles need momentum in the snow. Im just saying, in a vehicle like that, you shouldn't have a problem with that little amount of snow.
@koltukas1 The best 4x4? I've done some extreme off-roading in places where the CRV wouldn't have been able to follow mostly because of it's limited ground clearance and the lack of lockers/limited slips, factory or aftermarket.
My '06 Wrangler Unlimited with the factory rear limited slip and my '06 Tacoma TRD 4wd both would go places that the CRV wouldn't
For what it's made for I'm sure the CRV does fine. But in NO WAY can it be called "the best 4x4". That's quite a dumb thing to say.
@WKHalford um Jeeps are far from the best off road vehicle, it's a fact. Another fact is you have no clue what you're on about but I guess it's ok to troll like a bitch, eh? Shit I've had my little 01 in places that would stop a tank and yes, put good off road tires on them they are comparable to any jeep you'll buy. And they don't break every time out. This little CAR will be on and off the road long after your jeep is done and rusting. Oh yeah and the 01 has a low range what now?! poser.
@LeonRFpoa First off, I NEVER said that Jeeps were the best off road.
Second, all I did was take issue with where he said the CRV is the best.
Third, where you said "after your jeep is done" doesn't apply because I no longer own it. I own the '06 Tacoma I mentioned.
Third, I've owned/worked on 8 4wd vehicles and have driven and/or worked on several others. ANd almost every one I have experimented with to see what they are capable of.
@LeonRFpoa I've been rock crawling in eastern Kentucky, Moab, Utah, and where I live now in Farmington, New Mexico. I have yet to see any CRVs rock crawling. Up until I moved to Farmington, I lived most of my life near Tampa, Florida. I NEVER saw a CRV in ANY of the mud holes, never saw them trail riding in the Ocala National Forest. I say this to make a point: people DO NOT buy a CRV for hardcore off-roading. In fact, people RARELY buy them for ANY off roading. THERE'S REASONS WHY!
Not bad to be a SUV with just AWD or 4x4 on demand....This is not a true off roader with low range gearbox, but it has an acceptable performance for soft off roading, where a regular 2wd car cant go.
@wtrdogg20 well what more does the average person need? where i live we get that snow like everyday in winter so we have to drive through that up hills and down hills. maybe a bit more snow actually. However a car like that SHOULD be perfect for it :)
omg you all are retarded half of you can't spell and the majority of you have no idea what you are talking about, which one of you admitted thank you btw it makes me think that out of 27 people, 1 has the brains to figure out when he should keep his mouth shut. if you don't have a degree stfu because you will sound like an idiot. yes i'm talking specifically to philoouw and subiawd4life stfu.
The full time AWD is different, in which the vehicle on 4x4 all the time, dry weather or heavy snow.
The CR-V uses 2WD - front, most of the time, and only when the wheels start to slip, the 4x4 kicks in automatically. Save on gas too. Mine avgs 24 MPG, and upto 28mpg on highway.
having an awd car doesn't mean that it has any king of "teath" on tires to grab on the road or anything like that...so i u knew anything about cars u should know that and also that wheel spin on ice and snow is something ordinary especialy with a car like that wich has 2.0l engine but automatic lock on 4X4....
maybe because it's electronic,so sometimes it does not work properly yeah...my CRV makes a horrible noise when the rear wheels are spining, like an alarm or something
If you knew anything about your car, you'd know that the CR-V Real Time 4WD system is purely mechanical. And that it talks less than a quarter of a wheel turn slip from the front wheels to get the back wheels activated.
you couldn't just say "the CR-V Real Time 4WD system is purely mechanical. And it talks less than a quarter of a wheel turn slip from the front wheels to get the back wheels activated" you had to put "if you knew anything about your car" before, and be so derisive, right ? yeah,i don't know everything about my car,so what ? i never pretended to,whats the big deal ?...anyway,that doesn't explain why it doesn't work everytime, stop trying to be clever
@philoouw there is a service bulletin for this...the hydraulic fluid is shit...just go to the dealership and get them to replace it with the better fluid.
if you guys knew about differentials, body weight is uneven which causes the other wheels to spin more than the others. oh and philoouw that sound in your cr-v is the tcs trying to even out the power if your cr-v is the newer models
The engaging aspect or the AWD is electronic and it doesn't always engage at 1/4 slip. When it does engage though the little triangle with the! in the middle flashes. My CRV had some issues with the rear diff., but overall I would say it is great in the snow and ice colorado throws at me. Plus you have to loo @ balace (which was mentioned) and tires ( goodyear triple treads). The AWD is actually pretty nice. I just with like jeep and mazda it had and over ride so i could manually engage it.
there are lots of better offroad models than the crv. its not meant to be an offroad vehicle, its meant for all around purposes. very few vehicles can get the crv's combination of gas milage (mine gets 35 MPG w/ manual & light mods), offroad ability to reasonable extent (1-2 feet snow, mud, etc.), and performance (i never feel like i don't have enough power). its not really good at any one thing but it kicks ass overall.
i agree, my dad has one(1998) that we named Oliver and it got thru the 2+ feet of snow we got here in Ohio easily...my parents r buyin my sister one just like ours
you're tires shouldn't even be slipping in that little amount of snow. Learn to drive. You're making honda look bad.

Change the rear differential fluid with Honda Dual Pump Fluid II. It takes 1.2 quarts.

Typical Honda, once you get in, you'll drive everywhere on bypass-roads to spend more time in it :)

this is an 6 plus year old cr-v model. and for offroad why would ANYONE use a crv or rav 4?
crv is a fantastic vehicle, especially te 2008 model.
use a jeep or a hummer.
fangalaxy23 4 years ago 2
they aren't to bad of off-road. Just make sure you dont hit the exhaust that, for some reason, crosses the drive-shaft!
ralphp1800 4 years ago
Damn right brother! X-trail and Outlander kick CRV's a<$=!!
Even better a Suzuki Grand Vitara (Escudo) will make it worse 4 CRV.
Pajero will give the CRV a slow painful death!! Short wheel base models would be sooo cruel to CRVs.
Dakar champion for Pajero: 12. CRV: 0???
Don't mess with the Dakar machine. Pajero not only have a real 4wd gears. It also have low-range centre diff for ultra tough terrains.
