  • He said that they thinned out some trash mobs in some instances, but they are there for a reason and they are definitely not planning on getting rid of them altogether in any case.

  • The big reason is pacing, since they're a space between bosses (makes bosses feel more epic), a break in the action (people need a break), and a way to gauge readiness (respawns too fast? you're just too slow). It also provides a way for raids to get loot, rep, or other stuff without boss killing. People complained about the lack of mobs before Razorgore in BWL, since there was no benefit to going into BWL until you could down him. Most raid instances let you get some epic drops from the trash.
