@Pynaegan SPOLERS!!! After the protagonist revives his dead mentor, they prepare to "fight" the dragon. The mentor in on a cliff and the protagonist has to destroy a talisman that will make his mentor explode and kill the dragon. The dragon eventually captures the mentor and the protagonist destroys the talisman, making explode his mentor and killing the dragon. No big fight, no epic climax, just that. DX<

No apologies necessary. Actually what you just described "was" the climactic ending. There was no other way to kill the dragon. The old wizard knew this, it was his over all plan to die killing the dragon in the process. Remember the beginning when the wizard describes the dragons constant pain. For the wizard it was a quest to put the dragon out of it's misery.The glaive forged to kill the wyrm would have failed in the hands of a capable warrior.

A "less nerdy" main character would defeat the point. Galen isn't a warrior, he's not even a proper sorcerer...he's a dreamer with more guts than common sense, the embodiment of every d&d nerd that ever imagined themselves capable of heroism:p

Watched this as a kid.

What has always kept this movie under the radar is the main character is played by a dork, if Arnold would have been the lead, this movie would have shot through the roof, but it settled for the geeky dork.

I saw this film when it aired on T.V over here more than 20 years ago and haven't seen it again since, I've looked around and can't find anyone who has a copy of it over here, not shops or video stores no one seems to have it here (Australia), I'd definately love to see it again.

So much shit is made today and this blows it totally away. This is bad ass. The eclipse sequence as the dragon lands atop the cliff is stunning.

I saw this movie in the theater in like 1981-82 when it was a new release. It still is awesome because the dragon LOOKS REAL!! It's not a cgi monster. I was done when you made a movie and you wanted it to look real, you used stop action photgraphy and lots of creative cinematography. Anyone can digitalize a movie to create a creature, but this is art.
