  • Gillan's screams were sampled because his voice was usually wrecked in the 90's as a result of staying up all night drinking on tour. Apparently that was one of the main reasons Blackmore got annoyed with him, that and forgetting the words.

  • Ritchie you are a great ! but " Made in Japan " is a long time ago..........

  • Well LZ might have been commercial, I'm not gonna argue with that, but sounded weak, no, you might want to check your music system pal, that's probably what sounds weak...

  • @Blushresponse2

Comparing power, Deep Purple rocks all the way on. if you compare those both LZ sound... weak. I love Led Zeppelin as I do Deep Purple, but DP have the power and might :)

  • @OathBird LZ sound weak? Is this the same band that produced songs like How many more times, Whole lotta love and Heartbreaker? You can argue that LZ and DP took different directions, wich is completely true, but neither were weak at all! They just had different influences, LZ being more bluesy and in the later days a bit more experimental with more exotic sonorities and DP carrying the classical education of Blackmore and Lord, but to call LZ weak is just plain dumb.

  • @nmiguelsimoes

I mean the heaviness. What you say is true and right but I meant simply the "power". Always Deep Purple was stronger for me, heavier.

  • @nmiguelsimoes

didnt mean something so offensive, as you said. I put it in wrong words, sorry im foreigner. they are WEAKER in sound than DP for me. they are not WEAK but not so HEAVY too.

  • Not dissing all their material, but just listen to made in japan and tell me it's not the best hard rock album of all times.. each song is a masterpiece with incredible improvisation ...

LZ seemed to be more on the pop-rock side for me, but that's me....

  • Thanks.

How can they NOT be in the Rock and roll hall of fame...

btw, those pre-recorded vocals, were cool.

  • Terrible that they were using pre-recorded vocals..They should have just dropped the song from their set.

  • @bcushing NO pre-recorded vocals, Is Jon Lord's Keyboard

  • dove lo hanno fatto sto concerto?se fossi stato piu grande ci sarei andato di sicuro!ma avevo 3 anni nel 93XD

  • gillan's struggling here, but he gives it his all-well done you old bastard-hats off to mr G!

  • Gillan ha LA voce. Nato nel 45, guardate che sa fare, cazzo. Questa è musica.

  • peccatom non esserci stata...ero troppo piccola!

    magnifica canzone....BRIVIDI

  • he is a man. his voice doesn't get that note sice the 80s

  • Gillan does use a pitch shifter I'm pretty sure I hear it.

  • jap the ahhhhs are more than one voice. there's a harmonizer or sth like that on his voice.

  • Great perfomance! Gillan sings brilliant! I can't understand why DP had produced DVD from NEC where Gillan was unable to sing if there is that concert!

  • Uhh, just imagine what Deep Purple would be today if Ritchie didn't left the band... Steve Morse is good, but in another way.

  • io li ho visti a napoli nel 97'...ma senza Ritchie è un' altra storia....

  • Unbeliveble!!!!!

  • 12 dicembre al palalottomatica!!!!!!

  • Just what I think:

Beside CIT, Gillans singing became better on this tour than it was on both 80s tours.

Also, Blackmore plays music again, instead of primary making weird noises like in the 80s, his guitar sound became more clear and better again, too.

They both had their weakest times in the 80s.

So I think 1993 was the best DP since 1973. As sad as it is, both times they were best (musically) they split.

Purple AND Blackmore were really good again in the mid 90s, but sadly separate.

  • It's to bad They had to start using pre-recorded screams for this song at this time. Gillan Started will voice problems during his stint with Sabbath. He could still hit those high screams when he was with them. Watch the Footage of them Performing Zero The Hero. It's amazing.

Gillan will always be The voice of Deep Purple. I'd rather see him at his worst than ever see another singer with Purple. You have to give it to him, He still enjoys doing it.

  • iangillancant sing has a point as does fanofeverything. I saw the '85 show in KCMO. Gillan was still able to hit A5 but he was pitchy throughout the entire concert. I'd rather hear Gillan make an effort and miss than to hear Blackmore toss off without putting anything into it. It's been a couple of decades since RB's done anything to capture my attention. The 80s versions of this song (with the organ and echo covering for Gillan) are better than this. CIT shoulda been retired 20 years ago.

  • yes, muttiplay -

    twenty years before

Gillan was in the beginning of the seventies

the best rock-vocalist on the scene along with Paul Rodgers.

Listen to his voice in 1993 -one couldn`t say this seriously in the 90ies to the present.

  • this is one of the greatest ensemble of talents ever, together with rush, LZ...

  • Adoro questa canzone e adoro questa Band.Nient'altro.

  • A Torino nel '93...e io avevo solo 2 anni...perché??

  • Deep Purple is the Ultimate Hard Rock band ever!

LZ never grew on me as a Hard Rock Band as they were too commercial and sounded weak.

All members of DP were masters/virtuosos with awsome musical powers, which is unmatched until today.

  • @seydsaba LZ too commercial? Are we listening to the same Led Zeppelin?

  • @Atm0sphere33

I'm not the biggest LZ fan either. Starting with Houses of the Holy the strayed from Hard Rock and starting playing with more accoustic guitars and Orchestras. I think that's what seydsaba was perhaps trying to say. Songs like "Kashmere" and "Over The Hills And Far Away" were far more commercial than anything DP had ever done.

  • @seydsaba right, thats a alltime classic,...

  • just so you know:

that is no effect making him, the greatest rck singer alive, singing higher.

that is jon lord playing along with his hammond

  • Compared to his fellow hard rockin' contemporaries, Gillan is still top notch!

    Long live Deep Purple.

  • You actually mean Long Live Ian Gillan or DPMK2???... Lord Blackmore Paice are the core of Deep Purple like it or not.

  • isnt it funny who a man you claim cant sing is still performing and has millions of record sales behind him!!!!!!!!if you cant make a proper musical coment then dont bloody bother!!!!!!

  • Probably my least favourite performance, well maybe the Bombay one is worse. The screams jsut sound what they are, fake.I rather hear Gillan struggling that using these types of tricks

  • che cazzo di nick iangillancantsing ahahaha

fatto apposta per prendere per il culo

in te 70's gillan was the best

  • Quiet funny that someone who has iangillancant sing in his name watches all the deep purple/ian gillan videos...

  • i cant believe he made that his name. what an asshole.

  • thanks thanks thanks for posting this video

  • Notice that IanGillanCantSing only seems to criticize Gillan on post-70s "Child in Time" performances? Something to think about.

And Roger Glover is anything but laughable, even if he does dress like a hippy sometimes.

  • But, I want to know a thing: if you don't like Ian Gillan, why you look his videos?

  • blackmore, paice, lord. the rest is just laughable.

  • you can hear the effect that makes it sound like he sings higher...milli vanilli.

  • Non dire cazzate per favore, hai detto la stessa boiata come commento al video di Child in Time del 1987 live in Austria.

  • because in that video he also sounds like he is constipated.
