He let off the gas and you will notice the brake lights on the cop car and the blinker on the car he was tailgating at :39....they then both merged (still tailgating mind you) after the van moved forward because the van kept its same speed (the speed limit) . All of the traffic was going the same speed EXCEPT the pirate who was tailgating....PERIOD.
The passing lane does not give anyone the right to speed or tailgate.

Around here, cops sometimes drive ~5 mph below the speed limit in the left lane just to look people over. Then if someone won't pass them, they slow down until they do pass, then whip over and tailgate them for awhile until they can dream up an excuse to pull them over.

I usually am against the police because I don't believe there is any true justice out there, but I have to (as much as it burns) stand up for the officer here. The outside lane is not for people doing the speed limit. It's for passing. If you watch the video again, the far right lane is going faster than the followed car. He let off the gas and you will notice the brake lights on the cop car and the blinker on the car he was tailgating at :39....they then both merged (still tailgating mind you) after the van moved forward because the van kept its same speed (the speed limit) . All of the traffic was going the same speed EXCEPT the pirate who was tailgating....PERIOD.
The passing lane does not give anyone the right to speed or tailgate.

Actually... I COMPLETELY agree with this cop's use of power to move a vehicle from the left lane that was impeding the flow of traffic. The LEFT lane is NOT for STUPID PEOPLE. This cop did NOTHING wrong. He followed for a time giving the lead driver an opportunity to move to the right, and then used his authority to MOVE them to the right. Frankly, I wish he had given them a citation. Read your state driver's handbook, and move to the right.

I see a law enforcement officer clearly giving that driver an opportunity to move forward and clear the left "passing" lane, and when that driver doesn't comply he uses his lights and siren to move that driver. You see what you want to see. You are ALWAYS looking for the bad in a situation. Here, the cop is in the right.

@RP4409 NO... I never said it was okay to speed. What I said was; the left lane is a "passing lane." ANYONE in the left lane should be "PASSING" if you are not traveling fast enough to pass the car ahead of you then you should NOT BE IN THE LEFT LANE. That's the law. One does NOT excuse the other. If you're speeding you're in the wrong. If you're in the left lane, and you're not passing, and immediately moving back to the right, you're in the wrong.

This happened in New Jersey, it was a topic on talk radio for a little bit. The road they're on is I 295. Kudos to this trooper! As someone who regularly travels this stretch of highway, I can personally attest to how aggravating having a slow poke driver in the hammer lane can be. The trooper also did them a favor by not giving them a ticket.Let this be a lesson to you non driving bastards out there; if you insist on driving 50 mph on the busiest road in NJ, GET THE F*CK OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!!

The law in NJ is "keep right except to pass". I see cops, especially State Troopers pull the "bulldozer" move all the time, clearing people like this out of the left lane. Nothing worse than some asshole that creates a rolling traffic jam at 70 mph. I hate cops in general, and I dont agree with him following the guy over the lanes, but I have no issue with him clearing someone out of the passing lane.

@AmsterdamHeavy ......In my opinion they did see him tailgating in the rear view mirror but they could not slam on the breaks because he was following so close...they could not get over because of the minivan in the lane next to them and if they were to speed to overtake the mini van they could get a ticket.
The point is.... the pirates tailgating put them in that position. To me it looks like they were slowing down to merge right behind the van and the pirate was just an impatient douche.

Around here, cops sometimes drive ~5 mph below the speed limit in the left lane just to look people over. Then if someone won't pass them, they slow down until they do pass, then whip over and tailgate them for awhile until they can dream up an excuse to pull them over.

I usually am against the police because I don't believe there is any true justice out there, but I have to (as much as it burns) stand up for the officer here. The outside lane is not for people doing the speed limit. It's for passing. If you watch the video again, the far right lane is going faster than the followed car. Also, the officer here stayed behind this car as to protect it from traffic. Traffic control for once that is justified. FTP....just not this time. P.S tailgate cops. Best ever

@RP4409 Come to NY state. If a cop is breaking the law speeding in the fast lane and you follow him (a car length) it doesn't matter how fast the bitch goes, he won't pull you over. At least...every time I go on the interstate (twice a week) I've never had a problem. 65mph here, but traffic tends to stay 80mph. Above that and you're stupid.

@RP4409 I love your videos, keep up the awesome work, but here you really are wrong. Going slow in the passing lane is more dangerous than the tailgating that the cop did. This cop used common sense to get idiots out of the left lane, which is something I wish I could do.

Going with the flow of traffic is NOT dangerous. The left lane is not for speeding its for the non -exiting general flow of traffic. If you're speeding in that lane then YOU have the problem not them.
People driving slow in the left lane annoy me too but you don't have to act like a jackass and threaten people because you feel you're entitled to a speed lane all to yourself.

@RP4409 Sorry for the double post, but i have also seen cops use their power to take dangerous advantage of street laws (although i think this situation was justified) by turning on sirens and lights just to run red lights that there was room to get through, etc

@IndomitusLupus Left lane was steadily going faster than other 3. Right lane will have merging traffic sooner or later. So technically the left lane was going faster, just not as fast as the cop wanted it to...i wouldve just hit the breaks and said i saw a squirrel. Fuck that cop.

Brake check please. lol I once had a Texas State Trooper do this at night. Once I was able to pull to the right he shot his "side"bar spot on me. I was pulling a camper with my children in the car. Traffic didn't allow me to just jump out of the way either. One day these f()ckers are going to pay big time!

In California the police are not supposed to break any rules of the road un less they have their lights & siren on. Period. NOT lights or siren, but lights & siren. So when you see the CHP hauling butt down the freeway WITHOUT their lights & siren on they are breaking the law. Gee, wonder if the CHP ever get any tickets?
