It doesn't even look like JP anymore. It looks like little Cambridge now. I used to live there when I was a kid and and a few times as an adult and I remember it being more of an inner city with tons of culture. Now it's Cambridge with "Cultural Stores" in it. I'm glad the crime is down, but please stop trying to make it like Cambridge. Let JP be JP.
I lived in JP in the early 70's. I liked living there but it looks much more interesting now. I lived on a tiny street called Dresden St between Spring Park Ave and Boyleston St. It was close to Lamartine St. At that time the green line ran all the way down Centre St. I am told it no longer does. I enjoyed living there in one of the well known Boston triple deckers.
@DoctorRainhead JP like Charlestown is only dangerous if you're actually "from" here, and get caught up in the city mix. A side from the occational mugging, most "outsider" that live in JP don't have to deal with Boston poverty the probelms that come with it. JP is also home to Bromley-Heath, Bostons lagest housing project. They don't tell you that in the video.
I so much miss JP; I moved from there in 2000 to Virginia. I miss JP Licks(I used to work with the mother of one of the owners.) My favorite: Cucumber ice cream. I lived on Center Street next to the fire station. Dunkin Donuts was across the street with the newspaper guy hawking the papers at five in the morning. Jamaica Pond was wonderful. I always remember Halloween with the lantern festival and all the kids parading around. I would love to be there again with all the diverse people.
there is a job opening in jamaica plain and im not sure about the area..everyone i met says it is dangerous. For those who live there.. what do you think? do i need a car if i move there ? thank you!
im 11 and i happen to have a youtube account dont u think thats kind of Harsh yes u do need a car i live near 2:57 and rite now further behind that shop some1 got shot?Yes it was the drug store :|happes to have ppl smokeing there and man wow ive been living hear for 8 years and its fine with my handicap brother :)its a gud place man 2:57 across their is stop and shop and tellos game stop buy games have fun - 2008
who ever told you that is someone who does not live in JP. I bought 3 homes here over the past 17 years. Its a wonderful place to live and it's very safe. a car is great to have but we have a great Bus service and 2 Train lines into town
i love jamaica plain i love the culture. sont be scared everywhere you go there will be danger i dont think JP is that type of place i went to Greater Egleston Comm High School for 4 years. it's great
Nice movie, JP is a great neighborhood, within blocks you can go from city streets to giant green space. BTW, did someone actually write it got "too ethnic?" I have to say the one really annoying thing about Boston is the underhanded racism...
J.P. got a little 'too' ethnic for its own good in the 70s and early 80s. Crime was abhorrent and a lot of good people fled for the safety of their families. We weren't so lucky and had to stay. Ahhh, the stories I could tell: stolen bikes, break-ins, murdered pets...what a place! It's calmed down a bit now, but I would've rather grown up in the burbs!
Very nice comment, Cassadine1966. I wasn't here in the 70s and 80s though, so I can't really respond. But I will anyway. People stayed and did pretty well for themselves, thank you very much. I want to see this movie made! Fundraiser screening soon?
Ahhh...JP. I miss the days when my home would get broken into. The crack pipes on my front sidewalk. And the Boston Police would show up promptly 2 and a half hours after I would call them. And the smell of stale beer and urine at Forest Hills...Ahhh, the memories.
i cried. i love jamaica plain so much. i go to skool in that peiece of shit west roxbury and JP for some reason has a bad rep but its the best place on earth.
Hey hey You Tubers. What a great video.....I grew up in JP, havent really been back since I joined the Navy in 79. Man it was great to see my old stomping grounds...especially Doyles...and we all know why

Great job -- inclusive and real. Love seeing Rhea Becker in her historian role!

They make JP sound like such a bad place, but it looks pretty good here.

J.P. Licks! Good ice cream--brought back memories. I used to live in Mission Hill, which is just north of J.P., and has similar demographics.
