  • Wow I forgot about this song!! What a great piece. This "Tape" came out the week I moved to Clearwater, Florida. Listened to it until it wore the heck out. Thanks for the memories.

  • Great song Jimmy.

  • I love this song! Its amazing how it seems to folow right along with Jimmy's book 'Tales from Margaritaville'. I don't know which came first, the movie or the book, but you can't go wrong with either!

  • The song came first. The book was written as an expansion of the songs. Movie even later. :)

  • It also continues with the book, "A Salty Piece of Land".

  • this song helps me get through the day i have it on my mp3 player thank jimmy great song

  • I was living in the Florida Keys when Jimmy made this video. It was the 80's when Jimmy made this video.

That drive in theatre was located on Stock Island just a short drive north of Key West.

The 80's was a great time to live in the Keys. I was managing a radio station in those days and Jimmy cut a lot of our station jingles. He was just starting out in those days. I would love to re live those days in the Florida Keys.

  • I was down there then as well...A guy named Tom Sawyer was mayor I belv.. Hail the Conch Republic!

  • Today is the 8th annual Dale Earnhardt Day. Jimmy Buffett was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt and he changed the lyrics to this song after his death. This was a song played at his televised memorial service. This song brings back memories.

  • I sure miss Dale Earnhardt, alot of Jimmy's songs remind me of him. It's cool that a few of my favorite musicians appreciated my favorite athlete. Thanks for mentioning that.

  • Just wanted to clear up the confusion. Donna owned and raised Spot from a colt. She couldn't keep him in the Keys so in 84 Andrea Sante made the connection for Spot to become a member of our family. Because of Woody Charles Spot was in the Jimmy Buffett Video. Spot was always a member of Donna's family, and Donna was friends with Jimmy. We both loved Spot. He added so much to our lives.

  • I am very sorry to hear Donna passed away and would like to get in touch with Valerie, her daughter. I have so many great pictures from the Jimmy Buffett Video to share. Spot was in all kinds of events including Drill Team, Beach Rides, Burdines advertisement with Christy Turlington, and he was the beloved lead horse for the South Florida Trail Riders' of Dade County Parade Team under the direction of Jan Linville.

  • Brian, Philip and our unborn son Jason Wayne were all a part of "Take Another Road". We spent 3 days filming a video of 4 minutes. Brian can be seen walking Spot onto the boat and driving our truck and trailer across the bridge. There are hours of great footage somewhere of Spot unseen. I asked for a copy of this extra film after the release but the producers said they couldn't do that. Maybe one day?

  • It's a miracle Spot survived; and it's a funny story of how we filmed him running free though the water. After Spot cleared the water and the make shift human barricade, Brian had to chase after him all the way from the beach to US 1. I have 8 mm film of the making of this video and hope to have it converted so it can be posted on You Tube. If you want to know more about Spot send an email to Leah at SignsByDiamond at aol.

  • It means, take the smart road.

  • I love this song so much.

  • Ur a legend Jimmy, Bonnie Scotland luvs u

  • very frat

  • A friend of mine was the owner of the horse. The horse's name was "Spot."

  • Had this song going while driving down the Padre National Seashore. I totally lived it.

  • There's nothing like getting away from it all, and headin south for some sun.

  • Lived in Miami for 24 years, been in Maryland near DC for 18 years, married, not always happily and for the past few years I've come to realize how different and better my life would've been if I'd stayed there and though you can't recapture the past, I might go back there. Sexy woman, no snow or cold, sunny days and romantic nights.

  • how bout wisconsin? we got plenty of coast lines, and alpine valley....

  • im from Durand!! And yes we do have great coastlines. Just make sure you go visit during the dead heat of summer or you're gonna freeze your butt off on Superior.

  • as a florida native, and a huge buffett fan, of course, doesnt matter if ur from fl. tx. mt. al. ca. list goes on, this man will never be replaced, or forgotten, has a way of grabbing all of us in our individual hidden "dreams", some of us can live it, sadly, some cannot yet, sep, for the ones who cant, gives hope and a tunnel to channel through!! FINS UP parrot heads! the man is makin', and livin' what we need to hear!!!! 10-4 to u jimmy!! 2nd generation p-head!!!

  • I had a horse when younger that looked just like this one and I miss him very much.

  • If you have ever read "A Salty Piece of Land" by Jimmy Buffett, you'll find that this song parallels with the book.

  • Actually this song parallels with the short story from Tales from Margaritaville, "Take Another Road". In fact the entire "Off to see the Lizard" album goes with the Tales From Margaritaville book. "A Salty Piece of Land" was rest of the Tully Mars story which was written about . So in a sense you are correct but there was more to it.

  • o! i've only read "A Salty Piece of Land" so i guess i'll have to check the other stories out!

  • I loved that book!

I cried when a certain person died. I won't say who in case I spoil it for others. (CH)

    I'm such a sap.

Yeah, the first part of the Tully Mars story is in the beginning of "Tales from Margaritaville."

Have you read "Where's Joe Merchant?"

Check it out if you haven't. It's more flying than fishing, but still well worth every page.

  • Little do people know that this the actual drive-in on Key West. Obviously closed when this video was shot. Now built over with regret from locals who wish it never happened. My parents talked of it over the years from when they lived there. It hurts to see it in this video. Oh well, I still love it there. Long live Summerland Key. From a true Florida native.

  • no way ! my teacher/mom's boyfriend

is IN THIS VIDEO :) haha,

he played one of the dudes riding in the car @ the drive in :)

he has pics of those girls playin waitresses ! :D lol, sorry i think its cool

  • When Dale Earnhardt was killed on Feb. 18,of 2001, Jimmy Buffett changed the lyrics of this song from the lines that go "Follow The Equator Like That Ole' Articulator" to the lines:"Follow The Equator Like That Ole' Intimidator". They played this song at Dale's televised memorial service on the Wednesday following his fatal accident on the last lap of the Daytona 500. Everytime I hear this song, I think about him. There are many people who still miss Dale.

  • Not too surprising---Mark was the Articulator, Dale was the Intimidator---

    "Another Road, to Another Time"

  • Every time I hear this song, I think about Dale Earnhardt. I miss him dearly.

  • same

  • Holy Crap---Never expected to find this!!!!

Jimmy is much more than Margaritaville---

    (we all know that) ;>)

  • thats right

  • ahhh ... come on jimmy go back to being like this ...

  • to be honest dont understand the video

    but good song

  • You have to read the book. The song is about Tully Mars and his horse Mr. Twain. ;)

  • Really great song. Kind of has a timeless quality about it. I can remeber listening to this in the car on long trips with my dad. Good times!

  • Danny,

I re-visited the video and noticed that my first response went unposted which makes the second response seem presumptive.

SPOT was a half-Thoroughbred registered appaloosa horse of amazingly unique (at that time) coloring and incredible temperament (at any time, ever). Donna (Clark/Currie), my friend of many years, provided the horse to her friend Jimmy Buffett for the video which was shot in 1988 or 1989 when Spot was about 18 years old.

  • Thank you for your response, almost forgot about my comment here haha. I was wondering how exactly you know Teri, and if you don't mind, what is your name?

I tried sending a Message but it said I had to be on your friends list.

    Thanks, Danny.

  • While I will not mention my name, believe me I knew both SPOT and her owner very well. Few of us knew "Teri" well and I have no idea where she might be now. Both SPOT and Donna are deceased.

  • I love reading comments on these videos. Some of them anyway. Knowing the story behind making the video makes it even more interesting. After reading the books that tell the story of Tully Mars and his travels with his horse, I watch this video and it takes me back to my childhood and the drive ins and also the times spent at the beach. Song is great too. One of Jimmy's best I think.

  • Ok thanks for telling me that

  • Anyone know who this horse is? I currently obtained a painting of this horse, and would like to find out who the Artist is (Teri is the only name on it).

  • Danny:

The Teri who painted the picture did so in about 1973 or 1974 when I first met Donna and when Spot was about 2 or 3 years old. The only thing that any of us can remember is that Teri was a nursing student at that time and that she painted the picture from a photograph which I took. The most remembered painting ever done of SPOT was done by Louis Ullman and remains the property of Donna's daughter Valerie and continues to hang on the wall of her family home.

  • Awesome. Didn't know he had a video for this one. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Sorry Parrotheads, forgot Salty Piece of Land, another good book. The whole Tales from Margaritavision, Live by the bay, and the Wrigley field, and the mini matinee, Heck they are all good. I guess you have all seen Jimmy perform live. If you haven't you all missed it. I always enjoyed them when I was in St. Louis. If you haven't seen him. DO IT!!!

  • My fave Buffet video (small exception for the La Vie Dansante..very funny) Anyway, this one is best, tears me up. "take another road....:"

  • wow...i haven't heard this song in years. Awesome! Where did you find these vids at (if you don't mind me asking)?

  • It's from the Tales From Margaritavision video.

  • Thanks for reminding me of that. I have read "Tales from Margaritaville" and "Where is Joe Bama?" I love all three. Haven't read pirate looks at 50 yet, but I'll get around to it since I'm now 48...LOL

  • You'll love Pirate looks at 50.

  • yes you will. real fun look at his whole 50 birthday experience. I also loved "A salty piece of land". Great book.

  • As always that is the tipical Jimmy. Always a hit. I am a diehard Parrothead from Pennsylvania. Jimmy rocks!!

  • im a transplanted texan die hard parrot head

  • Thanks for posting one of my favoite JB songs. Sometimes we all need to "Take Another Road". Just remember, if it leads to your Bama Breeze make sure you have a designated driver for the trip home.

  • aubman, you need to read the first short story from the "tales form margaritaville" book. It is called "take another road" and is the start of the story of Tully Mars and his troubles and how he got to the point where aspl starts. You are right though, "A Salty Piece of Land" is a great book. Did you get the hard copy with the cd in it with "A Salty Piece of Land" song? Mtstreet I loved all of Jimmy's books also. I am in the middle of reading "a pirate looks at fifty" again right now.

  • accualy this was from a video he had, aubman didn't put that on there, i have the video and thats what it said so it is there fault

  • This song must have been the inspiration for his novel, "A Salty Piece of Land". Whenever I want to sail away from life's troubles, I'll read this book. I've already read the book three times.

  • This video was part of " Tales from Margaritaville". You have to read that to fully get everything from ASPL. Great book to read. I have all of JB books, and have seen him numerous times.

  • This is all-time favorite Jimmy Buffett song. Thanks for posting it.

  • Jimmy Buffet is the SHIT!

  • this one's from the " Off To See The Lizard" album...great vid...if I'm not mistaken, the drive-in is the old one in Key West....

  • definitely not one of his most popular songs, I've seen him about 15x and never seen him play this one, but man, what a great song....timeless.

  • OMG, he just had to add the pony to the video! Made me cry! LOL Thanks to who ever posted this song!

  • I discovered this song when I was particularly disenchanted with my job. Yes, I know about the song "It's My Job", and it helped, but I needed something else to soothe my jagged soul. About 3 years ago I was on the beach with friends and had all of my "Jimmy" stacked in my MP3 player. I listened to "the usual" without much thought, then this song came on, and I had a TOTALLY different view of things. Jimmy's music heals me when I'm down or confused. He is an AWESOME man!

  • This is great! It reminds me a bit of his earlier stuff. Speaking of which if you are a Buffet fan check out his 'Before The Salt' CD or Album.

  • This 'is' his old stuff... metaphorically speaking. His words transcend time... Thank you Jimmy!
