Ha Ha, LA- not Los Angeles. I definitely KNEW they meant Lower Alabama. Then again, some of you were quicker and said Louisiana. I'd say most of my life was like this except we had seat belts. As my dad would say, "your grandaddy would be rollin' over in his grave if he knew people were sellin'' bottled water. Then again, he might do the same if he saw me at 21 with Bucky hair. Me-born 1980 N. AL, Dad-1951 S. GA, Grandaddy-1901 S. GA.
"all we had was friends, and they were outside"..i miss those days :/ yes, being dragged inside by your parents, and so dirty they thought you'd never come clean :)
Not every kid made the team when they tried, gave you something to work towards. when we played little league there was only ONE winning team, either you won or you lost, now they play and everybody wins..no losers, how does that work out? Parents are setting there kids up for disaster, wait till they get out in the real world thinking there always gonna be winners
It was a different world. Less PC people to divert the way you want to live. Today if you told your neighbor that your mother had your granddaughter and made her pick a branch off of a Willow tree to discipline her you will get a call from social services. My, my have things changed. Keep it real and you will shine on!
This song is so true to life for me. I grew up in LA (no, not Los Angeles) and I was outside for hours and hours out of the day. I was dragged inside for meals, and at the end of the day, I had a ring of dirt around my neck at bath time from where my shirt had been. And, yes, my mother drank whiskey and I did get my dad's belt when I misbehaved. But, my twin sister and I had the best childhood ever and I wouldn't change anything in the world.
I remember I was always out playing with my friends. One day,we were trying to outrun the rain. As we were nearing each of our houses, we say our good byes and confirm when to meet the next day. No body got wet! I love my childhood. Kids now, they don't know what they missed!

And people think we have progressed. Listen to the song again. Who says you can't go back. Do it for your children. It begins with you.
