@Pynaegan SPOLERS!!! After the protagonist revives his dead mentor, they prepare to "fight" the dragon. The mentor in on a cliff and the protagonist has to destroy a talisman that will make his mentor explode and kill the dragon. The dragon eventually captures the mentor and the protagonist destroys the talisman, making explode his mentor and killing the dragon. No big fight, no epic climax, just that. DX<
No apologies necessary. Actually what you just described "was" the climactic ending. There was no other way to kill the dragon. The old wizard knew this, it was his over all plan to die killing the dragon in the process. Remember the beginning when the wizard describes the dragons constant pain. For the wizard it was a quest to put the dragon out of it's misery. The glaive forged to kill the wyrm would have failed in the hands of a capable warrior.
This movie looks better in this video than it has ever looked to me before. Why is that? Is it the music? The widescreen which I've never seen Dragonslayer on? Whatever it is..this music video makes me wanna watch Dragonslayer again...RIGHT NOW!
A "less nerdy" main character would defeat the point. Galen isn't a warrior, he's not even a proper sorcerer...he's a dreamer with more guts than common sense, the embodiment of every d&d nerd that ever imagined themselves capable of heroism:p
So loved this movie back in the early 80's. I was heavily into D&D back then. I still love Dragons to this day and have a collection here at the house.
What has always kept this movie under the radar is the main character is played by a dork, if Arnold would have been the lead, this movie would have shot through the roof, but it settled for the geeky dork.
I dont remember.. but someone do a video like this.. it was made from the same movie.. i wanna remember the song.. it was really amazing but i cant remember
the oldest video too was called "Dragonslayer trailer". Here appear a girl who is attacked by dragons.. and at the end of the video a baby dragon eat a leg or something like that..
Someone can helpme please? i will be very very happy if anyone do that for me :D
Thanks and great video (And sorry if this is spam..)
A King has made a pact with a dragon where he sacrfices virgins to it, and the dragon leaves his kingdom alone. An old wizard, and his keen young apprentice volunteer to kill the dragon and attempt to save the next virgin in line the Kings own daughter.
Best Dragon movie EVER. Kinda sad to be able to say that in this day in age with special effects wizardry ( pun intended ) being at the level they are.
Imagine if dragons existed and we had to go back and kill them. LOL send me back with a 20 men team of highly trained fighters with a few air support guys and me armed with a mini gun and a shotgun.
BOOM GOES THE DRAGON BOOM GOES THE LAST FEMAIL!!!!!!!! LOL!
Good job puting this together! This is one of my fave movies of all time saw it as a small child at the theater. Just bought it recently and it has aged well (almost 30 years ago!!!) and is still very enjoyable.
I saw this film when it aired on T.V over here more than 20 years ago and haven't seen it again since, I've looked around and can't find anyone who has a copy of it over here, not shops or video stores no one seems to have it here (Australia), I'd definately love to see it again.
@bonzelite I swear on every old movie clip there's ALWAYS someone complaining about how CGI sucks and how stop motion was the flawless godgiven way of making movies.
@bonzelite I agree with that point being the best dragon movie ever made, but to tell the truth, an other one comes very close to it, reign of fire, is excellent too.
I saw this movie in the theater in like 1981-82 when it was a new release. It still is awesome because the dragon LOOKS REAL!! It's not a cgi monster. I was done when you made a movie and you wanted it to look real, you used stop action photgraphy and lots of creative cinematography. Anyone can digitalize a movie to create a creature, but this is art.
Excellent film with gobsmacking vfx. Pairs nicely with Jurassic Park for a monster double bill.

It's from 1981. No CGI or any such.
It's about the era of the end of an earlier era of our world. The magic and the mystery...

totally awesome clip and music.
This is the BEST dragon film ever made. The dragon is perfect. And it's pre "CGI" shit.
So much shit is made today and this blows it totally away. This is bad ass. The eclipse sequence as the dragon lands atop the cliff is stunning.
