Mustang... LOL i've beaten a Mercedes SL500 with my stock 2009 WRX, that's 5.0L V8 right there and i kicked his ass all the way to 120mph. The owners WTF face was priceless.
@cheekocheeko96 Depends on which mustang and who's driving. I've personally beaten several STi's at the dragstrip with my 98 Cobra. Stock in the same hands, both cars run about a 13.3, so it's a drivers race. I'd need a full suspension overhaul to keep up on a track with turns though.
My dad raced my friends 02 wrx with full catback in his 03 gt mustang. And he beat the wrx so bad was barley in 3rd gear when my friend was ready to go in 5th.
@wrx4life44 my friend has a modded mustang gt. he got 4wd and can spin the tires going 60. subaru will take you anywhere and fast as hell. they both have theyre ups and downs
@rsboy5 My cobra does just fine in Colorado snow. Then again, unless you're west of the divide, you don't get much snow anyways, so snow isn't really an issue. Colorado isn't Alaska.

Nothing wrong with good old fashion power, but the 05-09 mustangs sucked. Too heavy, and for a 4.6l V8 barely squeezing out 300 hp...not impressive. And @AbsoluteyAmerican...man...youre pathetic. I bought my WRX with my money I earned from working in the Army. And those "Japs" can easily get 300hp from an engine not even half the size of that stang. In the overall world of cars, Americas lagging pretty far behind.

You say "V8 are more powerful and faster than any 4 cylinder" well, look at the early 1980s when the 302 V8 mustang had a whopping 165hp. The WRX STi is 300hp. Sorry, but that's a 4 cylinder that's more powerful than the V8. Hell, the 2004 Mustang GT was 260hp, still less than the 04 STi, and a full second slower in 1/4 as well. And worse handling than the STi.

@o56kid First, they don't regulate emissions by downgrading fuel. Second, I own a mustang with a 4.6. I know how they run, and what works. High compression isn't part of it. Forced induction is. Grammar and spelling are basic skills, and misspelling words is about the textual equivalent of having a raspy southern drawl and saying "ya'll" every other word. But you still didn't explain what the EPA has to do with the Subaru being a faster overall car.
@Milehighsnake98 The EPA is responsible for ruining fuel back in the 70s. No lead in fuel meant no more 13:1 motors. they are setting all kinds of mandates for auto makers and other engine manufactures I fall timber for a living, back in the 90s, saws had exhaust ports approximately 3 times the size as they do today, and the carbs are limited to run as lean as possible, ALL because of the epa. To say compression is not part of making a motor run good is DUMB.
@o56kid Even in the late 60s there were no 13:1 factory engines except one or two factory race engines that were stuffed in production cars. Lead or no, gasoline was much worse in 1970 than today. In fact, gas in the 60s and 70s would be about the equivalent of a 65-70 octane compared to todays fuels. And considering the fact that a mustang with "just" 9.8:1 compression runs better than 95% of those 11:1+ muscle cars, and that the mod motor doesn't respond well to compression increases...
@Milehighsnake98 Take a look at the VAST amount of cars produced in the 60s that cannot run todays fuel. And it is not just ethanol that will damage those old high compression motors, the gasoline does not contain a lot of components that prevent detonation and hot spots. I don't care what the octane of a fuel is, if you can run it and not have detonation you are good to go. After all lower octane yields higher HP numbers, thats why people use the lowest they safely can.

Octane ratings are the AKI, Anti-Knock Index. This measures a fuels resistance to...DETONATION. The cars in the 60s can't use todays fuel because today's fuel doesn't have lead. That's all. The Lead in old fuel served as a lubricant and ignition stabilizer, I would say about your statement "don't care about the octane" that is true when talking specifically {ignition of fuel} ONLY. However taking into account turbo gum, exhaust back pressure, operating temps, residual mixture ATDC, you are really missing afew vital OCTANE related issues.
@o56kid What do you think forced induction accomplishes? It raises volume & compression. That is why force fed motors usually only need 8.5:1 to run good, more than that and you had better be running some good fuel and you had better have your heads on TIGHT!!

Whats it matter, the WRX is about $7k cheaper, it's real life, not video game drag racing. If you save money on the car thats more money for the engine. It didn't look biased at all, especially since the driver of the STI doesn't seem to know what he is doing, hence the over-rev. The Subaru looked pretty much stock, it doesn't appear so to you because you have failed to realise that it is a WRX STI. Which is almost the car directly from the Rally course. Amercian sports cars used to be the best, but those days have ended. Muscle, unfortuneately, is over. They are trying to make a comeback but I don't know how that will turn out.

2. Anyone can over-rev / hit fuel cut, specially in first gear since Revs go up so fast.
3. My Impreza is not stock, its been upgraded with HKS GTRS Turbo kit, ACT clutch and flywheel, bigger injectors, Walbro Fuel pump, not cat exhaust system, etc. That Stang was modded too.

I explained exactly what happened that night. The ¨over-rev¨ was just that, i hit the ¨fuel cut¨ in 1st gear and that was it, by the time i shifted to 2nd the Stang was pulling 2 cars on me. Different story from a dig!! though.
I used to drive a Stang 5.0 and i loved it, and i love my WRX too, they r 2 different kinds of cars, each have its pros and cons.
No need to state which is better, both r great cars to have.

The WRX won't be able to get much more in terms of hp or torque because it was modded in the factory about as much as it can be while still being reliable. A v8 is reliable for and able to handle much much much more hp. If the mustang had all of the factory mods the wrx had it would be no competition for the mustang.

In Australia, most WRX owners buy the car out of their own pockets and I can't see why it would be different in the US. A used WRX isn't that expensive and a brand new one is within a lot of peoples budget. Why would you even think their daddy bought it for them? You say "V8 are more powerful and faster than any 4 cylinder" well, look at the early 1980s when the 302 V8 mustang had a whopping 165hp. The WRX STi is 300hp. Sorry, but that's a 4 cylinder that's more powerful than the V8. Hell, the 2004 Mustang GT was 260hp, still less than the 04 STi, and a full second slower in 1/4 as well. And worse handling than the STi.

@o56kid First, they don't regulate emissions by downgrading fuel. Second, I own a mustang with a 4.6. I know how they run, and what works. High compression isn't part of it. Forced induction is. Grammar and spelling are basic skills, and misspelling words is about the textual equivalent of having a raspy southern drawl and saying "ya'll" every other word. But you still didn't explain what the EPA has to do with the Subaru being a faster overall car.

No lead in fuel meant no more 13:1 motors. they are setting all kinds of mandates for auto makers and other engine manufactures I fall timber for a living, back in the 90s, saws had exhaust ports approximately 3 times the size as they do today, and the carbs are limited to run as lean as possible, ALL because of the epa. To say compression is not part of making a motor run good is DUMB.

@o56kid Even in the late 60s there were no 13:1 factory engines except one or two factory race engines that were stuffed in production cars. Lead or no, gasoline was much worse in 1970 than today. In fact, gas in the 60s and 70s would be about the equivalent of a 65-70 octane compared to todays fuels. And considering the fact that a mustang with "just" 9.8:1 compression runs better than 95% of those 11:1+ muscle cars, and that the mod motor doesn't respond well to compression increases...

And it is not just ethanol that will damage those old high compression motors, the gasoline does not contain a lot of components that prevent detonation and hot spots. I don't care what the octane of a fuel is, if you can run it and not have detonation you are good to go. After all lower octane yields higher HP numbers, thats why people use the lowest they safely can.

The Lead in old fuel served as a lubricant and ignition stabilizer, I would say about your statement "don't care about the octane" that is true when talking specifically {ignition of fuel} ONLY. However taking into account turbo gum, exhaust back pressure, operating temps, residual mixture ATDC, you are really missing afew vital OCTANE related issues.

@o56kid What do you think forced induction accomplishes? It raises volume & compression. That is why force fed motors usually only need 8.5:1 to run good, more than that and you had better be running some good fuel and you had better have your heads on TIGHT!!

The only vehicle available then was a Toyota Fortuner 4.0L V6 (SUV) and the camera man had never done this before, so thats why it came out this way:

Whats it matter, the WRX is about $7k cheaper, it's real life, not video game drag racing. If you save money on the car thats more money for the engine. The WRX is much more efficient with it's 260hp compared to the mustang's 330. You're just another ignorant ford lover that chooses displacement over technology. It's 2010 noob, grow up.

It didn't look biased at all, especially since the driver of the STI doesn't seem to know what he is doing, hence the over-rev. The Subaru looked pretty much stock, it doesn't appear so to you because you have failed to realise that it is a WRX STI. Which is almost the car directly from the Rally course. Amercian sports cars used to be the best, but those days have ended. Muscle, unfortuneately, is over. They are trying to make a comeback but I don't know how that will turn out.

2. Anyone can over-rev / hit fuel cut, specially in first gear since Revs go up so fast.
3. My Impreza is not stock, its been upgraded with HKS GTRS Turbo kit, ACT clutch and flywheel, bigger injectors, Walbro Fuel pump, not cat exhaust system, etc. That Stang was modded too.
So next time you make a comment about a car, do some research, cuz you r the one who doesn´t know shit about cars and driving.

I explained exactly what happened that night. The ¨over-rev¨ was just that, i hit the ¨fuel cut¨ in 1st gear and that was it, by the time i shifted to 2nd the Stang was pulling 2 cars on me. Different story from a dig!! though.
I used to drive a Stang 5.0 and i loved it, and i love my WRX too, they r 2 different kinds of cars, each have its pros and cons.
No need to state which is better, both r great cars to have.

The WRX won't be able to get much more in terms of hp or torque because it was modded in the factory about as much as it can be while still being reliable. A v8 is reliable for and able to handle much much much more hp. If the mustang had all of the factory mods the wrx had it would be no competition for the mustang.
