wow. I remember being in the middle of that crowd. Hey Irene... you out there? Remember this? Wild, wild night. Lots of good party people but also a bunch of dickheads who couldn't handle their beer.
Yeah I was there I remember this as if it was only yesterday, It only takes a hand full of dickheads to ruin something fantastic, I do not know what happend to the offenders but I hope someone taught them a ripe and royal lesson .
My mate nearly drowned that night, falling over the side of the pier into the oily water of Sydney Harbour. We would have gotten him out of the drink sooner, but we were rolling around laughing our tits off at him. He drank about 10 gallons of sea water trying to climb back up one of them slippery mooring poles. What a fuckin' laugh!!!
For those of you old enough to remember the angels in their hay day as I do. To say they were popular is an understatment. At one stage in the early 80s 11 consecutive concerts broke house records. Quite frankly if you werent in line early you had no chance of getting in. They had to play at the biggest venues. I for one was manicly early to be right up front. One damn night at the bexely north hotel I was about 500th inline ggrrr.
This freaks me to the max. I was there as a 16 yo Angels fan. I vividly remember this incident clearly. I even remember the announcer saying what he said. All these years later I am still a huge Angels fan.
To the asshole who nailed Doc: I hope your happy. You ended a kick ass New Years Eve party for several thousand people. Not to mention severely injuring someone who just wanted everyone to have a good time. I really, REALLY hope that you got your ass kicked in the parking lot.
you dont go to see any band to do that that just ruins it for everyone! what wankers! the angels are such a great aussie pub rock band and a huge part of australian music icons man i feel sorry for nee's getting knocked out
I'm pretty sure it was bass player Chris Bailey that says at 3:31 " i hope your satisfied you idiots."
When i watched this live i initially thought Doc was lying down as part of the act. It happened so quickly and the bottle was thrown from the side, which was hard to pick up. Especially for me, as i had more than a few beers under my belt at the time.
You can hear the thud of a bottle landing on stage at 3:24 You can also see bottles and cans flying from 2:03
Love how the announcer keeps it all "up beat"...what a disgrace and the crowd can be heard singing the "more beer" chant!!! They are utter scum...it was 1979 so I hope karma caught up with them!!
And to the fuckwits who were throwing bottles, you should be sterilised. Its pricks like you who ruin it for others. Stay of the grog if you cant handle being a fucking loser.
Imagine if that happened at a "Big Day Out",the person would have his balls ripped ova his head.Anyway, good to see Buzzstrup,Brewsters,Baily & Neeson back, saw them this year in the reunion tour, good ole OZ rock, the way it always has been. Thanks for times boys.
Some people make me really sick and the bastard that threw that is one of them. Hope they got what they deserved....saw The Angels in Melbourne on their anniversary tour and I love them now as much as I did back then, got a great kiss from Doc
Maybe someone took him literally when he said "give me a whiskey." My brother had the Face to Face album. I guess it was different from the original release in that it had stuff from several of their Australian releases. I got the CD a while back though. Excellent from start to finish.
Soundz2 it was Doncaster Melbourne. I was in the car yesterday and I heard no secrets on FM radio and it got me thinking how lucky I was seeing this band again after so many years. I just love the guitar crunch and the paranoid lyrics.
lovely entry into 1980... fuck those bogan cunts who fuck it up for everybody else. I really do hope the idiot who threw the bottle got beaten up for it. If your blood doesn't boil when seeing this, you're a cunt!
Well there you goes folks The Angels/Angel City playing in front of 100,000 fans and a few idiots. The song is Marsellies, The venue is Sydney Opera House, New Years Eve 31/12/1979. The concert ended in a riot. Doc K O'ed by a bottle from some idiot. Concerts banned at the Sydney Opera House until 1996 (Crowed House). A piece of infamous rock history probably not seen since the National Live TV/FM dual cast. Long Live the Angels/ Angel City. World Visions 2008 big thx you have uncovered a gem.

4JayeP... you like music and Angel City, right?
Why are you doing exactly what your post pretends to detest?
I'm happy and the person you cut down is most likely happy, too!
You...lol...yo man, have a piece of cake and eat it, too!
li'l bitch.

@muzikkraz You are happy that Doc got hit in the head with a bottle and was knocked out? You are truly a complete asshole.

4JayeP...
I'd never be happy to see anyone get hit in the head, with a bottle or otherwise.
Maybe you didn't understand my original post. I'm sorry if you didn't, no way that I would be what you said I am.
Oh well, the internet is full of misunderstandings and I think this is one of them.
Be well and continue to love music as much as I.

Has anyone got any other parts of this concert? It was a great one and I remember being there.

If you look closely at the 26 second mark looks like a dead body is dragged off stage!

Saw them last night paly this on Face to Face 30th Anniversay Tour , they still got it. Really professional. The venue was sold out.
Got to meet the band afterwards they were making a fortune from merchandise sales signing everything. Cool T Shirts, stubbie holders, DVD's.
The highlight besides Marseilles, Take A Long Line was probably the rarely played Devils Gate.
Don't miss seeing them while you can.
