  • Thanks for these video...I was about to purchase new vacuum! You guys have my business!

  • Great video! Saved me a lot of time!

  • This video was extremely helpful! Asked my husband to do it but I got tired of waiting on him to get it done. I have area rugs that I am trying to vacuum but if I lower the head all the way down it will not go (meaning the green light does NOT come on). Since I have to put it down low to pick up the dog hair but cannot, I end up with a half done job. Any suggestions on what to do here?

  • Thank you so much!! I spent an hour trying to figure it out and then thought of looking online and you helped me tremendously!! I have an older model but it is my favorite! Thanks again!!

  • but it's not pink......nor a little puff ball.

  • does anyone find it somehow fitting some vaccum cleaners are named after a piece of fluff that can swallow stuff from 3 feet away?

  • 66k ppl have looked up this vid..... dam

  • Question: Are they called Kirby vacuums because of the Nintendo character?

  • @David34343 No, Kirby (the pink puff) is called Kirby because of the vacuums.

  • Thanks for the video. I had trouble getting the roller out and your video told me I just wasn't pulling hard enough. I was afraid it was locked in somehow.

And as it happened, I was already your customer before finding this video today.

    Thanks again!

  • This was so helpful! Thank you so much for the help and now because you have done this, I will ALWAYS purchase replacement parts from you guys!!! You are like the Santa from the Mircle on 34th Street and now you have a customer for life!

  • Thanks so much..just changed the belt on my G4 that has sat in the closet for 2 years...works GREAT now!

  • Kirby belts have/had a propensity for breaking, or more accurately, melting, then snapping.

  • i though this was for the real kirby :D

  • Thank you sooo much! Now my wife won't kill me!

  • @gmoney4980 LOL. I'm so glad we could prevent an untimely death, lol. Thanks for your kind words and support of our GoVacuum video series. - Chris

  • THIS DUDE IS DEEP...THANKS FOR THE HELP MAN, THAT BELT WAS KICKIN MY BUTT!

  • Simplest thing in the world dude, ive lived with it all my life

  • Thanks, this was very helpful. Mom wanted me to replace the vacuum belt, but I don't really know much about the Kirby design, since they never allowed me to toy around with it.

And now I do! So thank you.

  • Great demo. Just the things I needed to know. Thanks. I'm remembering govacuum.com.

  • Wow thanks so much! I was having lots of trouble trying to figure out how to put on the belt of my vacuum, Worked right away, after watching this video!

  • thanks that helped alot n it was quick toooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you!! So easy watching someone do it. You explained things very well. Thank goodness you said something about the green light because I did have the brush switched around in there and would not have known.

  • just flip the brush roll around then it will work for the g3 and g4

  • Worked like a charm. Thanks!

  • Awesome! Thanks I just changed the belt of a 1975 Kirby I bought at yard a sale for $1

  • Thank you so much for this video. It is soooo helpful. I load this video up everytime I replace the belt. Thank you again for your help!!

  • Thanks for the great video. I was getting really frustrated trying to get the belt back on! =)

  • What is the best proformance kirby

  • Thx for that I have a kirby and we pay a big sum of money to get are's replaced but we don't now thx

  • @hallnoats4ever Care to share your opinion on which is the hardest in the industry if the Kirby is not? I have been doing this exact repair for 10 years, it's not difficult for me to do, but if you don't know what you're doing, then the process that you have to do is not easy by any means.

  • thanks, saved me a trip to the vacuum repair place!

  • very very helpful and straighforward. thanks a lot

  • It's nice to know how to change the belt on a Kirby, but what's even nicer is the cute guy showing us how to do it!

  • Man thankyou, we bought a second hand kirby that had this problem. Here in australia the kirbys go for $5000 and we got it for $349, all because of the belt. and you showed us how to fix it! thanks!

  • Thank you so much!! I never thought I was going to figure it out and almost just bought a new one. You ROCK!

  • OMG! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • Come on! Changing the belt on a Kirby is like falling off of a rolling log! It requires no tools, man, anyone charging to do this is a thief!

  • I'm just guessing from your feedback that you may work with your hands for a living, either a mechanic, or an appliance repair, or some kind of service work. If you know how things work, and how they come apart, and the mechanics of the belt system, you'll probably have an easier time then someone who doesn't work with their hands, or understand the mechanics of the machine. We will shoot a video of a Kirby motor change sometime, then you can see why Kirby's are so expensive to work on.

  • many people cannot change a light bulb in there own home or even fill the gas tank in their cars! I suppose if everyone could, it would put people like you and me out of business.

P.S. I would like to see that kirby motor change!

  • On a scale of 1-5 this is a 10.

  • thanx for the video you r a great help ...

  • Thank you sooo much! I got the belt changed no problem with this video. I have the Generation 3 but it still helped! I love this vacuum!

  • Thanks for helping . Read the instructions and was no help . Now it's working again . :)

  • thank you i thought i broke my moms kirby. we will go to you when we need parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chris....Good Job...I hope GoVacumn makes a fortune on Kirby belts.

  • thank you so much!

  • Ok like I NEVER comment any videos but I must thank you like everyone else here!! My aunt just put the belt and the vacuum in front of me and told me to fix it and I had no clue what to do!

    Thanks again!!

  • I agree with everyone else -- this is an awesome awesome video! I thought I was going to have to search for my manual to change the belt and within literally 10 minutes we were done start to finish after watching your video! Thanks so much for posting it!!! You are fantastic!!! :o)

  • At first, I thought I had wasted my money buying one of these, but after knowing I can get help free help like this, I think its worth every dollar. Thanks for the help!

  • Dude....You're a life saver. I was trying to figure the belt-thing out on my own with no success. I couldn't find my owner's manual neither. I took a chance that I'd find a video and BAM! ! there is was. I'm gonna buy my supplies from you from now on. Thank you soooo much. Oh, and I oiled my berings too. Thanks for that tip too!

  • Thank you! I will always order my Kirby parts from you becuase you took the time to post this. I would have never figured this out on my own.

  • i did that without watching the video and having no knowledge of how to fix it, but this video would have been alot more helpful for me to watch before i attempted it lol.

  • Thank you! help me save money .

  • You are my hero.

  • Thanks for the instructions! Very easy to follow!

  • Thanks for the demonstration. I'm usually helpless with things like this and you made it a breeze. GREAT!

  • Hey i quit cussing my machine after watching this video...thanks alot!!!

  • thank you. The belt was the problem in my sentria and this helped a lot.

  • ha i just got the EXACT same vacuum, paid $1300 for it.... and just curious wheres the gold hidden?

  • Thank you, I search and search to find an answer. The video is right on. Very helpful. I was lost without you.

  • Thank you!! I have had this thing for 10 years and forgot how to replace the belt. I thought it was broken but thankfully it wasn't.

  • THANK YOU CHRIS! This video was a lifesaver!

  • You have my undying gratitude and all my future business. I am bookmarking your website now.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!

  • yo thanks man i thought that i broke because the roller wasn't spinning. i got it to work now. thanks.

  • How is that hard? It's way easier than taking a bissel or etc apart to replace the belts in them, or every one I've ever seen.

  • Messy but it works. Thanks for the video.

  • THANK YOU!!

  • I was looking on how to replace the light on my Kirby,, still in the dark about that... But, I now know how to replace my belt, and Now my green light works,, yeehaw! Thank you so much for your video. It really helped out! AND who cares what side the light is on! :) thanks again!

  • the G3 And G4 have the magnet for the brush light on the other side so not all the brushes will work G5 to Sentria have the same brush. also wd40 will collect dirt. sew oil should be used when oiling the bearings.

  • Hi, actually that is incorrect, the G3 all the way up to Sentria have the magnet on the same side of the roller brush, I just personally went and looked at a G3 model, and then a Sentria, same side. I've always used WD-40 and never had a single problem before, WD-40 works fine, and doesn't collect dust. Sew oil is much more expensive and harder to find, but it certainly can also be used.

  • thanks my mom is tried to make me fix it too haha

  • thank you so much for your video. I have had this kirby for 3 years now that i go from my mom and every time i had to replace the belt, it was i hit and miss thank you again for this video, now i will know how to replace the belt. many many many thanks again.

  • After an hour of frustration this solved my problem in six minutes!!!! Thank you!!!

Now, if I could just figure out how to use the carpet shampoo attachments.....

  • I have a Kirby G6 and it's CRAP for the "BIG" money I paid for it!!

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!! my mother was killing me...........

  • Haha, My mother actually bought a Kirby from me when I worked there (She has since purchased a Miele from me). She always used to ask me come over and put the belt back on for her, because she could never get it on right. I decided to do this video for her, so she could see how to do it without me! I'm glad to hear it helped you out, that was our main intention of this video.

  • to day i was in a apointment showing a kerby.and i kept puting the belt on the red on red.and kept braking the belts.but now i know.thank man

  • Thanks...you just saved my marriage!!!! LOL

  • ?????????????????????????????

  • OMG! This video saved me so much frustration! I had to watch it 10 times, but it was SO WORTH IT! Thank you so much!!!

  • Thank you! I've been so frustrated not being able to get the belt to catch. Your video helped me to get it to catch on the very next try! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • umm.. I have a 1970 kirby with the origional brush roll and it works fine and looks like new. It doesnt need to be replace that often

  • No not that often. Some times the bearings go bad and the brush would need to be replaced though.

  • Whoa. This how-to video was so helpful.

    Thanks to GoVacuums from England.

If I was in USA I'd buy my gear and parts direct from you... as you have the class to do this really helpful video.

  • I figured it out. The belt was so tight that turning the locking mechanism fully around required additional strength which I was cautious of using since it felt like I would break it. So what happened was the belt wasn't stretched enough to fit over the spinning rod.

  • I have a Kirby G5, I've done exactly what you did in the video here, but the brush still won't turn. The suction is fine, everything seems fine, the brush just won't turn. The belt seems unworn and it has the Kirby name on it. Could it be the wrong model belt perhaps? It seems a little tight, like I can't turn the turning pad all the way to the red, but I see that it doesn grab it and hold it tight (seems too tight). What do you recommend?

  • Kirby's last forever, and ever. It's a great product. Thank you by the way, this is really helpfull!

  • Thank you so much for making and posting this video - by actually showing how to do it, you gave me exactly what I needed when I was trying to get my slipped belt repositioned on my Sentria (yup, these instructions work for that model, too.) You saved me from near insanity!

  • Try replacing a Dyson Clutch model belt in the same time it takes to change a Kirby belt. If the Kirby is "the most difficult" for the repairmen then you best get new staff in, I can do it in 2 minutes flat on all models!!! :P

  • You are certainly right on that one. That is our next video showing how to replace the clutch on Dyson. The Kirby belt change may be easy for you and I, because we have done it so many times, but it certainly is challenging for customers, who don't know how to do it. I will definitely agree with you that a Dyson clutch change is much harder then Kirby.

  • Are you just swapping the clutch or replacing the belts too? I recently had to do this on my mother's Dyson and it was incredibly difficult as I had to remove and strip the head, then remove the clutch, then dismantle the clutch to replace the snapped brushroll belt, then had to put it all back together again, all in all it was a few days tough and dirty work!!! I replaced the brushroll too at the same time as it was worn, but it still can't outperform my Kirbys... :P

  • We have been just replacing the entire clutch assembly when it goes bad. What a horribly designed system Dyson uses. You really do begin to appreciate the metal components on Kirby's after working on such cheap plastic parts as Dyson. Dyson roller brushes are a joke, by far the cheapest quality in the industry. If the belt breaks on a Kirby, you have to buy a $3 belt, if it breaks on a Dyson you have to buy a $40 clutch assembly. I actually started in this industry selling Kirby.

  • Yes, it is a very poor design, the theatre I volunteer for has one and I won't touch it incase it breaks, and me being the "vacuum man" in the family I'd probably end up fixing it too!!! I have seen clutches here in the UK for as little as £6, but that is probably a well-used ready to break clutch!!! And the ball bearings!!! They were a nightmare to hold in place while I put the casing back onto the clutch assembly!!! Dysons are far too over-engineered, there's too much to go wrong... :(

  • Well yea, if the person doesn't know how to do it, then it could be a bit difficult, but once you learn how, it's simple. Changing a belt on a pre-Generation Kirby is one of the easiest to change a belt on; it can be done in less than 60 seconds!

I think I commented on this video in the past, but I'll say it again: Great video, and excellent job. :D

  • God Bless You! You made it so easy - much better than the written directions that came with the vacuum. Thank you SO much for posting this!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been running a Kirby repair service for 9 years running. Never have I charged anybody a labor fee for the replacement of a belt. I agree, it is a bit tricky.

  • Probably not difficult after you replace the belt a few times, but compared to other models, the Kirby belt change is quite challenging. As you probably know it has to be done exactly right for it to be done correctly.

  • It IS easy! Whos this guy tryin to kid?

    He IS cute though.

  • I don't think it's hard to change a belt on a Kirby...it's actually pretty easy :D!
