guys, i gots a problem... my friend gave me his old motherboard, and idk what it is. The chips are Intel but they all say secret, when u turn it on it says "Evaluation use only", the serial number gives me nothing, and the Intel software that detects what drivers u need cant even figure it out. in computer properties it says the processor is a Pentium III xeon but CPU-ID says its a core 2 quad Q9550. I'm so confused...help?

@TheRealFurryFox Depends on your budget imo. If you have enough money for the i5, go for it. If you can't afford an i5, go for a cheaper AMD quad core.

core 2 duo has prove that it was wrong idea to introduce netburst pentium 4 rather than stick with their current p3, high frequency my ass...i had a p4 2.0ghz(willamette) and it ran only a bit faster than my pentium 2 350mhz on most of game at the time O_O(on win2000 back to the time) i must say p4 is one of piece of junk at all time!

@hanrinch its all about the cache. if u don't have a good cache then the processors junk.

it's not just about cache size but cache latency/brench prediction& prefetcher unit counts/retiring order buffer counts/ FP performance (c2d has 8x of floating unit&sse execution unit over p4)and sse data width/ instruction issue width+ 4 execution unit + 4 decoder ( c2d was 4 issue wide per unit vs p4's 1 issue per unit, while p4 only had 1 decoder...). overall c2d is more than 10x faster than p4 in ipc per clock., not to mention nehalem&sandy bridge
